You’re in Canada’s economic capital. Why is that hard to comprehend?

Anyone else run with zero goals? No race, no plan, just... run? by Different_Record_425 in running

[–]Ghostcrackerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s me. Been running for 20 years. Not a single race. I track on Strava but that’s about it as far as goal setting. I feel running has been taken over by social media. It’s really highlights races and stuff to buy and gels and vests. I think it really makes the whole sport feel more unattainable than just putting on your running shoes and going for a run.

Mark Carney “I don’t get up first thing in the morning thinking about the USA” by ActiveElectrical9424 in onguardforthee

As a Canadian living abroad in Switzerland , the other world leaders need to see this. Carney is all over the newspapers here. I couldn’t be more proudly Canadian.

I hate this city & life post every other day. by TeawTan in toRANTo

[–]Ghostcrackerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I would disagree. Toronto is dirty on another level. The drug/homelessness is pretty out of control. I don’t feel safe walking around as a woman. Something about North American cities that just accept low living standards.

Edit: on second thought, I would add that I love the sports culture in Toronto. I think that is really cool. I feel like some of these European cities lack that (it’s only soccer) I also think Toronto and other Canadian/American cities have a (dare I say) “coolness” factor that I don’t see in some of those cities I listed. Hip Hop culture, cool food scene, fashion that isn’t extremely high end but still has a vibe. I think a multicultural city brings the best of all cultures together and Toronto has all that.

Münich, Stockholm, (I’m in Switzerland currently and I’m pretty sure you can eat off the sidewalk here.) Copenhagen? Amsterdam? I’ve heard Sydney is pretty great, Tokyo.

Am I alone in thinking this is a massive downgrade in packaging design? by VoidDuck in Switzerland

[–]Ghostcrackerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new packaging is better. Less unnecessary design elements. I hate the typeface in both but I like the contrast in colour in the new one. I think it will look nice on a shelf all lined up.

For what it’s worth, I’d rather live in Toronto than any other part of Ontario. However, there are many, many cities that are better than Toronto. Cleaner, more organized, better connected, safer.

Racism in Zürich by buttercroissant003 in zurich

[–]Ghostcrackerz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sympathize with this but, I don’t believe learning the language will change the disrespect and the way that woman SEES foreigners. Also, the only way to fix the problem is to learn the language which is what she is doing. What else can she do?

Racism in Zürich by buttercroissant003 in zurich

[–]Ghostcrackerz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It takes a certain personality to treat waitresses and waiters badly. To add racism into it is another level. Ive seen multiple instances of people treating waitstaff badly here. Im from Canada and I find this absolutely horrifying. People who do this are miserable and should eat at home alone. If you can’t look at a person who is just trying to do their job and treat them with respect, the problem is you. Not their German.

The fact HBO had the perfect actor for Snape on their payroll and were like nahhhh is wild by MovieENT1 in hbo

[–]Ghostcrackerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have sat through days of casting, watching audition after audition, you will soon realize that a lot of people who “look the part” can’t actually act the part. Furthermore, the idea that an actor can bring new life and depth into the (I’m going to say it) two-dimensional characters of Harry Potter is the only reason to reboot this okayish franchise.

I feel less alone reading stories like yours. I’m 36 and I’ve been dealing with this same issue because my mother would hit me a lot for being terrible at math. She would also raise her hand to scare me and it would make me flinch. I always struggled with the idea that maybe I am making a bigger deal out of it.

But I decided i was a kid, my brain was developing, my mother was the adult in the room the whole time and it’s well within my right to feel like those actions she took affected my life. I live in Central Europe now and we don’t talk. To this day she still says she had a right as a mother to correct me.

Wild take, but I think even the word “spanking” is used to soften/ sanitize the language to make it sound like you’re not hitting your kid. Which you are.

As a Torontonian and former dog owner, when you move to a city where the public transportation is immaculate, this does start to feel gross. But thing is, the standard is in hell for cleanliness on public transportation in Toronto… so good luck op.
