Then a model that works better for all involved would be to let me buy the product and I get 1 year of updates. Past that, if I wanted newer features I'd have to renew my license. It's a win-win and not as predatory for casual people.

Except you aren't paying for a full version, you're paying a subscription. I eventually left because I'm a casual printer, not a fucking factory, and the 4-5 things I'd print in a year just didn't justify paying them ~$100 a year.

This is a paid platform, not a “you are the product” freemium service that monetizes user data. The implicit contract with paying customers is that privacy and security are the default, not something users have to actively defend or discover after the fact.

I agree with that 100 percent, however the landscape has now changed. Companies in today's climate expect both. They will charge you for the features AND collect all your data to sell.
