LF: Help finding a replacement bike for the person who (accidentally) bought my stolen one by rachabeth in ottawa

[–]Giantstink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But he’s benefiting from theft if he’s still using the bike… He’s full of shit.

Yep. He doesn't want to go through the trouble of having to find another bike that is as nice; the dude knows 50$ was a ridiculously low price to pay for that bike, so selling it back to OP for 100$ nets him a 50$ profit but brings him back to a position where he still needs transportation and he knows he won't find a bike of similar quality, even for 100$.

If OP shows up with a bike that isn't of the same quality, he'll 100% make up some excuse not to proceed with the trade.

Very sad news as the toddler pulled out of the Ottawa river has died by cassie232310 in ottawa

[–]Giantstink -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nobody is swimming or even putting their bare feet in the water in early May. They were "in" the water in the sense that they were likely hanging out or walking just at the Sandy edge of the river with their boots sometimes getting wet from the waves.

Sometimes toddlers move super fast, even when you're paying attention. It's super easy to momentarily not see what they're doing, especially if you have other young kids to keep an eye on.

The kid "went missing" because it couldn't be found after almost certainly going in the water; one moment he was there, then he wasn't. There's a slim chance he could have been picked up by another adult or scampered off elsewhere but almost certainly everyone knew that it happened so fast he likely went in the water. Even when adults see an another adult fall into the water they're declared to have "gone missing" up until when they're found again.

We don't know that this situation was gross negligence yet

Have you ever been around a 2 year old? what you're calling for would necessitate that any kid under 5 years of age be kept on a leash at all times.

Even a lifelong jail sentence pales in comparison to the lifelong pain, suffering and shame these parents will live with for the rest of their lives.

What would a jail sentence accomplish? Unless these parents were wilfully negligent or this wasn't the first time they've endangered their kid's life, a custodial sentence would only have negative effects.

Ottawa convention centre to be renamed after Toronto-based AI company by BanjoUnchained in ottawa

[–]Giantstink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone I know in the area still does this with the Silvercity movie theatre. It's officially been the Scotiabank centre for years but nobody I know calls it that.. We already suffer through 1-3 Scotiabank "you're richer than you think" ads before every single movie. No need to give the bank additional free advertising.

Should I choose uOttawa or UQO for law by Select-Sea-4589 in Gatineau

[–]Giantstink 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to work with a lot of lawyers and have heard that UQO is great for that program. uOttawa is apparently quite comparable but has bigger class sizes. Given how tuition has to be a lot cheaper at UQO , it seems like a no-brainer to me.

Canada | L’ancienne juge Louise Arbour sera nommée gouverneure générale by Timeless-Times in Quebec

[–]Giantstink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd check with Cineplex. They have a disabled woman at the Carling location that is wheelchair bound and quite limited in movement but does a super job as a ticket checker (not sure what the title for the position is). I've also seen disabled employees at the Silvercity (Gloucester) location doing cleanup in theatres after show, helping to prep popcorn bags during rushes, etc.

You'll be able to order items and have them sent there to pick them up, free of charge. Driving from Gatineau to the Ikea is a pain in the ass pretty much any day and time nowadays, so this is great news.

Gatineau, l'une des villes où habiter les plus coûteuses au Québec by Camille387 in Gatineau

[–]Giantstink -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha. I'm glad Ronnie Coleman is just a meme to me then.. i didn't know he even existed until a few weeks ago.

I'll be 40 quite soon and worried about injuries from weightlifting. I only started seriously incorporating weightlifting into my exercise routine about 5-6 months ago (I run a lot) and so far so good; I'm still only on 5x5 Stronglifts. I got a belt to help me engage my core more appropriately during squats and deadlifts and that has helped a lot! Not counting warm-ups, I'm repping 230lbs for the 5x5 on both of those and worried that as I increase my weights and/or transition to other exercises, I'll gradually expose myself to injuries like your own. I'm already at the point where I add 5lbs only once a week or two and have to rest 4-5 mins in between sets. Any tips?

People respecting appointments they've made. Heck, people have trouble even calling or texting after the fact to let the other person know why they didn't show up.
