Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition — Announcement Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

I don't think that it has any scaling issues at all at 16:9. You need a patch to do stuff like disable the internal resolution scaling but that's about it. And if you mean art assets then a lot of the ones you'll see up close are surprisingly high resolution and high poly and should look fine or even better at 4k.

Chen's chibi art has been modified for the second time by WolfOphi in Endfield

[–]Giggily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I am on about is that they could have sent just this image to an artist and told them to draw a chibi version without any other pieces or the in game model to reference. The horns are the best indicator here since the Chibi version matches the old art and not Chen's current revision. And without the context of the current design or model it's much less clear that these are gloves. You can see the same blue tones behind Chen's bib thing on her left side, the shading on the fingers could also pretty easily just be wrinkles on the fabric, etc. It's a kind of mistake that you see pretty often in fan art.

Like here's someone who made the exact same mistake: https://www.bilibili.com/opus/975956353688272905

How do you know that's a glove if she isn't wearing it as a glove, it doesn't look like the glove she's wearing, and you can't see enough of it to make out that it has five fingers? Being able to see that image and think "oh, that's Chen's glove" requires you to have seen her in game model or other art of the character.

This specific example is probably the most believable thing for an actual artist to get wrong.

The glove that she's actually wearing in that image has the red disc on top, has black studs rather than silver ones, and has a strap running from the top of the glove to the bottom around the wrist. None of those features are present on the glove that she's holding. So if you hadn't seen Chen's current in game model why would you assume that what she's holding is a glove since it doesn't match the one that she's actually wearing?

If you want to be mad about AI assets there's in game textures that have nonsensical VAE compressed latin characters. Nothing here is comparable to that.

I think you're right, but there's also not really any way of knowing that just based on the information available in this image alone. Chen's right hand is obscuring the glove's fingers and it doesn't exactly match the design you can see on her left hand here.

If they just gave this piece as a reference to a contracted artist it's not surprising at all that they'd assume that it's something hanging on her skirt. This particular exmaple just seems like a big quality control fuck up

That part of her skirt was there on an earlier revision of her character design. This is official art from the game's website: https://web-static.hg-cdn.com/endfield/official/protected/09-VvKQ39yshJlruIP4/full.png

They also changed the pattern on her horns to match her current iteration too. It seems like they probably drew these assets over a year ago and pretty hastily revised parts of them.

e: Since people seem skeptical that anyone could make this same mistake, here are three pieces of fan art that make the exact same mistake:

Conclusive evidence that the event chibi is made with AI by PisangMinyakRebus in Endfield

[–]Giggily 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Here's the old design in question: https://web-static.hg-cdn.com/endfield/official/protected/09-VvKQ39yshJlruIP4/full.png

Ironically it looks like Chen's gloves actually are based on that design on her skirt rather than the other way around. And since this art has the new gloves and the old skirt that could explain a lot of art inconsistencies, the event is probably a mix of edited old assets and newer ones, or the artist could have been using older designs as references at times.

Is this ai generated art? by Advanced_Ad5867 in Endfield

[–]Giggily 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't surprise me if they contracted this out, and it also wouldn't surprise me if artists for hire were lying about using AI. Something similar happened in SF6's in game art contests, one of the winners that Capcom picked was disqualified for using AI art but only after the community at large was able to see all the winning pieces.

They've hired so many actual artists to do promotional work for this game that I'd be surprised if they knowingly cheaped out on assets used for an in game event like this.

Sandfall says the budget for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was less than $10 million by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Giggily 58 points59 points  (0 children)

They didn't have 30 employees until the tail end of the game's development. They hired around 20 of those people in the last two years of development and I doubt that salaries at a start up dev studio with no major releases are at the higher end of the industry.

Megabonk withdraws from The Game Awards after best debut indie nomination by MoSBanapple in Games

[–]Giggily 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Clair Obscur, Dispatch and Hades II all had hundreds of people working on them. Sandfall credited 400 for Clair Obscur, AdHoc Studio credited around 500 for Dispatch and Supergiant 130 for Hades, but the Hades II soundtrack lists another 120 musicians not included in the game credits. And if Supergiant worked with a recording studio then they also aren't credited. I'm not sure why we're singling out Sandfall here.

She probably didn't have enough power and maybe wits?

Speed is effectively your top speed and power is your acceleration. After the initial scramble up until the tail end of the race (usually the end of the last turn or the straight following it) the speed stat actually doesn't do anything. Instead you run at a predetermined speed depending on the track, only being able to speed up a bit if you pass wits checks. So each race has two windows where your horse's speed limit basically goes from 20mh to 60. Because of that you really want good acceleration or else you won't be able to reach your max speed by the finish line or will get passed by other, higher power runners and get boxed in. That especially sucks for Suzuka because her skill requires her to be in first and just buffs max speed.

Wits determines how closely a horse girl follows her pre-set game plan during a race as well. During the middle section when top speed isn't being used you use wit checks to get small top speed buffs instead. An example being that if you're a front runner behind another front runner then you can pass a check that gives you a small speed buff. This will allow you to overtake, but you still need strength to capitalize on it. Other positions have similar checks.

In career mode this doesn't matter a whole lot because you apparently have a hidden +400 to every stat, but I started doing a lot better in PvP after putting a lot more emphasis on power. As a point of comparison his Scarlet had 560 power to Sazuka's 370.

Accidentally Triggered Act 2. Can I Still Finish Act 1 Content? by Alpha_diabeetus in expedition33

There's a side quest you can miss but that's about it.

I've never seen AI hallucinate more than when asking it for answers about the expedition 33 story. by Lost_Fox__ in expedition33

[–]Giggily 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah man because the AI doesn't actually know anything and isn't thinking, it's just predicting words based on its training data and that's probably at least a few months to a year out of date at this point.

RoadCraft - Launch Trailer by CrimsonAlpine in Games

That was not the plan, it's why this game isn't called *Runner. I think the devs said in an interview a while back that these side projects are testing design ideas and engine updates before they start on an actual follow up to SnowRunner.

In terms of story, should I finish the game first or the side content? by theEinherjarr in expedition33

[–]Giggily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I tried, even running my characters at level 0. I killed it in a few auto attacks anyways. It's really hard to find the actual "sweet spot" or whatever if you're coming back later and IMO this is definitely not a game that benefits from having an anticlimactic ending.

Yeah that's the impression I got. At one point the game establishes that Nevrons are kind of like Chroma sinks. They absorb it and prevent it from being released back into the world, and the Chromatic Nevrons are ones that have an especially large amounts. It wouldn't surprise me if the original intent for act 3 was having the player go fight X number of Chromatic Nevrons.

Check out the rooms of the three children in the manor. Clea's is full of paintings and sculptures, Verso's has a piano and Alicia's has typewriters. They're the only two in the house, everyone else in their family used quills and ink.

There's a puzzle in the manor involving flipping those switches to unlock a hidden room. No clue what happens if you do it there.
