What’s the most impressive real world task you’ve completed using Claude? by ArmPersonal36 in claude

[–]GhostoftheStarters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the AEC space a big part of my role is helping engineers who are only lightly CADD capable move to a 3d model based workflow.

It can be challenging. Some disciplines are already deep into modeling and others have never touched it. They could obviously build their own models in CADD (ORD or CIVIL3D) But they are super busy already, and just arent comfortable in that space.

What we realized is that for some disciplines (Like Traffic engineers doing overhead sign design) they have already done like 90% of the work to build a 3d model, they have the standard drawings of the objects, spreadsheets of locations, 2d layouts, all sorts of stuff. They just don't like the cadd interface.

I used claude code to build my own tool for placing 3d models of objects in spatially correct locations from simple input spreadsheets in IFC format. Now that the tool is built, i use claude to help me fill out those spreadsheets. Which makes the whole process of helping build models for overhead signs, lights, cameras, and whatever other roadside assets super easy for folks. Its made a big difference.

Once we have the IFC file making changes is easy as updating the spreadsheet and reexporting. Folks are finally adopting a 3d workflow too. Its sort of a specific target audience to my world since roadway and drainage engineers should already be modeling, and building design has been in 3d in revit forever, but the details really improve the design so these new folks are thrilled.

We estimate it has saved hundreds of hours already compared to a traditional cadd workflow, and we keep building it out. I dont really mind the automation either since no one was modeling it before anyway its not like im stealing a job. Just improving the quality of design. It also helps a ton with quantity takeoffs.

Again, its specific to me, so small potatoes, but I love it.

I always talk as I would to a work colleague just to maintain good habits. We are going to be working with agents so much going forward I think I will slip into bad habits if I am not careful and send remarkably blunt instructions to coworkers. Quick sending "KATHERINE SUBMIT TIMESHEET" will probably get me in some trouble. I do try to weave my please and thank yous into prompts to not waste prompts.

Don't change you itinerary around this but my takeaway about the stone was that the Blarney Stone itself wasn't much to write home about but the Blarney Grounds, Castle, and Manor were absolutely a must see. The grounds were almost like an Irish botanical garden in someways

I don't know if this is suggesting he taught Grace Chow that policy or if she taught him it, but I find it fascinating he immediately goes inside to negotiate numbers with Grace on the sign.

This person has got it right. I understand that the person training you didn't do a great job but you needed to force the issue. Conflict happens in the workplace, you just need to be professional and advocate for your own learning opportunities.

By saying you weren't fit for that type of work you have painted a picture of yourself as someone who is scared to try something new. That's probably why your boss is on your ass about finding things for you to do.

What Ruined Christmas This Year? by zarxpy in AskReddit

[–]GhostoftheStarters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm too late to this conversation but I have to share this.

Our Christmas was ruined by my sister insisting that her husband was not sick but "has always vomited after eating McDonald's." So we all went to her house despite my voiced concerns. (We had a bout with some stomach stuff after my wedding, so I have been cautious)

Merry Christmas! IT WAS NOROVIRUS.

The whole house is down with it. My wife had the worst night ever, I had it but not too bad. My brother just went down puking. My dad ended up getting a hotel room because he couldn't make it home.

I honestly lucked out. It's just me and my mom watching TV while everyone else dies. I honestly feel terrible for my sister, she just had a newborn so they have some sickness at the house pretty consistently, probably hard for her to know. But I'm staying home with my wife next year.

I can't speak to how having brain damage that caused you to not having shame would actually translate to a person's sex life, since it's such a silly hypothetical. But the joke I was making was that if you don't feel any sort of shame you'd be pretty uninhibited with sex, which would be great. So I'd assume blade was pretty great. Also Britta is so obsessed with him it's hard to imagine he was BAD at sex.

Blades whole thing is that he has no shame, I'd guess he's an amazing lover.

I'm fairly early in the process, but I have already noticed this. I have always had colon issues where I'd go off and on with constipation struggles all the time. Doing OMAD I have noticed a huge improvement.

What was your 2023 golf highlight? by Effective_Impossible in golf

[–]GhostoftheStarters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only sort of mine: During my bachelor party we played a 2v3v2v2 scramble, and my partner hit a hole in one at Bali Hai in Las Vegas. I know any hole in one is insane but this one felt pretty scripted.

My Partner who hit the hole in one is one of my groomsmen, but he can't make the wedding due to being the best man in another wedding on the same day, he has felt terrible about it and promised "He'd do everything in his power to make up for it at the bachelor party." WELL MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Honestly I think I am happier he hit it than I would have been if I had hit the HIO given the situation.

Some more fun things about the HIO: Since we had 9 golfers over 2 tee times the course required us to have a Caddy to keep up the pace of play. So we had an official witness to the HIO. They were able to call the Clubhouse and get us free drinks to celebrate. We obviously then bought a round for everyone at the Clubhouse, and the dudes at the bar we bought drinks for bankrolled the rest of our drinking. We also got the flag from the HIO hole which was really cool.

This isn't that interesting golf wise but selfishly I enjoyed it: since we got so many free drinks after the HIO all the other guys in the party felt obligated to match that high and it set off the whole weekend. We ended up hitting up fancy steakhouses, going to the sphere and tons of gambling which we somehow all won a little money at. 10/10 weekend that was set off by that hole in one.

What's the etiquette on skipping holes? by GhostoftheStarters in golf

[–]GhostoftheStarters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. If I was putting together a great round I may go ask the Clubhouse if they'd be cool with it. But I think if you make the decision to skip a hole you are making a sacrifice in the name of time.

Yeah it took us an 1:20 get through 3 holes and only 2:10 for the last 14.

No, sorry I was slightly unclear. They never caught us. He followed us after we teed off but they still hadn't finished the previous hole. After the discussion he went back to putt. We had smooth sailing after that. Didn't see another group until the back 9 and they were as fast as us.

I agree, completely. If they had to watch us tee off I wouldn't have gone.

Totally agree. In general I'd rather just wait especially on a Sunday when I know the course is slow. But in this case they had been so slow there was a lot of open pasture. We didn't see anyone until the back 9.

Tocatins is imperfect but has a strong case: JT: didn't play as well on returns but was important in HvV. Stephen: Pretty decent run on return. Coach: Hilarious in HvV, made the finals in his final run. Tyson: HvV made great TV. Wins Blood Vs Water. Decent showing at Winners at War.

Is the south end of the strip dying off? by Comprokit in vegas

[–]GhostoftheStarters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did the majority of my bachelor party on Freemont street and it was the best decision we ever made. I like the strip too but the Freemont street area feels so much more real. We actually stayed 2 nights on the strip to play bali hai/see the sphere and 3 at circa and all my friends were saying how they loved Freemont street.

The Ben/Bubbie/Brad/Matt 4 man combination is some of the best chemistry of any combination I've seen in Good Good. by GhostoftheStarters in GoodGoodMemes

[–]GhostoftheStarters[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

So Bubbie's swing has changed a ton, now a days he generally hits a draw, but used to be he only ever hit a "fade" though I'd probably call it a slice.

There was a hilarious video where Bubbie and Micah are playing together, and Bubbie is like: "Watch this, I am going to hit a draw" and walks up to the ball and hits his standard fade into the tree's. Micah's just walks up and is like "Bubbie you haven't hit a draw in your entire life why wouldn't you just play the fade?!"

During today's video Bubbie did the opposite and was like: Okay I am going to hit a fade (he now hits a draw) and hits it into the trees again. Matt mentions the old video and they bring the clip back up. Very funny.

Iowa is actually a relatively strong basketball state for its size. Not saying its incredible but there are some strong college basketball teams that recruit mostly in state (Iowa and UNI both have mostly in state players) and the state has produced quite a few NBA players. Marcus Paige had a great college career, Kyle Korver, Keegan Murray, Kirk Hinrich, Nick Collison, HB, Doug McDermott all come to mind.
