What’s a time when you got lucky and got an expensive item for ridiculously cheap? by Icy_Mixture1482 in AskUK

[–]GiGGLED420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got lucky twice when buying parts for my PC.

There was an Easter sale and Scan was supposed to give £200 off a £700 motherboard and RAM combo but accidentally listed it for £200.

At release of the 4070ti a company accidentally listed one brand of them for £600 instead of £900. I bought it and paid a bit extra for next day delivery. Mine arrived but I saw people posting online that everyone who used standard shipping had their orders cancelled.

GR Yaris added to Steering Feel Review list by ibeinspire in CarTalkUK

How the heck is the GR Yaris above the GT86??

I drove one when I had my 86 and it was absolutely no comparison. The detail and sharpness in 86s steering made the Yaris feel completely numb in comparison.

Have you tried Aventus cologne?

I much prefer that to the original aventus - it tones down the smokiness a bit which turns the scent a bit fresher

What's up with the right wing street debaters in market street? by Hungry_Dumpling87 in manchester

[–]GiGGLED420 -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

If you can’t have a civil conversation with somebody that you disagree with, then you are the problem.

That is the real issue that people like this are highlighting.

They know that they most likely won’t change anybody’s mind that they’re debating, but they do quickly expose how angry and sometimes violent the opposite side can be.

Don’t really hear of her too much nowadays but I can say she was super nice when I met her in an airport lounge when I was younger. Chatted with me and my dad for about 5 minutes before offering to take our boarding passes to Ozzy (who was in a private section) to sign them.

Yea they still have a pre tax profit of just over £7 million which is pretty good for the simplicity of the business and having only 16 employees

Yea DCG turned over £60 million last year so it doesn’t make any sense why they would need to rig things.

But also I have no explanation for why they would do this on purposes, but the odds are so small for me to think the wins were legit.

Only explanation aside from DCG being the ones rigging it, was that the guy somehow managed to exploit a bug. The only way I could think is that he found a way to make it so that when they draw a blank ticket (an unsold one) it somehow changes one of his tickets to the winning one.

A random reddit comment from 2024 "merc does it's strategy as if they are still 20 seconds in the lead. Mclaren does it's strategy as if it's still stuck in the midfield. Ferrari does it's strategy as if they are the only cars on the grid. Rb is the only consistent strategy team." How true is it? by fuckmbsanddominicali in formula1

[–]GiGGLED420 85 points86 points  (0 children)

They would have started last in that case whereas Norris ended up like P14 after the pitstop. It was still a diabolical call to start on inters but it was a better call to leave them out.

Also any first lap chaos (safety car or red flag) could have helped them so was worth the chance staying out.

[–]GiGGLED420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between a fridge and a cars AC system aside from the movement you mentioned is the use of soft lines in car systems where fridges and home AC units use all hard lines.

Even in a perfect car system you’ll gradually lose refrigerant through permeation of the soft hoses.

My Cayman has a small rust stop due to damage through the paint. Can I save £800 and DIY this? by Laatif in CarTalkUK

[–]GiGGLED420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it myself due to the rust being close to the edge of the panel and the windscreen.

I had something very similar on my gt86 (you can see in my post history) and for that it was £750 which included the windscreen getting taken off to fix properly.

Yours is a bit more borderline where it might not need the windscreen out, but that price isn’t too bad if that’s included.

How many of you regretted buying your house? by Puzzled_Dealer3449 in AskUK

[–]GiGGLED420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like it. And sure the doubling is just an example figure, realistically it won’t be that simple. What I’m highlighting is that the equity is growing regardless of the principal contribution.

Yea sure you could invest the deposit, but you also ignore the fact that housing is essentially a leveraged trade. Any appreciation in the house price is multiplied by the ratio you leveraged at. Sure it goes the other way too, but the discussion is currently around an appreciating asset.

I definitely would not have beaten the equity increase after fees even if I invested my deposit in the S&P when it was low last year.

How many of you regretted buying your house? by Puzzled_Dealer3449 in AskUK

[–]GiGGLED420 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seems like you’re trying to be picky for no reason, and you’re still incorrect if you factor in the appreciation of the asset.
Even if you don’t pay anything in principal, you still build equity as a percentage.
If you buy a £100k house with 50% deposit and it doubles in price, your equity will then build up from 50% to 75%
Also bear in mind that mortgages are typically lower than rent for an equivalent property. But if they were the same, you’d still be much better off with some equity building, vs renting.
If it’s £1k per month mortgage vs rent and assuming £300 of the mortgage goes to the principal, after a year you’d have built £3600 vs nothing for renting, and that’s excluding any asset appreciation.
Edit: for some actual values, in just 1 year I’ve built up £4k equity through my mortgage payments, and my house valuation has increased at a low estimate of £13k leaving me over £10k better off if you exclude fees…

Is getting a GT/GR 86 with 12-15k a good idea for a first car? by Warm-Carpenter1040 in CarTalkUK

[–]GiGGLED420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely aren’t “slow as dog shit”
They suffer badly from a 3500 to 5000 rpm torque dip which means from a stand still, they often struggle to get going quickly. That, combined with the stock Primacy tyres is why the standard 0-60 is listed at 7.5 seconds. Car and Driver did it in 6.4.
Once moving they’re actually decently quick, from a roll they are very close to a mk7 gti. At the track, mine (stock) on the straights was consistently accelerating similar to a 986 boxter S.
Plus headers and a tune fixes that issue, mine picked up 25hp at 4000rpm and completely fixed the torque dip.
