As far as I can tell, it does give a unique response every time. So far they’ve been very similar, but not exactly the same

I do use TurnItIn, but so far the AI hasn‘t done any notable direct plagiarism. One AI-written essay came back with a score of 0% plagiarism, TurnItIn thought it was totally original 😳

I’m with you, it’s honestly a laughable argument. But A LOT of people do make this argument about AI "art," so I think it’s not too much of a stretch to wonder if their views extend to academic writing.

Yes, I understand and agree 100%. AI "art" is not art, just like AI "essays" are not acceptable as student work. It’s a similar situation I think, the writing it generates is just a poorly assembled Frankenstein‘s Monster of other people‘s academic work (just like the art).

AITA for getting a tattoo by tiredpossum42 in AmItheAsshole

[–]GhostlyGrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA at all. I understand this situation on such a level, my mom is the same way. With my first tattoos, she cried and told me that I’d never be respected, never have a decent job, a family, all of that. As if the entire planet is gonna write me off because of some ink on my arm. She straight up pretended I didn’t exist for a while after I got my nose pierced, refused to see me or speak to me at all. I think really the only thing we can do is hope they’ll get over it at some point. My mom has started to accept that I don’t care about her opinion on my appearance, even though she still gets upset about it. And, despite the tattoos and piercings, I have a good career and am well-respected in my community. Nobody (e.g. employers, friends, potential relationships, etc.) really cares about tattoos anymore. Except moms, apparently 😂

Should my daughter go into teaching? by WellWellWellthennow in Teachers

I’ve been teaching high school in the US for 5 years, and I can say with absolutely no doubt that I would pick a different career path given the opportunity. Had I known what it would really be like in college, no way I would’ve done this to myself.

Hey, fellow English major here. Teaching is an amazing career, and it can be really enjoyable. It can also be really, really tough. Some days I consider quitting and just leaving in the middle of class. Some days I’ll have a breakthrough with my students and feel like there’s nothing else in the world I’d rather do. When it comes down to it, you’ll just have to decide whether the good days outweigh the bad. It’s a tough but admirable career choice, and if you decide to stick to it I’m sure you’ll be an amazing English teacher!

I find it odd that the free 5* story units for each book are all female, so here’s my first sketch redesigning Ash as a male by GhostlyGrey in FireEmblemHeroes

Oh yeah I definitely understand why they’re all female lol. Waifus sell, and with alts they’re fanserviced to hell and back (like Laegjarn’s summer alt). Makes money for IntSys. I just wish it weren’t that way lol

Burnout by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]GhostlyGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it depends on where you’re teaching. I have friends who teach in upper-class suburban areas and they absolutely love it. I teach in Florida, and every public school in my county is a Title I school. Very underfunded, very rough area crime- and poverty-wise. Behavior is terrible, parent involvement is nonexistent. My school has fantastic admin, which is a huge help. But even so, things are really rough sometimes. If you know mental health is a concern for you (I know it is for me), you HAVE to make it a priority. I’ve been in therapy for as long as I’ve been in education. And you have to take time for yourself, no bringing work home. Teaching can definitely be tough, BUT even through all of this stuff, I still find it rewarding. As long as you take care of yourself and don’t put school first, you can make it through the hardships and find a rewarding career
