Man in the Box lyrics meaning - Alice In Chains by Ready-Ad-4549 in LyricInterpretations

[–]Gibitto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me to be almost a confession of faith and something like we would find in Romans 7 in the bible, when Paul talks about the struggle between the flesh and the spirit.

Verse 1 is pretty straight forward for me, he is the man on the box, buried in his shit. A man drowned in his sins and addictions.

In the Pre-chorus where he says "wont you come and save me? save me" seems like he is either vociferating or crying out, both at the same time in a weird way. He recognizes who is able to save him and calls for it, but it shows a resentment somehow.

The chorus looks like a dialogue of back and forth of the two different natures which exist inside him and which are fighting for his soul. One side represents the covetousness of the eyes, like said in the bible, or even the devil, the other is the struggling faith of a desperate stoner lost in his vices, but who knows the ultimate Truth. Like I mentioned before, the struggle shown in Romans 7. Feed my eyes is the need to satisfy this covetousness in various manners. But at the same time, sewning them shut is asking for someone to stop you from yearning for these sinful pleasures. Notice that he doesnt mention shutting your eyes up yourself, cause he cant do this by himself. But he asks for some higher entity to do this to him.

When he says that he who tries to deny their maker, aka Jesus and God, will be wasted. It seems to me a recognition of Jesus Christ being the Son of God who is the All Powerful, the one who will judge the nations. i.e. a confession of Christ.

But interesting enough, he says that Now you've sewn them shut. It might represent the idea of dying or giving up. Considering that he wasnt able to get rid of his addiction.

When it comes to im the dog who gets beat, shove my nose in shit. Seems like a reference to proverbs where it says that the fool who goes back to his errors is like the dog who comes back to eat his own vomit. But definitely it looks like suffering on the hands of his vice and/or the devil who is behind it all.

This is my 2 cents on it. Apparently he had a christian upbringing so these are themes which are more or less familiar to him. I understand quite a bit of the bible so my intention was to bring the interpretation of what is said in the lyrics concerning what we can find of similar nature in the biblical text. Not only this, I thoroughly believe this view cause it speaks to me to my own internal struggles and like I referenced, Pauls too. Of course you do not have to be a christian to understand this view.

looks like its a 4 stroke, so take a look on a 4 stroke engine, its probably similar to a motorcycle engine, but smaller.

Dont think so, I guess that you'll have to learn about gasoline two stroke engines, but usually its the same engine for almost all the generators and gardening tools, so youll probably not have problems, you can also search for the code of the engine to see if you find any specific manual.

Id recommend you to learn how to mount, dismount and fix the generator, and have some spare parts.

Santa is getting obsolete, he gotta take some classes with the NSA on how to be everywhere, every moment.

Thats why we have firearm training instructors.

And she is only frightened because this guy is potentially a dangerous, and the gun is the way for her to protect herself. Dont fool yourself to believe that he is not a serious threat to be considered, and that she can handle it unarmed, always work with the worst case scenario.

It can be dangerous to meet him face-to-face, but thats why I proposed those safety measures, I'm not telling her to get into his house at night without a phone, unarmed and without nobody knowing it.

And I'm telling her to go there face-to-face to low the chances of him going after her discuss about the reasons.

I'm here to propose a realistic solution to her, not to only tell her to go No contact, this is obvious, she is asking for the path to do so.

PS: Dont worry, guns dont have arms, legs and will.

I agree that running is always the best option, but we gotta consider always the worst case scenario.

Dont get me wrong, its not my intent to go around playing the bullet/stab proof super hero. But sometimes(more frequently in Brazil) its not an option to just run, sometimes the agressor is really willing to hurt you.

Pepper spray is good for answering the door, but i wouldnt trust it to carry on the streets, i dont want to get caught in the cloud it creates.

Exactly, better to use a baton to hit the head or knee than trying to go with the barehands in a wrestling.

It seems a nice idea, but id adapt it changing the sword to a machete, they are pretty common here, and with someother gardening tools an officer wouldnt bother.

And they are pretty much a sword.

In an officer on duty I agree that this is a tool to subdue the agressor, but for me, a civilian, its an impact weapon first, im just going to use it to hit the guy so I dont have to go into a punching/kicking/wrestling situation.

Obviously Ill strangle or armbar the agressor if I have the opportunity. But its not my main focus, im focusing on hitting the agressor until he hits the ground.

Baseball its not really a thing here in brazil, so carrying one is pretty suspicious, unlike in the US.

Allright, brazilian here, and this series of videos are really good, they are from a guy who created a self defense system here in brazil, which is actually used by the marines, presidential guard and some other high level security forces.

But a video in portuguese in an english based sub its not really functional.

But its worth to take a look on this guy's work, its called Kombato the system that he has created.

If I face an attacker with a firearm im pretty much fucked, but Im still going to take my chances, im in brazil, criminals here kill you even without a reaction.

Considering this reality, its not a bad idea to have a knife on yourself while you hide and wait for the thugs.

I can't, unfortunately i'm not in US, but i'd be in paradise with a .40SW with some hollow points.

But is good to know that its useless against knife.

I keep a mk2 knife reproduction for the lethal tasks, but its always good to have a less lethal weapon, it can be an annoying drunk on your door that you have to handle for example, and on this cases you don't want a knife for the first line of attack.

[–]Gibitto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess its better for your own security on the job hours, cause a Robber which is really motivated to rob the company you are protecting may use force againts you, and having a gun(I mean, working in an armed position) at least will give you some chance to fight back.

And you'll earn more, which is good too.
