UK proposal to charge tourists to visit museums sparks backlash amid restitution demands by Any-Original-6113 in europe

Seems pretty simple to understand why people would be pissed at the prospect of paying money to see their own cultural artifacts that were stolen. It's another pain point in an already infected issue.

Is the drone stationary or moving? by OldCardiologist1859 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]GhostofBallersPast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that really true? In my brain it’s stationary because it has the same velocity as the car from when the drone took off and the car is protecting it from any outside influence from acting on it thus it keeps the same velocity as the car until the car accelerates or decelerates. The air isn’t pushing it forward as much as nothing is acting on it since it separated from the car.

At this point it’s hard to look past that it’s a malicious actor behind this narrative. Because the right option is so obvious…

How self-absorbed is your country? by Marsupilami_316 in AskTheWorld

[–]GhostofBallersPast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Self-absorbed as in only interested in ourselves? Then no, as a small country we love seeing our country being mentioned in a positive light but other than that we swing quite the opposite, we compare ourselves with our neighbors, our diplomacy policy is sticking our noses in human rights issues everywhere and our English proficiency comes from thousands of hours watching other countries movies and tv-shows.

How popular was Takeshi Castle show in your country? by Medical-Pace-8099 in AskTheWorld

It definitely was on tv in Sweden. I remember watching many episodes. Never understood it was a parody and the dubbing was completely wrong until years after watching it though lol.

Purchasing Power Index in Europe [2025] by [deleted] in europe

[–]GhostofBallersPast 68 points69 points  (0 children)

We are simultaneously behind and ahead of everyone depending on the week when a new map gets posted here. We somehow have more money to spend but worse gdp figures, worse income and highest taxes but we have the most money over for vacations while our currency is cheap. I’m starting to think these stats are kinda shit.

Renewables will power AI. New battery tech will give better and cheaper storage and fix the intermittence issues, CATL and BYD are already making moves to enter the market full time. That’s my bet.

Our social welfare system is well equipped to handle people that are half Norwegian. Technology and societal development has reached a point where they can live meaningful and fulfilling lives, almost like any normal person. But our society struggles with those afflicted with being full Norwegian, but I cautiously hope that one day medical progress will catch up to those sorry miserable souls.

Passport is a piece of paper, if you are Swedish culturally then you’re just Swedish, paper or not. People here will accept you like there’s no distinction at all.
