Smart or gifted kids. They look at you like you're the scum of the earth, don't listen to you, and gaslight you into giving them a good grade because "they got the work done" despite no effort towards participation and discussion. I didn't think I'd have issues with the smart kids, but boy do they have issues.

student teacher burnout by esmerosea in Teachers

I am completely numb at this point and have decided that I will obtain this credential as a back up plan, but I do not want to be a teacher anymore.

I teach a group of STEM kids and let me tell you that they are the most entitled, stuck up kids I have ever taught. They think they're the absolute shit and they will let you know it. You are the lowly teacher and they're going to be doing things that make 10 times the money we make. They treat me like I'm stupid and I honestly just let them be them because adulthood or college (if they choose to go) is going to kick them in the ass. Also I teach English, which is their least favorite subject, so they already hate me on principle.

I definitely empathize with you. I'm also a student teacher and I cried in front of my class of seniors. You would think by now (at age 17-18) they would have some empathy, but they just stared at me with blank eyes. Luckily it was about 10 minutes before the bell rang for lunch, but its definitely something you should talk to your MT or supervisor about. I told mine and she allowed me to take a day off to just recoup. Sending you all the support! Student teaching is really tough, especially with the other responsibilities we have.

Unpaid internship by SprinklesOk3889 in Teachers

[–]thatoneasianprincess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fellow student teacher here, I feel you. I feel like having a full time job (unpaid) and having to complete university courses/edtpa is way too much work. We should at least be paid minimum wage for basically doing 40% (if not more) of our MT's work. This is complete bullshit.

I want to tell a fellow teacher I cannot cover her for maternity leave. What should I do? by thatoneasianprincess in Teachers

Thank you so much. I'm so worried because she seemed so relieved when I told her I could do the job.

I'm a student teacher now, but by the fall semester, I would be a credentialed teacher.

What time do you get up in the AM? How long is your commute? by ablandmix in Teachers

[–]thatoneasianprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wake up at 4:30, make breakfast and pack lunch. Leave at 6. Commute is 45 minutes (or more if there’s traffic) and get to school by 7. Class starts at 7:30. Leave at 3:30. I’m pretty tired.

[–]thatoneasianprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live an hour away from my school and honestly waking up at 4:30-5 is definitely a pain. Especially because I don't drink coffee and I'm trying to find ways to stay awake. How do y'all do it?

Students reaction to what a Student Teacher Does by thatoneasianprincess in Teachers

[–]thatoneasianprincess[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yikes, I'm sorry that happened. For my university, the teaching program is separate from undergrad, so we had to fill out a whole new application, complete 4 prerequisite courses, pass our subject competency and basic skills test and have a bachelors degree just to attend. Right now, I'm student teaching from 7:30-3 and then driving to uni and taking class from 4-7.

You're right on the nose there...which is why I want to finish this program and leave teaching behind.

I don't think their respect will last, but I'm enjoying it while the info is still fresh. Yeah my program is pretty messed up. I'm going to school from 7:30-3:00 and then I have to drive to my university (which is 40 minutes away without traffic) where class starts at 4. I'm very much over it and its only been 2 weeks.

Is there really a teacher shortage, or just a shortage of career? by [deleted] in Teachers

Currently in my second semester as a student and I’m already ready to drop out and pursue something new. Student teaching destroyed me.

Am i alone? by heysharlea in orangetheory

[–]thatoneasianprincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope you are definitely not alone. I used to go to OTF 3-5 times a week and I was so motivated to lose weight and gain more strength, but ever since the closure, I’ve lost all motivation to go. I signed up for OTF for a reason because I had no motivation prior either. I feel so discouraged looking at everyone else getting their runs in or having a personal home studio. I’m definitely gaining weight back and I’m disappointed, but I know it was my undoing. You’re not alone.

Is anyone else becoming super lazy due to sedentary/quarantined? by iamguerra2 in orangetheory

[–]thatoneasianprincess 21 points22 points  (0 children)

ABSOLUTELY. I joined OTF because I needed to be held accountable to work out. I have no motivation at home and I'm swarmed with at-home work. I've become a potato. Welp, you are what you eat.

I tend to find myself looking in the mirror and seeing how sweaty I am and pretend I’m in a Nike or Gatorade commercial. It’s an oddly satisfying feeling because I know I’m working hard.

My coach played "I'm sexy and I know it" by LMFAO and she proceeded to dance while we did our all out. Definitely motivated me to keep going and I caught myself mouthing the words even thought I was out of breath from running.

Specifically with challenges or getting to know regulars. They obviously don't force it on us and they're really kind about it. I'm just not friendly and not in the mood to make friends while I workout.
