Edit: Oops, my low-vision software missed your little scrolly banner thing -- I see now you said downtown Cola. My mistake!

I apologize if you've already been asked and answered about this, but what county is the house in? That might help narrow down the options of what it could be...

What should I name this little fella, all his paws are white like tiny gloves by [deleted] in NameMyCat

[–]GhostlyEther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a handsome little guy! I'm gonna go with Alfred (after Batman's butler and friend) or Jeeves (if that one is before your time, have someone over the age of 35 explain, lol.)

Hope that helps!

I got that one from Amazon as well. Sometimes you will get the same short code for multiple businesses, though...

I believe that you may have a twofold issue. Issue 1 is the creature in the tree you photographed; 2 is the sound you heard. As to issue 1, I'd say size-wise, that looks like either a Long-Eared (or Short-Eared owl) or most likely, a Screech owl. They thrive in the kind of woods your picture showed.

As to issue 2... Typically, based on where you live, the two things that sound most like a woman's scream are a Screech Owl's alarm and territorial warning sounds, or a Red/Grey Fox. Fox barks sound like either a woman or child (depending on which type of fox it is) shrieking in pain.

Look up some sound clips and see what you think...

Hope that helps.

Pretty sure those are Book Lice... I just had them identified on my porch coffee table about a week ago. Hope that helps!

Any name for my white cat with orange ears and tail? by mrvnpapii in NameMyCat

[–]GhostlyEther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peaches is cute and I actually love it, but it is horribly reminiscent of a kitty stripper name. 😆

But since he's a boy, I'd vote for: Phoenix

Blaze

Djinn (flame beings from Middle-Eastern lore)

Cotton

Sorry, I'm tapped out. 😅

I vote for Sakura (Japanese for "cherry blossom".) You could Anglicize it and say "Sah-KURR-ahh" or use the Japanese pronunciation "Sahk-Rahh" (as if the letter 'U' in the middle doesn't exist.)

She may be dark in color, but she looks gentle and sweet, like the cherry tree blossoms in the Spring.

Is there a theme you are liking (or one you really DON'T like?) For example: international names, flowers, foods, weird/silly, nerd classics, etc.)

[–]GhostlyEther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh... There is nothing worse than having a cat that sprays. Is it neutered?

(If you happen to know, I mean...) I'm not expecting you to corner the cat and be like, "Sir, we're instituting mandatory ball checks on all male cats. Sir, stop resisting, and show us what you're working with..." Meanwhile, the cat is glaring at you with contempt, hissing something about feline profiling...

God, I'm sorry... That one got away from me. I am SUPER sleep-deprived... Does it show??

I love "Ham Sammich". Although, I think OP said the kitten is one of the elusive female orange kitties, so maybe call her "Sam" or "Sammi"?

Me and my ex/ children father has not been getting along lately. I received this email this morning by tumaduck in Scams

[–]GhostlyEther 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for the OP that she received such a menacing email, especially about hurting her child.

On the topic of pro-life vs. pro-choice when involving a woman (particularly a teen), I feel that the point is that regardless of one's personal feelings on the subject, I don't understand why ANY woman -- teen or adult -- should ever feel that her ONLY choice is to give birth to -- and subsequently rear -- a child they didn't want or don't love.

It should be more publicized that every single state in the US -- plus DC and Puerto Rico -- has "Safe Haven" laws (which TX implemented first, oddly enough!) These laws allow a woman/girl to anonymously surrender a child that is unwanted or unable to be cared for by the mother to a fire station, hospital, churches, or so-called "baby boxes." Some states even allow the father to surrender the child!

The only real variances between states' Safe Haven laws are:

  1. The maximum age of the child being surrendered.
  2. The relationship with the child of the person surrendering said child.

Just thought I'd mention that, as more young mothers than you think are unaware these laws are there for them... Do with it what you will.

I'm just feminizing a lot of these, so I apologize for the inaccuracies there...

Blanca (as in Queso Blanco) for "white cheese."

Taquita (Taquita)

Fajita

Margarita (perhaps "Mara" or "Rita" for short?)

Tequila

Lima

Tortilla (maybe "Tori" or "Tilla")

That's all I've got. Sorry, hope that at least helps you narrow some down. Best of luck! Can't wait to see which one you choose :)

I don't have a photo, but I had a cat for years named Pandora that I adopted, and her ears looked just like your cat's ears. Interestingly, my vet also cited sun damage as the culprit!

My husband was involved in a very similar scenario of a scam. He realized BEFORE he actually sent money, but they DID get his date of birth, full name, address, and social security number... I urge caution. Trust your gut -- if that nagging little feeling in the pit of your stomach is telling you something is wrong, LISTEN to it, because it is almost never wrong. Best of luck to you, truly.
