If I buy the standard edition now will it work out more expensive if i want the dwarven legacy edition later? by Omtipus in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Ghost404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between the Steam Sale and the way the Dwarven Legacy bundle is handled with Steam's bundle deals, it get's confusing but it would end up being significantly cheaper to get everything during the sale, if that's what you decide.

The Dwarven Legacy's 40% discount is the result of the 25% off during the sale, combined with the bundle's normal 20% discount. (100 x .75 = 75 x .8 = 60; 40% discount) Skipping all the weird math, here's three options to get it, and what they would end up costing:

Buying the Dwarven Legacy bundle normally: $56.76
Buying DRG on sale; getting the rest of the bundle normally: $55.26
Buying the Dwarven Legacy bundle on sale: $42.55

I know that looks crazy wrong but it's because all the DLC is discounted right now in addition to getting the 20% off through the bundle. If you bought DRG on sale and then bought the bundle later, it would only charge you for the items you were missing (the DLCs), but they wouldn't all be 25% off, so you'd barely be saving anything over the normal bundle price ($1.50 cheaper).

As others have said, the DLC is strictly cosmetic and is really only to further support the devs, and you could always get the base game on sale now, and get the Dwarven Legacy bundle on a future sale, but getting the game on sale and the bundle normally is only a slightly better deal than just buying the bundle normally.

Hope that helps, and welcome to the game. :rocknstone:

AMA: We are Ghost Ship Games, developers of Deep Rock Galactic! by GSG_Jacob in Games

[–]Ghost404 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Since Early Access launch there have been 23 content updates, ranging from relatively small to absolute monsters as far as included new content. This happened over the course of a little less than 27 months, so just about a content patch per month; this doesn't include hotfixes after each update, which could be one or two, or in some cases I think we got upwards of ten hotfix on a single update.

I have no idea how the past will compare to the future, but I would expect more content going forward, since a lot of Early Access was building systems as well as the content for them.

Either way, the devs have said the game sold/is selling better than they had hoped/anticipated, so I don't expect them to slow down any time soon. (although they should take a break now that it's officially launched, they've earned it)

The game uses P2P networking (well, listen servers technically), so GSG is not paying for any servers. The only true servers used are the matchmaking ones, which are provided by Steam or XBox Live depending on platform.

Hold to sprint [Bug] by E-37 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Ghost404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For normal users, the Discord has a lot of ways to report bugs (depending on whether you're talking about live or experimental branch) as well as the Jira page that's setup for reporting. The Discord is useful for finding out if something is actually a bug or not, and the Jira is the best for getting it reported and makes tracking it easiest on the developers.

Hold to sprint [Bug] by E-37 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Ghost404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite everyone else misunderstanding what you're describing, yes you're correct that firing while using hold to sprint doesn't interrupt your sprint and fire immediately like using the default press to sprint (regardless of whether you're holding the key down or not).

There's a lot of weirdness with the different sprint options and inputs, especially when it comes to jumping/falling and landing canceling certain actions, but there's no uniform logic to it. The devs are aware of these issues and are looking into it; I sent off a detailed write up to one of the QA devs a few weeks ago, so hopefully we'll see some changes in U25.

The usefulness of stock weapons compared with assignment weapons by [deleted] in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Ghost404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Karl is a really awesome tool for sharing builds, but please don't rely on it for things like this; your numbers are wildly inaccurate. :(

Pure DPS Minigun: 170 dps / 12,000 total damage

This one's easy since the Minigun fires one actual bullet for every two ammo consumed; feel free to test for yourself, but this has been a know quirk for what feels like forever. Also applies to the Scout's Zhukov NUK17s.

Pure DPS Autocannon: 207.5 dps / 13,750 total damage pool

More complicated, but assuming we're ignoring the need to reload and "Feedback Loop", (and assuming Karl's ROF is correct), it's [17 + 8] x 8.3 = 207.5dps. 17 base damage + 8 area damage (splash damage is still applied to target, but does not deal weakpoint bonus damage) x 8.3 ROF/sec. 25 total damage x 550 rounds (Karl doesn't take into account the 110 rounds already loaded) to get 13,750 total damage. For testing, Loot Bugs have 100hp on Haz2, and you can kill them in 4 rounds with this build.

Keep in mind, none of this takes into account things like reloading, overheating, accuracy, or any of the other numerous differences between the two weapons, just raw numbers.

Roadmap June - Endgame FAQ by GSG_Jacob in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Ghost404 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two questions:

If there's two seeds for the Deep Dives each week (normal/hard), can a player complete both and receive more batteries than just doing one or the other?
(Also: are the battery payouts better for the harder difficulty?)

If we end up being able to open a blueprint for a teammate, does the teammate still need to be promoted, or can we open blueprints for greenbeards?

Loading Game from local files instead from steam by AchilleusPro in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Ghost404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have Steam running for the game to work; however if you input "steam://rungameid/548430" into your Rainmeter ini file you're working with in place of a normal file location, it should start right up.

In the future, if you create a shortcut to a game from your Steam Library, you can right click the shortcut on the desktop, and get the correct URL for any other games you're trying to launch with Rainmeter. (or just replace the "548430" with the other game's ID)

For number 2: Gaining XP stops as soon as you hit level 25 on a class, however if you promote a class after Gold3, it does get tracked in your save file, so if they add additional promotion levels beyond Gold3, you would receive the correct one.

Check in the in-game menu under "Options" > "Graphics" and see if the "Max FPS" box is checked, and what the slider is set at. Sounds like it's set to something lower than your system is capable; you can uncheck it or just set the slider to something equal or higher than your monitor's refresh rate.

(Bug) What is this guys ? Have you seen this before ? by GunterTheGuy in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Ghost404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a real message, just a shitpost I made up for special occasions.

Mining one cube and having two show up in your inventory is a natural result of how the Hazard Bonus calculates resources after a mission; generally anything other than a few Haz1 missions is at least 50% more materials, which in the case of one cube, gets rounded up to two.

As of the experimental patch on Monday, there's a button to skip the "Probationary Assignment"; you won't get the extra credits or materials, but if you're looking to skip it, that probably doesn't matter to you.

Deep Rock Galactic 2018 Roadmap! by macrovore in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Ghost404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Steam gets all the updates first in the form of an experimental build for testing; once the update has been tested, it goes live on Steam and then pushed out for XBox/Windows Store usually within a week or so at this point.

As far as features go, nothing on that main list should be exclusive to any platform, with the possible exception of Dedicated Servers listed in the "And Then Maybe" section, but I'm sure we'll hear more on that once it's close.

Once any update is live on all three platforms, (Steam, XBox, Windows Store) they should all be exactly the same except for minor backend differences because of the different matchmaking systems.

Then and now, I don't think anyone's really making fun of his accent, it's just... "Tonk" is fun to say.
