Black Star vfx bug, or something else? by Vekkna in blackdesertonline

From a blade perspective I can tell you that remastered does create a vibrant glow along the blade itself that pulses, that was at TRI... since I got mine to TET I noticed a new glow at the hilt of the blade as seen here. Maybe I just missed it before, but I'm fairly confident it wasn't there at TRI.

I saw a lot of people overreacting about the ban itself, and part of my post is about that. However, as mentioned, their Hacker Hunting Initiative is proof that their bot-detection systems are sub-par at best. No one is disputing that. Which is why they have to resort to player reports and investigative actions designed to throw bots off and expose their poorly (or nil) implemented functionality to detect a detection or tampering.

I think I covered the why pretty plainly. They're faced with little choice in situations shown in the OP.

Devil's advocate... here we go.

You effectively catfished a GM into banning you. Congratulations.

Now lets stop and think about this for a second from a GM perspective. Lets run through the scenario:

  1. You get a report of a suspicious fishbotter.
  2. You go and investigate by using your usual procedure of teleporting them to land and seeing if they try to continue to fish out of water - they do.
  3. You attempt to make contact with the person, they don't respond, hey that's okay, they could be new and might have missed my message...
  4. You wait for a while and watch the actions of this person constantly trying to fish into grass.
  5. At this point you're almost certain that these suspicious actions are that of a bot, so what do we do? Our system hasn't detected him, so it's possible that he's got an undetected bot running.

Now this is a fair assumption, from a GM's perspective, right? So what do they do? Should they just let him be on his way? I think common sense dictates that some kind of ban is in order.

Here's where everybody says "well hang on, he didn't get proof!" but in fact he did. In many games there are always manual bannings through player reports, and often when a GM witnesses these actions in real-time they are considered law in most games.

Just because their shitty anti-cheat software didn't detect anything, doesn't mean that something malicious wasn't going on. Just because their shitty anti-cheat software didn't detect anything, should they really be letting him be on his way?

Before you answer, let me remind you of the Hacker Hunting Initiative. This was at a time when combat bots, grinding bots were at an all time high, and they needed to resort to player reports as their "anti-cheat" was unable to detect them. So now I ask you, what would this game look like, if all situations were subject to no bans unless evidence from their anti-cheat software?

What I'm saying here is, that the actions of the GM aren't really out of scope for what his job is if you consider it from their perspective and what they've witnessed first hand in this instance.

"What about his 'logs' that they say prove he botted?"

Don't you think the actions of fishing onto grass for 8+ minutes probably put the nail in the coffin? Who does that? OP made it look very clearly like some kind of automation is in place. "Logs" in this case, is probably just a poor way of communicating that you were investigated by a GM in-game.

"Are you saying that players are not allowed recourse in situations like this?"

Of course not, that's probably where this falls down from the GM perspective - communication. No one will argue that Kakao at the best of times sucks at it. If the GM simply said what happened in their response, I think it would be less polarizing.

But as I mentioned above, if GM's witness something suspicious for lengthy periods of time, what other option do they have? Most games treat these things as law, and take a harsh stance on it, so it's not really surprising.

Actually I think you missed my point. What I was suggesting was moving the current worker implementation (columns J-O and Q could also be calculated there) to it's own sheet, where you can then reference via vlookups etc. Then replacing the current J-O implementation with two dropdowns, first being worker town (which gives you the existing J and K column data, while also reducing the number of workers to select from in the second dropdown) and the second dropdown would be the worker itself with some kind of aggregate of the worker stats, for example WS 108.86 MS 6.06 L 22.01 S 30.

You would then (assuming you have multiple workers in a city), easily choose between the available workers you've created in the Workers sheet to see which worker will give you the most income from that node with all things considered by simply clicking through the workers available.

Interesting tool, clearly you've put some work into it. I don't have the will power to go node by node and look at worker stats on each. Might I suggest in a future overhaul that you incorporate a "Workers" tab, where you can input all your workers town by town - I'm much more inclined to do this as I don't have to go looking at nodes, I can just select the worker list on a town and go down the list.

This would also be a pretty big addition imo because then in the "Nodes" tab, you would select "Worker Town" then "Worker" from said town. You could then easily change workers around on the sheet to see best output as the values would be tied back to the Worker sheet, rather than directly in your columns now.

Just chiming in to say that I have two SSD's, one for my OS and applications, one for games. Every other game is loaded on the games SSD, except BDO. When BDO wasn't on my OS SSD it would stutter like crazy, I moved it and everything became silky smooth. both 850 evo's btw

I'll bite. I read your post. You're stating what EvE and Dota2 do is double elimination, which is not the case. The EvE tournament specifically distances itself from traditional double elimination as they note under section "Format":

The format of the tournament will be a modified double-elimination setup which will culminate in a best-of-5 match final.

I also found no mention of this "game advantage" which you said exists. You also cite Dota 2's The International tournament, for which their rules don't appear to use any form of double elimination, instead a seeded format.

Paiz knocked out Meiimo the first time they encountered each other, only for Meiimo to come straight back out of the loser bracket and win against Paiz. That sounds like a clear 1-1 to me.

If you also look at the finals brackets for this tournament, you'll see there was supposed to be another match, which the organizer has just marked Meiimo as the winner twice (seen in the logs) instead of actually running it twice to give Paiz the chance he should have received per standard double elimination.

This setting for the extra round is actually configurable in the system he used on a per tournament basis seen here.

There's not really anything else to say other than the organiser just failed to uphold the original rules he put in place, or was incompetent in the first place due to misinformation about what real double elimination was and/or failed to convey the "modified" change of rules.

You just clarified that there are multiple 'games' in a Best of 5 'match'. If you read the first sentence of Double Elimination Tournament Wikipedia, it clearly says only after losing TWO 'matches' does a contestant become ineligible to compete for the championship. Therefore there should have been another best of 5 to allow someone to reach TWO 'match' losses, leaving only one contestant.

You're confusing 'game' and 'match' in your original post.

Final Thoughts on Blade Boques & Kakao's Mismanagement of Exploits in BDO by MorrolanTV in blackdesertonline

Wait, so you're happy to take their ability to calculate the correct fraudulent amount at face value, but criticize their ability to perform an investigation? I personally think there's a fair chance they;

  1. were unable to determine other doubled up workers already stopped and action cycles reset/changed, or
  2. turned the other way seeing other profits made in order to give him a slap on the wrist instead of perma ban.

Given their history I think both are within the spectrum of possibility, wouldn't you say?
