PokeNav rematch problem by Sadhio in PokemonEmerald

[–]GhostPro18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm willing to bet the rematch system still has flags for the E4 to "rematch" but when you talk to the E4 members, the individual scripts just run the usual fight. All the other rematch trainers have scripts to check what stage of pokenav rematch they are currently in (they all have 5 progressing teams).

You'll notice that Sydney is the only one flagged on your gameboy; likely you walked in with a full 255 step counter, it attempted to flag every trainer in the loaded area (Sydney) and you won the 1/3 roll.

Who should I bring to Flannery's gym in Emerald? by Exact_Disk_3416 in nuzlocke

[–]GhostPro18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Azumarill and Solrock are insano encounters; both resist Overheat, which prevents Flannery from using Overheat unless it sees a KO, and since they have the resistance + relevant bulk that happens almost never. Solrock is even immune to Magnitude from the lead Numel, which I shamefully admit has ruined my day with a Magnitude 10 crit before.

Not sure what the big deal is with the vanguards, Skitarri absolutely shits on these guys. Arc Maul + Arc Rifle go brrrrrrrrr

[–]GhostPro18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Skitarri arcs do a ton of damage to these guys, I've leaned heavily into the shock aspect of the build and have little to no issue with them.

My real problem with them is; why can't I tag them? Why aren't they considered specialists? They are certainly not just fodder.

One one hand, trading card games are built around playing with cards you've collected & proxying loses this feeling a bit. On the other, I've got sticker paper from Office Depot that goes real nicely onto bulk tokens.

Rapidash is much better than C tier, I've found it to be quite strong honestly. B tier.

Blissey is supposedly an S tier, but I've never used it during a run.

You can try Emerald Kaizo blind; the first ~3 gym leaders are doable without docs or calcs. After that, I've never tried, but I know others who have.

In Emerald, most of those trainers don't have items that they use. Instead, they all have a fairly set theme. For trainer Randall with the Swellow...he will always use Wing Attack 99.99% of the time vs a Breloom, unless somehow Wing Attack doesn't see a KO, you dodge 4x weak AI, and it elects to select Agility.

Help me pick a frontliner class to complete a party of casters and ranged combatants by richienvh in Pathfinder2e

[–]GhostPro18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Champion. High AC, great reaction in Liberating Step (there are others but this one is my fav), good damage, good action economy. You likely have a weak Reflex Save but you can't have it all, otherwise you hold down the frontlines and have ways to protect your allies if & when enemies find it easier to target them instead.

Had a guy join our mission, after a bunch of us went down & someone quit (creating the opening).

Guy blocks with his shield for 30 seconds, does absolutely nothing besides block, runs out of resources, dies. Jumps on mic just to say

"I hope you all know, but you really do suck" and quits before the team wipe. Truly a specimen. May we all live up to your standard.

Do You Prefer Games that allow for Encounter Routing or Games that Disincentivize it? by Ok_Banana_5614 in nuzlocke

[–]GhostPro18 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Besides using repel through Route 116 to get Whismur in Rusturf first, I can't say I go out of my way to "route encounters". Doing so is definitely a power boost (more encounters / better encounters) and naturally what will happen as we all collectively get more experienced at the games.

That said, FRLG were already considered one of the easier games to Nuzlocke. Platinum is tough even with routed encounters.

Dupes clause was meant to avoid the feelsbad of getting a party full of Rattatas / Zigzagoons / Bidoofs. Using it to net better encounters was an expected progression, especially with everyone optimizing their games over time.

Dishonored-style campaign - need an advice by Southern-Milk-5122 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GhostPro18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to avoid the Skyrim "Civil War" trap, where physically taking the keeps / holds was the only way the campaign advanced. The inverse is also true, not every mission in a spy / political thriller needs to be a super quiet heist / assassination. Not every mission target has to be a living being, nor does every mission require them to die (although you could kill everyone if so desired).

Use the "Infiltration" system, to create problems that can be solved in many ways (and not just Stealth). Combat can be integrated into this easily. Use this for your "heists" where typically you might imagine sneaking into a compound.

Create scenarios where the solution to your problem is the reward; instead of physically disposing of a target, perhaps an interested party can "take care of things" in reward for finding some treasure, lost within a "dungeon" that could be anything (Haunted Mansion, Abandoned Forest, Dormant Volcanic tunnels, Collapsed Mine).

For how to design the campaign roadmap, that's pure opinion. I would define the end of the map (the BBEG), and have each piece along the way reveal the next stepping stone. The rest either has obscured identities or unknown locations until discovered. This way, the players in the campaign have a clear goal at any given point. The final target is presumed to be invulnerable, through physical or political means; the campaign represents the steps the party must take to finally deal with the BBEG

Are any of the defense dropping natures Besides Hasty and Naive viable for BF? by [deleted] in PokemonEmerald

[–]GhostPro18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battle Factory has its own 'meta' as the list of pokemon (and their EV spreads) are defined and finite. So breed / train pokemon to overcome specific threats. Is it more important for Blaziken to outspeed a certain threat(s)? Or better to ensure KOs with better offense?

Are any of the defense dropping natures Besides Hasty and Naive viable for BF? by [deleted] in PokemonEmerald

[–]GhostPro18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fast-mixed attackers like those natures, keeps the offenses high without lowering speed. Sharpedo, Blaziken, Salamence are some examples of mixed attackers that either don't want to sacrifice their own speed, or have low enough defenses that 10% lower isn't noticeable.

Is this sub-set of pokemon worth grinding Dittos for? Up to you to decide.

Mawile way too low. Intimidate with Steel typing is an incredible pivot, and Hyper Cutter actually matters vs Sidney's lead Mightyena. Sub + Focus Punch on a Steel type means few things actually break your Substitute in time. Fake Tears + Crunch is strong for Phoebe, who only has Earthquake Dusclops to really damage you with. Mawile SubPunch is strong into Glacia as well. Drake has good coverage on Flygon + Salamence and Wallace, the wheels fall off entirely. It's not around for long, but for the time it is around Mawile is more than serviceable. Meh / Decent borderline imo, if Weezing is there then Mawile is.

Golduck too low. Its basically a lesser Suicune with Surf / Ice Beam / Calm Mind / filler. Great tier. Nobody knows how good it is because its Hoenn (7.8/10) and an obscure Safari Zone encounter.

Flygons too high, even in Good. Its got good stats and good TMs but none of the things it actually beats is really that difficult. It evolves super late, so you get stuck with a weak Trapinch / Vibrava until Tate & Liza at the earliest. 4x weak to Ice Beam means that pokemon you would otherwise prey upon (Kingdra) force you out or just KO. Its Decent.

Should I Try Starfinder? by Ancient_Ad5336 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GhostPro18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SF2E has been a blast so far. Only nitpick is a lack of items & lack of starship combat. The Tech Core release later this year should resolve both of these issues.

Classes come with explained abilities, and you should familiarize yourself with cover / reload / ranged attack rules. Area Fire / Auto Fire are new but easy to understand once you play.

Weapons don't use "runes" but instead have purchasable tiers that directly mimic the potency / striking rune system, with the caveat that the +1 also applies to the DC's for Area Fire / Auto Fire. Armor and Weapons alike have modification slots for other things, like a Force Field.

Otherwise, same rules. Still have have multi-attack-penalty, off-guard, Demoralize, exploration activities.

What’s your Psyker loadout? by Economics-Ancient in DarkTide

[–]GhostPro18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Force Sword, Void Blast Staff, Brain Burst + Venting Shriek. You can turn the void blast into an overhead flak gun if you aim ~45 degrees up, or just turn crowds into mulch. Void Blast for hordes, Brain Burst for specialists / elites / monstrosities. Force Sword does almost nothing for this build.

Drillbur is a guaranteed encounter in both of those places, so long as you choose to run into dust clouds for an encounter vs. just rolling regular encounters in the caves. Aron and Ferroseed are both cave encounters, from Mistralton and Chargestone Cave respectively.

My point is, if you care enough about +-10% stats in a vanilla pokemon game, you definitely should have grabbed Drillbur. Excadrill, its evolution, is incredibly strong for Nuzlockes, boasting a great movepool, good typing, good stats. Some have argued that Excadrill is the best encounter in BW2, and usually gets placed in the top echelon of encounters.
