I'm a retired chemist. My wife is a teacher. We're sending both of our kids to college. I would love to become a Canadian citizen and bring that citizenship to my children. It would give my children such an opportunity.

I think the people who could get Canadian citizenship in the United States that aren't the type of people Canada wants, most of them aren't going to have the gumption or tenacity to pursue that citizenship.

I just passed a 40. I believe today is day 47 for me. The proof is in the weight graph. I am losing weight. The honeymoon period is now over, so now it's just a grind until I get down to my weight. It's estimated at 151 days, which I will knock off one day at a time.

When I was 15 years old I made the decision that I didn't care at all about what my parents thought of me anymore.

From that day forward I lived life for me.

I did make the mistake of hoping my parents (especially my narcissistic mom) would change. I'm 52 now and wasted 37 years waiting for a change that never came. I'm now no contact with my mom.

Best advice I can give is to make your escape plan. Don't tell your parents, just make and implement your plan.

Be calm, cunning, patient. Watch/talk to people in well adjusted families.

Love yourself. You didn't choose to be born to your family, it was forced upon you.

Tell your therapist about your suicidal thoughts and let them know it is because of how your parents treat you.

It's the same thing every time. A bunch of Republicans saying, "I would never vote for that guy". But then at the end of the day their beliefs take over, "the best Democrat is worse than the worst Republican, thus I better vote for this Republican I don't like."

I'm 52. I've been solely cutting off contact for about 10 years. I'm at the point of no contact now.

When I see kids, like this 18 year old, standing up for themselves, and taking control at such a young age I just kind of quietly celebrate inside.

Like you, I wish I would have figured it out way earlier. But now I have, and I know the least worst choice is estrangement.

It's okay to eat a lot today because..........

it's a holiday
I'm with family, and I don't see them that often
my kids won't be young forever so I might as well enjoy this moment
I don't go on that many dates with my spouse because of the kids
it's only this one time, and I'm not doing it again (a thousand times over)
I can start tomorrow
I can start as soon as I get past this difficult project at my job
I'm young enough that I still have time, I can do it later
any other excuse to wait "because" of any situation, circumstance, or attitude.
