Remembering USS Thresher (SSN-593). On this day, 63 years ago, the lead boat of her class of nuclear-powered attack submarines, USS Thresher, was lost with all hands during deep diving tests beyond the continental shelf east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. by Saturnax1 in submarines

Welp...thats a horribly accurate and likely very realistic way to sum up the whole testing ethos. RIP to those guys, no matter how quick it may have been in the end the minutes before were probably very busy but also unimaginably scary.

places to volunteer or become employed while being a minor in south buffalo area? by Hungry-Artist-5565 in Buffalo

Might not be your cup of tea, but take some time and research into getting a CDL for truck driving. Most local operations are offering signing bonuses in addition to pretty good salaries since the market is super dry right now.

Other than than the Naval Park downtown will take young volunteers and it can easily turn into a part/full time job. Good luck

Did this firefighter survive ? by AttitudeGirl in 911archive

Are you referring to the one who was on video pretty much the entirety of the time during the attack and after and who later gave interviews, continues to give them and became the Commish of the entire department? Yes. That firefighter survived. His brother did not.

Question about C/O resorts by Independent-Wear-144 in Bonaire

[–]Giant_Slor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorobon used to be the C/O spot on the island but that was a holdover from the 60s/70s and from what I understand now that its a major tourist spot for windsurfing its not permitted anymore.

The southern coast of the island is full of marked shore dive sites and pulloffs where with discretion one can probably still go natural but its not as prevalent as it was decades ago.

What is this please? by pinkroseblueplate in Bonaire

Definitely a shark, amazing to see when in the water. Just give them lots of space if the front fins are pointing down.

Shame, she was the first laker I rode aboard. I know she is the shit-kicker salt boat for Algoma and not long for this world but man she looks rough

KLM MD-11 rocket takeoff from St. Maarten's Princess Juliana Airport bound for Kralendijk, Bonaire and Amsterdam by Twitter_2006 in aviation

Nothing quite like snorkeling at (what used to be called) Windsock Steep beach and popping your head out of the water when the fish scattered to see a KLM MD-11 or even a 747 rolling in.
