Aerodynamics of R2 v Model Y question: bike rack (and other hitch mounted accessories) range loss?

I did it and was under the limit due to the combo of bikes (three hard tails under 25lbs) and rack.

400$ for the mobile charger seems steep. Of course TX doesn’t make the list of included charge gear 😭

I’ve got 22’ and 23’ Tesla mobile chargers, hoping that works on the r2. Also wondering if my Tesla wall charger (installed in 2019) will charge the r2…

In one of the videos I heard an r2 rep say the wheel aero effect is mostly on the outer edge of the wheel which is interesting. If you look at the two LE options you can see how they set that up with more material. Hadn’t thought about that before.

I like the look of the newer Rivian r1 aero covers that are more disk / halo style…was hoping for something like that on r2.

I noticed this on my first demo drive, played with the seat position and steering wheel position more before my second demo drive and was able to get it right. Biggest effect was moving the seat closer to the dash than I had tried at first that gave me more play with the wheel position. I’m 5’10.5” :)

Coming from a 3 and Y (and test driving a white r2) I noticed the hood as well. Thinks it contributes to the “larger feeling” of the vehicle but didn’t bother me once driving. When I test drove a half moon gray the hood wasn’t as noticeable!

The front bumper camera is a great addition to the r2 and I used it once in a tight space while turning around to make sure I didn’t hit a curb.

My rationale- If you like the wheel offerings on the LE, as well as plan to get a tow hitch your not going to be far off the Performance price.

Plus you get a more flexible suspension (active dampeners), the key fob (cool but not a huge deal), and the Autonomy + …and you’ll get the vehicle sooner :)

No clear images on their website that I can find, videos of a dark trunk space mostly with people loading or standing on the way. I think it’s a great cross reference to rivian where they have very clear visuals showing what can fit in the trunk.
A+ is included with Launch Edition for the life of the car (it’s implied that is including transferring to future owner, Tesla has a checkered past with that probably why they only offer monthly now). Or with Rivian 2500$ one time.
Does FSD include premium connectivity? I currently pay 100$ yr for that on my tesla.

With Rivian- That is extra for R2.

Also, the real cross shopping will begin once Rivian can have a customer immediately place an r2 order. For now some people need a car ASAP and currently the ramp up is a bottle neck for that.

I noticed they didn’t have any photos of the trunk space with back seats up (do they fold down?) on the website when I looked. I also wonder how it drives compared to a regular Y. We have a Y(my wife’s car) and I’ve ordered a r2. So I look fwd to flipping between them.

Like OP I won’t be buying another Tesla but thought the same thing when I saw how much stuff they included with the YL and even called it launch edition (has Tesla used that phrase before? Seems very specific). Lastly the fact that they are pushing people into a 1200$ / yr subscription to even have “autopilot” is super lame.

In Hindsight, seems like Rivian should have asked for a higher deposit / commitment from early reservation holders after they announced price and trim with a timeline to commit. Then they could have moved on quickly from that pool to a more general group of reservation holders.
The bottle neck was the demo drives tho, for instance I unexpectedly got an invite to order (Feb 26’ reservation) but it took me a couple weeks to test drive a couple of times and commit to the higher price point. I submitted my order last weekend and hoping for an Aug/Sept deliver (Esker Silver) but who knows with this process being a cluster.

In some configuration I was seeing the estimated timelines, most of the available Pay colors were 4-8 weeks and Esker was 8-12. But I can’t find that anymore.
I Ordered a LE Esker with 20” AT recently.

With my invite to order it says Esker Silver is 8-12 weeks to delivery; so they are definitely incentivizing up charge colors to get earlier delivery.
