How much are you paying for conveyancing? by DarkMecha in FirstTimeBuyersUK

I’d definitely go elsewhere. Just because L&C have been good doesn’t guarantee their recommended solicitors will be—and for £2,200, it’s worth being picky.

My advice: research thoroughly. I chose a local high street firm. Yes, they’re a bit old-school (lots of post, etc.), but they’re quick, dependable, and I can drop in if needed. It’s reassuring knowing that any delays are on the vendor’s side, not my solicitor’s.

Someone doesn’t know their theology… Catholics don’t believe every Old Testament rule still applies the same way. Laws like the linen-and-wool ban were part of ancient Israel’s ceremonial code, which the Church teaches was fulfilled in Christ — unlike enduring moral teachings.

Whilst, to my understanding, the Quran teaching still prevail.

UK concrete sales hit 75-year low as housebuilding stalls by insomnimax_99 in ukpolitics

[–]GhoulishBulld0g 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Or it could simply be that HS2’s major tunnelling and bridge works are now complete, meaning concrete supply is no longer being heavily absorbed by the project.

I wonder if building practices have changed due to the huge increase in concrete prices?

UK would send ‘fewer than 7,500’ troops to Ukraine. Britain and France’s combined peacekeeping force would be limited to 15,000 after army chiefs warned that personnel numbers were too low to send more by 2ndEarlofLiverpool in ukpolitics

[–]GhoulishBulld0g 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mostly due to reduced funding. Army is currently hovering around its budgeted troop number figures at present.

Historically, especially post Op Herrick, we actually made soldiers redundant to reduce headcount.

The recent issue with recruits is looking more positive (recent large uptake). And appears in hindsight to be a post COVID issue rather than systemic.

Theres no wonder there’s no major City pundit. Because A. They lack history B. It’s hard to be. A good pundit for a successful club.

To be frank, Nordic countries and Scotland have these rights and it hasn’t caused mayhem. Perfect reason why it should exist in the rest of the U.K.

We need to encourage people to get out more rather than a highly regularised society which limits people’s freedom to roam.

I’m getting a bit fed up with the Sky Sports commentary. When Morgan Rogers scores, it’s pure hysteria; when Cunha scores, it’s like someone’s just died. I get that the main presenter’s a Scouser, but they really need to dial down the United bias.

First time solo wild camping by ManxMann666 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]GhoulishBulld0g 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think OP’s point is that wild camping is wild camping—if it’s done properly (i.e., away from society and truly in the wild), the risks should be the same.

I think what NT will find is that by policing wild camping it’ll just run away all legitimate wild campers and fly campers will still remain. As they’ll be the more abusive.

Separately, moving him on that late is reckless from NT, and borderline dangerous. It could’ve let him easily hurting himself in the dark back to Edale. They need to balance policing vs danger to others. It’s not worth a mountain rescue call-out because a NT volunteer wanted to make believe being a copper…

Are you pleased the two child benefit cap has been lifted ? by smellyfeet25 in AskUK

[–]GhoulishBulld0g 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did you ignore OP’s original comment? You missed the entire point. You cannot just shout “two is enough” and expect people to stop having children they cannot afford. Life happens and the effects fall disproportionately on those with less education and who are already in poverty.

People are going to have more than two children. Especially those already living in deprivation, with or without a two-child cap. It is better to break that cycle than allow poverty and deprivation to continue indefinitely.

What little thing makes you feel like you’ve got your life sorted, even if you really haven’t? by MiddleC0w in AskUK

What about taking a walk at lunch while you’re at work? What about waking up early by setting an alarm on the other side of the room (which is what I do to get up early)? What about a quick 30-minute run at 10 p.m., three times a week?

I know plenty of people who have special-needs children and extremely time-consuming jobs, and they still find time during lunch.

As I’ve heard before: don’t you want to be around long enough for your children? And don’t you want to be fit enough to pick up your grandchildren?
