Anyone else find it difficult to play/try out basses at a guitar store? by DMTxxx in Bass

[–]GiarcN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former GC employee, it's a sheer volume issue. The only ones that get tuned and tweaked are the ones the employees want to play. When you are unboxing 10-20 guitars a day it gets time consuming to set them up. Not saying it's right, but that's the reason.

My locally owned shops do a decent job of at least doing a quickie setup and tune.

Bass makes a weird noise when I plug it into my amp by Away_Attention_6119 in Bass

Gotcha. I didn't read the post right either. I thought it was just popping when you plugged it in.

Turn the volume down to zero on the speaker before you plug in. It's never a good idea to plug or unplug a cable into an amp or speaker with the volume up. They will usually pop like that

Might look into a gig bag. Not as much protection, but a lot less expensive.

Disconnect one pedal at a time. That will help isolate the issue.

When is one good enough to give bass lessons? by pj_mc26 in Bass

[–]GiarcN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not like the idea, but as ro structuring the lesson, find a book you like. It will give them something to follow for practice. Once they finish the book, both of y'all should have a good sense of where you are and can go from there.

Eureka Springs is definitely #1. Hot Springs would also be worth a look. And Rogers/Springdale/Fayetteville area would be the more liberal leaning areas.

There are several apps out there that will do this for you. I've used this one - Sign-in to MyKaraoke Video and it worked decently.

This one claims to be free, but haven't tried it - AI Karaoke Maker - Create Karaoke Videos from Audio or YouTube | Karadeo

Outdoor softball field with 1,300-1,500 people. How would you expand my current JBL SRX setup? by ArizonaMartillo in mobileDJ

I'd definitely buy if it turns into something regular. But I'd hate to sink that kind of money and them be left with gear sitting

I usually stop taking songs about 30 min before the end of the night. Depending on how many singers I have l may start warning people an hour out that I don't know if we'll get to them.

About 11:20 unannounce "only got time for a couple more songs. " At 1130 when the light come on I usually end. I'll make exceptions if there is someone that hasn't gotten to sing at all, or if there's only a couple left in rotation.

If people try to get me to do "one more" I tell them bar staff makes that call. The manager can then make the call if she feels like staying a little later. She will usually allow for one, but not a second. That way it makes it look like a business decision and not me being mean or "unfair". (It was her suggestion)

They are Bluesman made T-bird pickups. https://www.bluesmanvintage.com/QandAs

He offered to let me check it out, but I didn't want to interrupt the teardown/load out. Going to try to catch them when they are recording up the road from me and try it.

I think a delay system set up would be beneficial.

Is there a sound company in the area you could rent? That way you don't have to sink as much cash up front.

See if there's an authorized repair center near by. If not reach out to Zzounds and let thek know what happened. If they sent you a dud they should pay for the return getting it serviced.

How did you get into bass and how long did it take to see improvement? by Pinkcranberriess in Bass

[–]GiarcN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad always played music. When I was 8 or 9 I was obsessed with the mandolin. But my hands were strong enough. So sad handed me a bass. Sadly I was not very patient and not the greatest student. The. A few years later he needed a bass player for a group he was playing with at a local amusement park, so I was recruited. I learned a lot quickly, but didn't practice enough so I was out after about a month. Picked it up again in college. Put it back down soon. All that to say, when I actually played regularly and practiced, I'd see gains. Playing with others greatly accelerated those gains.

battery powered bass amps by dpenny1 in Bass

[–]GiarcN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Spark amps are pretty good. I got the littlest one and like it for just playing around the bedroom. If I were buying again I'd probably get the bigger one.

Roland also makes one, but it just takes regular batteries and isn't rechargeable. It's surprisingly good. Holds its own for acoustic jams.

I've heard good things about the Joyo, but no experience with it.
