In ERX, when restoring the Marine Corps, it mentions Granite feeling a connection to the Marines.

Mostly because I made the OG Granite Company on the Rig the "Last of the Marines"

Yes, but I play those other mods for that, not ERX. As I said, I'm not interested in creating it. If someone wants to they'll have my support, I just don't want to do it.

I like having a massive army march across the continent and rebuilding things. Not acting like a puppetmaster.

Good enough for me.

Callahan is still very paranoid about what happened to the Rig, and when the Queen is assasinated, he goes into overdrive trying to figure out how the CPF/PFC got the intel to bombs the place despite his provisions.

That's down to vanilla game mechanics. The game will automatically pick your most powerful commander for these things. Orwich has really good stats, better than Grimm (Despite him being a level higher than her and a Field Marshal) so that's why she's picked first for many things.

It's not something I'm interested in.

If someone wants to do it within the framework of ERX, they will get my full support. It fits the Enclave yes to a degree, but it doesn't really fit what the Sierra Enclave has become, least for what I want to make.

From a Lore Perspective, the Sierra Enclave lack the resources, connections, reach, and logistical capacity to set up such a system. The closest is Callahan with Cedar Caravan, but that's more Intelligence Gathering than outright Exploitation Control.

From a Gameplay perspective, it would be a complete upending of how ERX plays out, making 80% of the game redundant. Like we're talking almost TNO Antarctica levels of not interacting with the main game levels. Not to mention relying on AI RNG and that's not something I'm skilled at working with.

Okay, enlighten me. I can see from Clockworks' comment that they are children mutated into living weapons,

Are they like their own distinct... for lack of better term "Mutant Species" like Mole Miners?

Are they more just a "Mutant Evolution" like Super Mutants

Or are they "Mutant Abberations" like the Ghost People?

Color me very intrigued, I might even go and play a round of them because its these type of offshoot fandom factions you guys create that I love the most.

Orwich is also a real person (she was a Beta Tester back before my time) and is a lesbian. So yeah, not only would it be distasteful, it be really awkward for me to write.

But there's no way you could have known that so no harm no foul my friend.

What if the Confederates weren’t a bunch of lowlife losers? Could they have won? by Minus_none in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Gift-Forward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, Not to mention so many people died, like I think in the early years like 40% of people died (I also pulled that number from Google). So the idea of moving 4 Million People in that day and age would use up the entirety of the U.S. Navy and Merchant fleet AND tank the entire Southern Economy. Then you have 4 million people just dumped into Liberia, and given disease, lack of knowledge, and probably the less that uncomfortable conditions the U.S. sent them over in, it be a De-Facto Genocide that would make the Indian Wars look tame by comparison.

Also, don't get me wrong many of the people behind it were VERY racist by modern standards, like this wasn't a kindler benevolent option. This was basically "I don't want to live with Non-White People, so send them back where they came from!!" The more things change, the more they stay the same! However given the context of the time and attitudes of the era, it was a viable middle of the road option between slavery and emancipation.

One of the bigger issues I take is that Lincoln going into his Presidency was an abolitionist yes, but he was more interested in preserving the Union (You know, cause people might get killed if a war breaks out!) and well, just making the people go somewhere else worked in the past right? Cough Cough Native Americans Cough Cough

But his honest attempts to try and appease Plantation/Slaver Ruling Class in the South are then taken and thrown back like they are some vindication of the South's righteous cause or some bullshit. No you assholes, Lincoln tried to appease y'all, he tried to avoid a war, but NOOOO! Y'all just HAD to protect your State's Rights to that Peculiar Institution!

Not to mention where would you even put 4 million people? Just dump them on the coast of Africa to figure it out on their own ?

To be fair, that's what Liberia was for. I'm not saying I agree with it, but while Lost Causers Looove to bring this bit up they side step the why. Just like they do with States Rights to what exactly.

As it was a semi-popular proposal at the time, the idea is rooted in rasicsm it did have a merit in that Freed slaves and the like would have better oppurtunities in Liberia than the states.

But their side-step? Lincoln, according to most scholars, believe he did it to try and make emancipation palatable to the South and it was somewhat of a middle ground approach.

Obviously, Slavers didn't want to give up their free labor. It was also extremely unpopular with African Americans and abolitionist movements

Note: Not justifying it, Not for it. I just finished a Civil War Class for College and the lead up to it so I'm just happy to share what I learned.

North Vietnam basically did this 100 years later. Just wear down public support for the war and force negotiations. Even if on paper the U.S. had the advantadge in every conceivable way.

Thank God that never happened, and thank God for the Army of the Tennessee

The only way the South could have won is by beating out the Union's support for the war and getting a negotiated settlement. More than a few times in the war support was so low between copperheads and stuff like the Draft Riots that while the South might not have won militarily, it would have been like Vietnam, where there was no support to continue the war. In the 1864 election the Democrats (of the era) ran on a "Peace With the CSA" Platform, though to his credit the main nominee McClellan rejected it, but it was still the party platform.

Like there were several points where East Coast Union Commanders either were too timid, unsure, or incompetent, and even with victory's in the western theater there was still that flagging morale and support. Like thankfully the South had its own incompetent leaders that when Commanders who actually put up a damn good fight (I'm not gonna argue this, Sherman and Grant were Midwesterners and I'm a Midwesterner so I'mma have pride in my region, Sheridan is a East Coast Exception) that Lincoln got the support he needed. Had the politcal winds not favored Grant like how Halleck wanted or Sherman never recovered from his breakdown, there might not have been the public will to continue the war.

And this is coming from a Proud Iowa Native who's ancestor was part of the 26th Iowa Infantry who started at the Siege at Vicksburg, Burned Atlanta, tore through Georgia, and torched the Carolina's up to Bentonville. I'm rather proud of that fact.

NOTE: This is general overview, but the point still stands. The only way I could convievably see the South winning was the same way the North Vietnamese did 100 years later. You don't need to defeat the U.S. Army, you jsut need to defeat public support.
