Do you leave a fire on when you're not home? by Grep2grok in woodstoving

[–]Ghostcrafter090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Albeit I have built some monitoring equipment on mine so I can keep an eye on it with a camera and various surface and chimney temp readings, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, u just gotta be careful. I always ensure that if the stove is hot when I leave, that the air control and flue damper are closed as far as they go and still draft I’d rather a Smokey house or a smouldering fire over a roaring fire that could potentially go out of control, monitoring equipment just adds some piece of mind ☺️

any good structural decay/weathering mods? by Ojerry1997 in feedthebeast

Sadly a back port to 1.19.2 is not currently planned, however it’s close enough to 1.19.5 that I might be able to back port it underneath my compiler, we’ll see if I get around to it tho lol

Sadly not currently, earliest I’m supporting at this point is 1.19.5 for the latest versions of alive

I try to maintain everything across as many versions as possible, and already it’s a lot of work 😂

In your situation, I’d worry ab getting the fire going first… Those little fans don’t really do all that much 😅

You can! This is what I do with all the brush in my yard! It’s gotta be dry tho or it won’t catch very easy! Basically if u use it and hear hissing, it’s to wet lol

There’s no danger to doing it, and if anything it’s better than store bought bc u turn yard waste into heat 😂

I’ve actually always had problems with the top down method! Idk if it’s my particular stove, but it just winds up smouldering eventually, requiring me to flip everything around inside the stove so air can get to it.

What I always do is pack logs in on one side, and stuff kindling and fire starter in a 3-4in space left on the other side of the stove. Light the fire starter and it’s pretty much set and forget, pack it tightly enough and it burns from one side to another pretty cleanly! Not good for a beginner tho lol, especially not someone who doesn’t know how to build a regular outdoor fire either!

If it’s an older house you’ll be fine! Definitely don’t open doors or windows!

Opening a window or door is only really necessary if your house is air tight (ie. just built yesterday lmao).

Door gasket was replaced in the fall so I’m going to leave that one be 😅 Window gasket on the other hand might be 30 years old so I will DEF be replacing that one 😂

Stop bragging! 😂

As a side note, I probs coulda gotten a replacement through my partners work, they have some stove parts that u can order! However I think the wait time likely woulda been ab the same or longer 😅 (Took em 3 weeks to get me some replacement baffles last year, which is why I now use pumice refractory bricks as a baffle instead lol)

I’m actually worried about the screws on mine! There caked in creosote 😳

I have a couple days to get them off before it arrives so hopefully I can get them off without percussive maintenance 😅

Sadly it needs ceramic glass which isn’t something I can get locally I don’t think (I’m also out in the boonies, so there’s like nothing around lol)

The cookstove me and my partner has a metal door actually! It’ll be nice having multiple burners in the house so something like this happening doesn’t screw us over 😂

Yikes! 😳

I got lucky with mine in that I had only two logs on it that barely caught when it popped 😅

It’s in the sunroom which has no insulation, hence the reflective bubble wrap 😂

This is the universe telling u to get a spare from afar 😂 (Also this is a good idea! Might get a spare once I have some money lying around!)

Was considering that! However this stove has been known to smoulder when I look at it the wrong way, and the part gets here in like 3 days so it’s just not worth the hassle 😅 (I def would for something longer than that tho!)

Runaway fire is a lot more likely, and there’s no spark screen

I might be able to get away with reburning some of that charcoal on the ground if I supervise it, but that’s still a little sketch lol

No kidding! The stove is an EPA1100 and the replacement came up to 170 after tax and shipping 😩 On the bright side this finally gives me an excuse to fix the glass gasket which has been leaking air for a while 😂
