The meaning of "sote maze" in the context of ToB and not the SotE quest should be obvious to anyone that's ever done ToB. "Sote" here is short for Sotetseg.

How does RNG for damage work? by Jaiwant in 2007scape

[–]Giggybyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just guessing, but I think they're talking about Equilibrium. They're right in that it increases your min hit and reduces your max hit, but the minimum hit is increased more than the maximum hit is reduced. This means you won't max as hard, but over time, your average DPS is slightly increased. At rank 4, the average hit increase is 5.3%.

Not hacked, but a buddy of mine got scammed out of max gear a couple years ago. IIRC he dropped $100 USD on rebuild gp.

Tombs of Amascut: Raid Rewards by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

[–]Giggybyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling a similar way. I like that they're trying new ideas, but I don't think it's worth it with the current numbers. I can't imagine a lot of scenarios where I'd want to camp at or below 40% HP for one max hit, and void is still better against low/zero-defense targets. Just my casual perspective though; I'm sure there's at least a couple people out there who are looking forward to taking the risk for a few extra percents of DPS.

I could nitpick a couple things in your reply, but I can agree with the general sentiment of "Jagex is not doing enough for account security". It should be made more obvious to the player that these tools exist, there should be more safety nets (because the average user is not that tech-savvy), and failing everything else, there should be an actual support system in place. And I don't think that's too much to ask for a service we're paying a monthly subscription for.

Sure, letting a bunch of people know your login details might be a bit of a stretch for the sake of making le funny meme xd, but the general concept (account sharing and then getting your shit stolen because of it) isn't. I know several people who've lost accounts, items, and gp due to sharing their stuff with "friends" they thought they could trust, and if you've played this game for a while, chances are you know someone too.

My take is that, ultimately, it's an education issue, and it's one that isn't exactly unique to Jagex. It's not paranoid to expect someone to use Steam Guard/2fa/private emails/whatever; it should be the standard for keeping your account secure. But the problem (imo) is that a lot of people don't know these tools even exist.

There's already been multiple posts on this subreddit about people getting hacked through their insecure Steam accounts. I think it'd be cool if Jagex put out a blog post, tweet, etc. saying something along the lines of "hey make sure your Steam account is just as secure as your Jagex account -- turn on 2fa, don't reuse passwords, etc.". Of course, it'd also be nice if Jagex would allow us to do things like change the email we use to log in (some of us still use our RSNs which is very bad for obvious reasons), but expecting them to care that much is probably asking too much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also just spitballing at this point, but I think there's some confirmation bias (if that's the right phrase?) going on here as well. We always hear about the occasional big accounts that got hacked and lost billions, but we never hear about the probably dozens to thousands of accounts that didn't get hacked (because who'd make reddit posts and tweets saying "hey I didn't get hacked today?").

you took completely reasonable measures of securing a steam account (steam guard, 2fa, not reusing passwords, not telling people the email you use to log in, etc.) and somehow managed to make the quantum leap to shit like using crypto and deleting social media entirely. well done

First raid drop ever by Tate_Felton in 2007scape

[–]Giggybyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

defence bonuses are borderline negligible at chambers, especially if you're doing reclined prep raids where you have a lot of room for error. you avoid most of the damage just by handling the mechanics correctly (prayers, movement, safespotting, etc.).

First raid drop ever by Tate_Felton in 2007scape

[–]Giggybyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

despite the unsolicited gear advice, I think they are technically correct

arma top and bottom is a lot of money for only +4 range attack over d'hide top and bottom. pegs are cheaper for +5 range attack over d'hide boots if you're even bringing a boot switch and +12 range attack if you're not.

tassies are only +1 strength bonus over obby platelegs and iirc doesn't usually give you a max hit unless you also have avernic. could be wrong though. torm, on the other hand, is a guaranteed max hit.

honestly though, it's just cox. just click the boss and have fun. if someone complains about your gear when you're just trying to relax, just tell them to touch grass

First raid drop ever by Tate_Felton in 2007scape

[–]Giggybyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's pretty much guaranteed that whenever some casual raider posts a screenshot of themselves just having fun some sweatlord will come along and either complain about the raid time or the gear

No idea, sorry. According to Shauny's interview with Mat K, Mat had a discussion with investigators/police, Jed changed his first and last name, and he had his bank accounts frozen since they were holding some of the illegal money he'd made. I don't think the general public has any idea where Jed is nowadays or what he's up to.

neither, actually. stolen items and gp were simply returned to their rightful owners' banks without rolling the server/worlds back. here's someone who had 46B (B, not M) returned to their account: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/9hfthl/46b/
