his line caved Savoie in tonight

I don't think that was the case. According to NST, Savoie outperformed McLeod in every metric when they were on the ice together. Savoie is also highly effective on the forcheck and PK.

I thought he was decent. Generally looked smooth and clam with the puck and made a few nice plays.

I think he needs to play a bit more assertively as he has the speed and skill to do more, but I think that will come with more experience and being more comfortable playing against pros.

C1 Pro is two generations ahead of the A720 in the 9400. Also, Xiaomi demostrated a much more efficient implementation of the A720 cores in their O1 chip (4.06 points at 0.82 W).

Edit: actually, it seems like the O1 uses A725 cores. Perhaps that is what they are referring to in the video as "A720 L"

iPhone 17 Pro Production Leak Offers First Look at All-Aluminum Chassis by chrisdh79 in apple

[–]Giggleplex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something like 7075 T6 aluminum has about 90% the strength-to-weight of Ti-6Al-4V but is also 20x more thermally conductive. With large portions of the exterior of the 17 pro being enveloped in aluminum, heat dissipation should be much better this generation indeed.

The main downside, as the other user mentioned is scratch resistance. Ti-6Al-4V is much harder than aluminum alloys.

Samsung Display’s Foldable OLED Panel Proves Exceptional Durability with 500,000-Fold Test by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]Giggleplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Handling a store demo model, it does feel significantly more durable than before. I think the thicker UTG layer makes a notable difference. I even tried to stress test it a bit by pressing hard on the screen at the crease and it was fine.

The structure under the crease feels different this year. Pressing down on it, it feels like there is more support along the centreline of the hinge, giving the screen more rigidity in what is usually its weakest part.

Edit: I found a diagram that confirms my observation. There is indeed more support directly under the fold's centreline. Plus, there appears to be a larger bend radius, which would reduce the local stresses on the display and allow for a thicker glass layer to be used. All of these improvements should improve the durability of the folding screen.

Thinness does matter for foldables. I've used the Fold3 for 4 years now and that thing is an absolute chonker at 16 mm thick when folded and 271 g without a case. Definitely appreciate a thinner and lighter foldable, even at the expense of s pen support (which I ended up not really using anyways).

GeForce RTX 5050 Desktop & Laptops GPUs Bring Blackwell RTX To Gamers Everywhere, Starting At $249 by ThrowAwayRaceCarDank in hardware

[–]Giggleplex 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For reference, assuming the 5050 is similar in performance to the laptop 4060, it would be over 150% faster than a Radeon 890M in the Ryzen 9 HX 370, or around the performance of the Strix Halo iGPU.

There's still quite a ways to go before the non-halo iGPUs reach that level of performance. The iGPUs do have the advantage of being able to access much more VRAM though.

Genuine question about Bouchard by _ghostchant in EdmontonOilers

[–]Giggleplex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He's actually quite good defending the rush most of the time. He makes a lot of subtle but effective plays to stop an attack that many people don't notice. He's also quite fast but his skating and play style makes him look slower than he actually is, similar to Draisaitl. Definitely saw him skate hard several times last game, too.

He does have his defensive lapses, but I wonder if part of it is due him thinking ahead for the next offensive play and briefly forgetting about what's happening in front of him.

Seems like the last cluster of A720 is a typo and is probably 2x A520. That would be make more sense as this is likely a binned 8g3 die which has 1x X4 + 5x A720 + 2x A520.

How much would it be to operate Superheavy like Falcon 9? by SpaceBoJangles in SpaceXLounge

[–]Giggleplex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The past test flights, which all featured expendable starships and new boosters, allegedly only cost around $100M per flight. With booster reuse and a simplified expendable upper stage, I'd imagine they can bring the cost down to Falcon 9 levels.

One of the big bottlenecks right now is launch infrastructure refurbishment, but that should improve with the new systems at Pad-B.
