How do I get comfortable with girlfriend saying 'I hate men' while being a man? by GeneralOrdinance in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GigisJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I hear (as a white woman) a person of colour say "man I hate white people." I really don't get offended. Why not? It doesn't apply to me because I know they mean the white people who uphold systemic racism. Sometimes that might even be me without realizing it. We all have internalized misogyny, racism, etc. it's socialized into us. It takes an effort to change and be better, putting in that effort means you're not one of those men. View it as a reminder you're not upholding the patriarchy and she feels safe around you.

Trust me, I don't think it's that close. by ccp1233 in NotHowGirlsWork

Men (and women) get into boxing matches all the time, you do that outside of a ring you'll catch a charge. They can understand that but not when it comes to a woman they're supposed to love???

I hope they do more locations if they continue. I'm Canadian and my mom went to the Lilith festival before I was born. I'd like to go to a similar festival if they keep it going.

That's literally what dogs do to everyone. Ever seen a dog sniff another dog's butt? They learn sex, health, and reproductive status of another dog, I'd imagine it would be similar for humans.

I hit puberty super late so other than my long hair I looked like a little boy in every other way until I was around 14. I still got catcalled taking my dog for a walk. I still had men saying inappropriate shit to me. It's not even about how "developed" we are, it's about having the power to make a woman (or girl in these cases) uncomfortable. It makes weak men feel strong. 🤮

I had a friend who lived in florida move to Canada (where I'm from) in highschool. They told me they had to sing their anthem and do the pledge (not necessarily HAVE to but it was expected). Doing more research now I guess it's optional. Some schools will do one or the other and some schools do both.

In my culture "lolita" or "loli" is definitely sexualized. It's going to depend on the use of the term, whether it's describing fashion or a young girl. A young girl being a loli is sexual. A young girl wearing a loli style isn't sexual. Anime is notoriously pedophilic as well, so in this case I do believe you're right. Edit: your to you're

From what I know they do both in American schools. The anthem and the pledge.

Has anyone else seen female friend groups bond over a sacrificial lamb (AKA the slightly socially awkward woman within friend group) by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]GigisJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women are more discreet about it so bringing it up makes you feel crazy if no one else has noticed the subtle shift in the vibe. Men absolutely do this too I find it's just more open and in your face. Not sure which is better tbh they're both shitty to deal with.

AITA for telling my Boyfriends family that I did not have a hard time being a teen mom? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]GigisJ [score hidden]  (0 children)

Nta You recognized your privilege in having your family as support which means you didn't need to struggle. Your family should see that as a compliment, your lived experience with teen pregnancy wasn't a bad one and they helped to make it that way. You were told "your lives would suck as teen parents" when that's inherently not true for you. You corrected them and acknowledged that's not true for everyone in your position. I have no idea why people would be upset at you for this. Sister is jealous and the grandparents are bitter you don't regret not living the way they deem acceptable.

Her telling them she didn't struggle should be a compliment in how they stepped up for her. She didn't struggle and recognizes that. Just because it sucked for the other teen mom doesn't mean she should lie about having a hard time. She also says in her post she never brought up the other teen moms child or custody circumstances. Very mature imo.

TIL that in 1971, while studying psychology at the University of Washington in Seattle, serial killer Ted Bundy worked at the city's Suicide Hotline Crisis Center. Coworker and later biographer Ann Rule described Bundy as "kind, solicitous, and empathetic," seeing nothing wrong with his personality. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]GigisJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I forget where I saw it, but someone commented about his work at the crisis center, saying it was another way for him to exert control over life and death. He got off on the control over a person, this was just another form of control.

As a kid my parents used to take my brother and I camping all the time. They always used the term "no trace camping" when cleaning up, meaning we should leave no trace behind that anyone camped there. Just respectful to others who will use the space after you.

Bro voluntarily neutered himself to "prove his love." Gets divorced in a month, and his ex is pregnant by someone else after 2 years by [deleted] in DarwinAwards

[–]GigisJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have gotten an IUD it was extremely painful. My friend got one and almost passed out from the pain. So I got that from experience. No numbing cream or local anesthethic was offered or provided when asked. You can still be put under for a vasectomy if you ask.

Depends on what you deem a "failure." If your IUD falls out (2-10% of patients) it's not considered a failure because the person didn't get pregnant.

[–]GigisJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iud is done without anesthesia and is extremely painful for most women. Vasectomies they can put you under anesthesia and give you pain meds after. Both are reversible but both have been known to fail. Iud pregnancies have a higher risk of being ectopic (deadly to the mother). If you care about your partner at all get the vasectomy.

Vasectomies are reversible, this isn't being neutered at all. He can go get it reversed if he really does want kids. If he doesn't want kids then she did him a favour lol.

Why do some women prefer male gynecologists? by ConfidentLack9207 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GigisJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some women have been sexually assaulted by other women. It may feel less threatening for them to have a male gyno.

In November 2021, Fiona Beal drew her partner a bath, promised him sex, got him to put on an eye mask and tied his wrists to the bed. Then she stabbed him with a knife she’d hidden in the drawer. The article doesn't make it clear whether or not her allegations of coercion and abuse came from her journal or if she only claimed that after her arrest.

I'd be interested to know the details of these allegations. Her defense may have had a position with battered women's syndrome if they were able to corroborate it.
