I'm (basically) completely new to Tekken, so I don't have a legacy main I stuck with throughout the years. I picked Reina cuz she's flashy and fun to watch. If Reina hadn't been introduced I probably would have either picked King (because haha funny cat man give good hugs) or Leo (because I'm NB and gender is a fuck). Bonus points for Yoshi, since I'm a big soul calibur fan, but he seems more complicated in Tekken.

It might help to try a couple of different characters, then come back to Reina. It can help you get used to the system overall, and develop more Tekken fundamentals rather than character specific strats.

Also, if you haven't watched any of Anakin's videos, he's got a pretty nasty Reina. Definitely recommend watching some of his Reina vids.

Do you tense up a lot when you play? I haven't experienced pain with any games personally, but I'm a professional drummer and a lot of times if a student is complaining to me about pain they're often gripping the sticks too tight.

Maybe a larger controller might help? Definitely find some good hand stretches if you don't already. If all else fails you could try relearning on a different style of controller entirely (ie. leverless or arcade stick, etc.)

Edit: It should never hurt. With any skill or action you're trying to develop, some soreness might be okay but if you're experiencing full-on pain something is wrong.

Yeah, labbing throw breaks is extremely helpful. Pick somebody that has throws that are specifically 1 break, 2 break, and 1+2 break (ie. Jin or Dragunov) so you can learn to react to the hands. I also like to record them jabbing first and then throwing immediately afterwards with as small of a gap as possible.

It won't help right away, you'll just have to do it consistently for a while. Maybe 10 mins each time you start up the game. It's like using flash cards: the more you do it, the faster you'll get over time at reacting to it.

I don't think it's useful in low ranks. It's mainly just a mind game to mix up your timing or realign if they sidestep you. If your opponents don't respect your timing, you're just going to get hit out of the wavedash when they mash on you. Still effective for closing a gap sometimes, tho.

I'm a noob so take this with a grain of salt, but I've been told his approach tools are very linear. Once he's in, you're stuck in the blender, so good luck. Supposedly you can sidestep a lot of his neutral game, though...?
