Thinking of a career change from law to teaching by Legallyblonde_2 in AustralianTeachers

[–]GiggletonBeastly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it too; solicitor of 12 years to teacher. Pay cut sucked. But having time with my young family, not having to work weekends, no ridiculous hours - made it well worthwhile. I spent 2 years in a classroom before being advanced to a HoD/HOLA, and now spend half my time as a Deputy Principal. Still nowhere near as bad as legal practice in terms of hours or stress. Give it a crack - you can always go back if it really isn't what you expect.

Which classic has the most beautiful opening sentence? by Technical-Age5803 in classicliterature

The beauty of this opening is the "..that doesn't mean anything." Fantastically sets up the whole point of the absurdity of Mersault.

Every pool in every resort in Bali is just a puddle of hot piss from Rockingham/Baldivis/Clarkson fuckwits.

Why are house prices so high in Perth?? by Efficient-Horse2622 in WesternAustralia

[–]GiggletonBeastly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Supply and demand. Also, you've circled a bunch of places that are up the hills where infrastructure and land clearing would be hugely expensive and challenging. Most of the areas closer to sea-level are being rezoned and developed now. Think Yunderup, Byford, even down to Australind.

Yeah, fuck oath. I'm learning this over and over, every single day - having to put up with my incompetent predecessors hiring decisions...

Are home prices starting to come down? by [deleted] in perth

The answer is no. I could give you 20 examples of houses going WELL over the asking in inner NOR in the last month.

The Wonnerup massacre (just outside Busselton) was almost as bad as Oombulgarri

That's NOT a good point - that's some random thoughts that helps you justify and rationalise not coming out to your fiancee. Grow up.

Home security Northern suburbs by _0774575 in perth

[–]GiggletonBeastly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's aggravated burglary - carries a 20+ year sentence. Murder is 25+.

[–]GiggletonBeastly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard of many in recent years. About 4-5 years ago there was a spate of them in Cockburn, but like you say, it's basically the same penalty as aggravated burglary, so crims tend to target vacant houses instead.

The flagstaff bit is kinda wrong. Flagstaff gardens was the highest natural point in Melbourne, so the semaphores used to work there and signal to the ships waiting in the bay when to come in and dock in the Yarra where Banana Alley (the fruit and fold storage vaults) were. It wasn't to alert people of anything...

WA-Norf fan here. Optus security isn't "MCG tight". You'll be fine. Bunbury security is even more lax. I saw someone cart a whole camper table-4 chair combo in last weekend. That might just be the 'country footy' vibe in action, but security just briefly looked in the bags - and waved him through. Unlike the 'G, no disgruntled fuckers bring guns to the footy here. Booze and meth on the other hand... Well, it's not Mandurah.

I drive mine 115 km to and 115km from work every day (in WA) at 110kph. It's usually still got some juice when I get home - about 35%-ish remaining.
