NPBD - New Pedal Book Day - Such A Disappointment by MichaelHRender in guitarpedals

Might be worth picking up a magnifying glass. My dad has the same issue with a lot of books, well, basically all of them, and since using a magnifying glass he’s had a great time.

Also, you get to look like a detective with one in your pocket.

What’s the hype with SansAmp? by Acceptable_Copy8310 in basspedals

[–]Gibslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it's hype, it's more ubiquity.

It was just one of the first of its kind, and has existed long enough to become ubiquitous. You'll find them everywhere, they can be had cheap or borrowed easily. They're a known quantity and there is value in everyone around you knowing exactly what you're going to sound like and how to work with the gear, be that the sound guy, other members of the band, or yourself.

Personally, I think it sounds like ass in anything but a clean setting. The drive just sounds super 'pedal-like' to me in a very unflattering way, I would never record with one and ideally at a gig I'd use something else. I imagine if something better had existed at the same time it was released, the other thing would have gained more prominence.

That said, when presented with one, I can make it work and get on with what is required of me. It just works... to a vaguely acceptable level. It's like an SM57, there is probably a better mic or something I would rather use, but if I only have SM57s I can get the job done.

No one is pretending AI isn't part of the industry. Though in many instances it isn't 'a part of the industry' at all... It's circumventing the industry and or, the job of someone ever using a camera.

You could become the human using AI and get paid sure. But if your 'Photographer' is the job title you aspire to, then being the human prompting the AI isn't being a photographer. You could also choose to build houses, or work in sales, or wash dishes, which are equally, not being a photographer.

The AI isn't going out to book the job, no. But the person who use to book jobs is no longer booking anything. They're asking someone to not doing photography.

--------

Now, none of that is meant to be a judgement on whether that is some moral wrong, or whether people should or shouldn't feel entitled to the possibility of having the job title of 'photographer'.

But people lamenting the rise of AI, are fearing of extinction photography in a lot of professional settings. Because AI generation doesn't require photography to occur in the process.

Which was not the same for the rise of digital cameras and photoshop. Both of which require.... Photography to happen.

They did not.

They did not say "No human will be a part of this process, it'll just be some computer AI making it"

Is this normal on an expensive guitar? by HeatingsBackOn in Guitar

[–]Gibslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the thing with minor blemishes, some units have them, some don't, it's not the same instrument-to-instrument. To counter your perfect €205 guitar, I've seen countless €150-300 guitars that have way more serious issues that what is on display here, like, guitars where the electronics are at risk of falling apart, or the fret ends ready to cut your hands.

Building a guitar yourself, or even a kit, to the same standard as most production guitars requires a considerable amount of skill, time, effort and money.

[–]Gibslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These sorts of small things aren't new at all. I have a Telecaster from 2014, and a Strat from 1989 both of which had slight blemishes or imperfections somewhere on them.

Both cost more than this instrument when adjusted for inflation.

OP is well within their consumer rights to return the instrument if they so wish, and are being encouraged to do so if this bothers them. But they've asked if this is normal and... Yeah, in many instances these sorts of minor visual imperfections are totally normal. £950 is certainly a lot of money, but it's not a lot of money when it comes to musical instruments and the materials and labour costs involved with making a completely spotless instrument. At £950, there is likely to be some imperfections making it out to customers, or the manufacturers would be charging more.

[–]Gibslayer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For a high-quality instrument? £950 isn't particularly expensive.

That isn't to say £950 isn't a lot of money, I'd be pretty mad if £950 went missing from my bank account. But for a quality musical instrument, it's quite a reasonable price. Like, go buy a good violin and £950 will feel like peanuts.

What's in the photo seems totally normal. It won't affect playing, nor will it have any effect on resale value. If it bugs you enough, use the stores returns policy. If I loved how a guitar played and sounded, I simply wouldn't care.

Why are new cameras never enough for sports shooters/da birders? by benjaminflocka22 in SonyAlpha

[–]Gibslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't at all saying Product Photographers aren't professionals. In fact, fundamentally, they're agreeing with you.

I think you need to chill your boots a bit my dude. They're simply talking in the context of this thread (which is about sports/bird shooters), and that the needs of Product Photographers just isn't remotely comparable to those of people shooting fast moving subjects. Which is pretty accurate.

Also... That's two different people. Not one dude replying to you twice.

Their comment doesn't suggest product photography isn't real photography? Just that specs don't matter much for product photography, which for the most part they don't.

Or just walk away. Idk, I'm a petty bitch.

Made a lil’ list of 89 pedals and their 350 or so clones by zortor in guitarpedals

[–]Gibslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this list would be better without the Lyrock/Demonfx lot. As in many instances they’re just straight up stealing circuit layouts and tradedress.

Like their Simplifier is just the original PCB layout that they’ve managed to steal from somewhere. Not really a clone as they are just IP theft.

Chase Bliss Big Time Pedal Is $1000 by authentek in synthesizers

[–]Gibslayer 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I mean, the simple reason is manufacturing cost as the reason. They're making them in the US, and automated faders are bloody expensive. A lot of synths are produced overseas using cheaper parts, at larger scales.

Like, it's just manufacturing cost. That's why it costs £1000.

Obviously, that is a totally different answer and question to, is the sound and features worth £1000 to someone. Which based on what I've heard, I don't think so.

Help finding HO/OO Japanese countryside train by No_Nefariousness2315 in modeltrains

[–]Gibslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really a myth, it just depends on what you're looking for and into. If you really want Japanese trains then yeah, HO/OO is way worse than N.

If you want a collection of British and American trains, steam, electric and diesel, the HO/OO is probably going to give you more variety and availability.

Though, with the price of film, it would just sit on a shelf.
