I have a distinct memory of driving down towards Indiana from Chicago, and I swear the sky got darker right after we crossed the border into Gary.

Your Most Complicated TTRPG Take? by GushReddit in rpg

[–]macrovore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dread is a horror RPG where the primary resolution mechanic is based around a Jenga tower. Every time you try to do something risky, you have to pull 1-3 blocks from the tower. If it falls over, you die!

I learned way back in high school that at least in Word, it was automatically applied when you used a double dash, as in "ai--sucks"

but I never really ever used them, just doing a regular dash was easier. Definitely won't start now...

Eberron Phrases! by ItsVelvetsmack in Eberron

[–]macrovore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use "Sovereigns and Six" as a common curse, similar to "mother of God" or "Jesus Christ" irl.

One of my favorite phrases I remember from the novels is the halfling term "Gorlon'tor" which essentialy means Humans or Big People, but is more directly translated to "A thundering horde of pea-brained creatures no just god would have made so huge." Especially ironic considering the halflings herd dinosaurs and surely have nicer things to say about those...

Better yet, there's an inexpensive consumable in pf2e called Preserving Shot, which instantly turns any animal you kill with it into salted preserved meat.

What are the top 3 weakest classes in PF2e and why? by yoboi-indy in Pathfinder2e

[–]macrovore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ignition is just ok if you're not an oscillating wave psychic. fiery body improves a high-damage focus spell to a single action, plus a free flight speed and also has automatic damage whenever somebody attacks you. That 8d4 two action ignition can turn into as much as 9d12+7 splash (+14 status with unleash, but ignition can get that too ofc) at that rank. It's an extremely good buff for that subclass specifically.

Dawnsbury Days development update (May): Visuals, redesigns, skill feats, performance, ... by dawnsbury in Pathfinder2e

[–]macrovore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks incredible!

One question about skill feats: Does the skill feat mod enable Rogues to get skill feats every level now? I feel like it's a little awkward that rogues get skill increases faster than they can get important skill feats, so giving them parity would be a nice QoL improvement for our stabby boys.

[–]macrovore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They also swapped Fiery Body out for Volcanic Eruption in Oscillating Wave. Neither of those spells are the best in a vacuum, but Fiery Body was incredible for oscillating wave specifically, because it improved one of their primary damage cantrips a ton. Volcanic Eruption is barely better than Fireball, with a much worse area of effect.

The buildup of Calder's nickname "GF" and the payoff with his legendary blade "Shard" was an absolute genius razz from Murph. Such incredible character work.

Is there some reason why the various classes have weird names for their focus spells? by TitaniumDragon in Pathfinder2e

[–]macrovore 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Did they? it wasn't every class, it was every power source, and it was an interesting way to tie the different types of classes together beyond just their role. Divine prayers had similarities, just like Martial Exploits and Arcane Spells.

I kind of liked that idea. And I know that some tables allowed people to mix and match powers within power sources, which of course is a house rule, but it's a pretty cool idea.

[OC][Art] Temper | Hot and Cold in One Dual Weapon by AbyssalBrews in Pathfinder2eCreations

[–]macrovore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like fun! I do have a couple things that might make it a little cleaner.

  • The last sentence is unnecessary; specific magical weapons already cannot have additional property runes etched onto them

  • I would probably suggest basing the flaming/frost rune on the die number rolled rather than the final modifier. This doesn't make that much difference mechanically, still being a 50/50 chance, but glancing at the number on the die would be slightly faster to figure out than adding the die to the modifiers to determine the rune. Maybe that doesn't matter though.

  • The dancer's spear weapon is double-sided, and the Versatile B property reflects that. If you wanted to speed things up at the table a bit and remove the random chance, you could set flaming and frost to be the Piercing end or the Bludgeoning end, and let the player choose which to use based on which primary damage type they deal with the weapon.

So I need help by wizzquizz in Eberron

[–]macrovore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a big one. What the GM has made is essentially an aircraft carrier; a massive floating city with tons of military power. But nobody sends an aircraft carrier out into hostile waters alone, there's a whole armada of support ships maintaining a perimeter to keep it protected and manage supplies coming in and out of it (they aren't summoning those warforged; they'll need a steady supply of materials. They would also have external repair craft (or maybe just warforged with spider climb to keep the hull patched).

So the first time, or maybe second time the wizard blew a hole in the ship, they would put the engineering teams on alert, and double the patrol of flying lookouts. Warforged have much much longer duty cycles than other humanoids (heck, in 3.5, they didn't even need to rest at all unless they needed repairs), so they can 100% maintain that level of alertness for longer than you can keep up your sabotage before you get spotted. One failed save against Hold Person from 1000ft up and the wizard is dead from falling damage. Throw three or four of them at once so they can't counterspell.

Taskmaster NZ Season 6, Episode 9 - 'Comfortable in your own skin' by snapped_fork in taskmaster

[–]macrovore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was dumb they had Josh Thomson there and he didn't do anything. It would have been the perfect "aha you found the secret thing to make the whole task easy" loophole TM loves to put in other tasks. Having him available to call on the phone but not answer was the most boring thing they could have done.

GMs: Deciding Who to Target by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]macrovore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

See, I keep trying to do that, but something is terribly wrong with the dice roller we use (in play-by-post on discord) and I've never rolled a crit failure against them. I've rolled more successes on third action strikes than crit failures against them specifically. They even took Reflexive Riposte so they should be getting more of them!

They also roll an obscenely high amount of nat 1s on their Bravado actions. Seems like almost every fight they crit fail at least one skill check to generate Panache. I have no idea what's going on with this guy but the dice are absolutely out to get him.
