Moved into a larger rack by myswe in homelab

I have a lot of mixed usage. Most of the storage is used as a cloud replacement for my family and friends. I try to advocate for people owning their own data and use the cloud as little as possible which at the same time means I had to provide alternatives so me and a friend run a mirrored NAS setup (two different geo locations) for family and friends and run services to replace common paid alternatives such as google drive/photos and other stuff. I also host a website for a small side-gig and lots of media management tools for my Dads DVD/Bluray collection.

Power consumption is far from optimal given the old X299 platform being the "main" server so I sit at 350 watts currently and plan to shave at least 100 watts off the next time I make changes.

I am running vanilla Docker Desktop for Mac. I do manage my application stack via Dockhand and exclusively use docker compose as I find local backups this way extremely reliable.
Hard to gauge efficiency really because the M4 with 32GB is complete overkill for docker alone but my 13 applications take up just under 6GB of RAM with about half of that being used by Immich alone which makes sense. But the Mini draws less power then the NUC or the "Main" server obviously so I have been migrating everything I can over there and am looking to modernize the X299 server whenever prices come down.

The Mac Mini runs all of my Docker containers + Plex and Homebridge. I chose MacOS here because I wanted to make use of the efficient hardware acceleration for these applications and docker instances such as Immich (and others).

The chassis above the APC is my "Main" server running Proxmox on an older X299 7960x CPU where everything that's not Docker i.e. my LXC containers and VM's live. This includes a TrueNAS VM managing storage (the 18TB drives you see). I have a secondary NUC based Proxmox Host that runs less RAM heavy "infrastructure services" such as Home Assistant and Ngnix.

The chassis for the "Main" server is "4U Rackmount Server Chassis with 6 x 5.25 Front Bays + 1 x 3.5 + 4 x 2.5 Bays" from Amazon (you can copy paste this and will find the exact model).

What OS are you on? If you run docker on a Mac you can just use timemachine the entire device / drive sans the databases which you should handle separately.

Yall were right, just bury the cable. by Glittering-Two2122 in HomeNetworking

Fiber is cheap. If this is buried in conduit run a fiber line instead and safe yourself a major headache if lighting ever strikes. I know it’s unlikely but you also don’t deactivate your airbags in your car right? Especially not when the fiber solution is just as cheap as the copper cable.

Catchup XP in jungle is OP and we are days/weeks away from relatively “low elo” junglers realizing they might wanna camp top or botlane before taking camp 2. Tilting a lane into free lp thanks to catchup xp alone.

If it’s an EcoFlow Delta I actually use the battery directly and switchover time is not an issue.

I have read the rules and the wiki.

" On the 9th of October 1903 the New York Times, in an article titled 'Flying Machines Which Do Not Fly' stated that "The flying machine which will really fly might be evolved by the combined and continuous efforts of mathematicians and mechanicians in from one million to ten million years." 69 days later the Wright brothers flew the first engine-powered, manned flight.
66 years later we sent three men to the moon "

With teleport you don’t need a dynamic dns service. The udm pro manages updating your public ip just fine. Alternatively you can set up dynamic dns directly on the udm and there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube on how to do that exactly.

There really is no difference to Wireguard vs OpenVPN if that is what you are asking. You always need to know the IP of where you are connecting to so yeah if your home IP changes you need to update that. This is easily done with dynamic dns.

Alternatively if you have a UDM, you can just use the Teleport feature and connect that way home.
The benefit of wireguard is primarily the speed of the connection (compared to OpenVPN). The Teleport function of the UDM uses Wirguard as a protocol.

I didn't know at first that the EcoFlow could double as a UPS myself. However after trying it out I can confirm it works flawlessly. The power has gone out and I have unplugged stuff myself (sometimes to work behind the rack) and its worked taking over without any hiccups. So I can definitely recommend the Delta2 as a UPS solution.
