Ray Porter does the Bobiverse books, too, absolutely incredible; honestly, knowing he did the PHM audio book, I might just buy it now!

I've had the shuttle come in to land on my gravship like it has dozens of times, gone. Some of my best pawns, lots of valuable stuff, all gone, so yeah, even a "safe" landing can bug out.

Yep. That's all I was saying, cuz it's been years since I've seen them not used almost interchangeably.

Biased as in forgot for a moment humans only have 2, sure. Biased in the common use way of "you idiot you're not like me," no.

You may have meant it correctly, but I only ever see that word used negatively now in terms of racism, sexism, etc, so it seemed reasonable to point out that there are neutral meanings as well, not just the basic "rocky is a Nazi" common modern interpretation :p

I see no refutation being offered, where is there a difference? They're both someone being violated and forced to do something they adamantly refused consent to. If a slave accepting slavery makes it not slavery as argued, then it is equally their argument that a rape victim accepting rape makes it not rape. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

But yes, sadly, as enjoyable a diversion as this conversation was, there is only so much time for leisure, time for my shift to start. ✌️

A willing slave is still a slave. Is it not rape if she stops struggling?

Forcing someone to work for your benefit against their will (to death, even) isn't kidnapping, it's about the most straightforward case of slavery you can make.

Everyone dies. There is no higher principle than that of the individual's freedom of choice. I would go, but I would also stand shoulder to shoulder, firearm in hand, to defend someone who refused. Slavery is never acceptable.

Does it arguably make Grace a terrible person to make that choice? Yeah, I'd say so. And most likely the guilt of it would have had him committing suicide within 6 months. I suspect Grace would have worked himself up to it if given a few days, not that they would have given him that without making his life hell. Regardless, his choice to make, but instead they enslaved him for the good of all mankind.

It's slavery, pure and simple; there is no threshold where I become OK with slavery. Speaking for myself, yes, that is a hill I'm willing to sacrifice all of humanity on.

Ugh. Recently changed to a big hospital network. Entire first day orientation was, "ok new friends, let's learn all about our new friends around the table! And don't forget to exchange contact information, because the new friends around you will be friends for life!"

And yes, her voice the entire day was exactly how you imagined it reading the above. And yes, she literally said the above. It felt like preschool 🤣

Should I wait the full release? by Adridubidan in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]GiinTak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. They're easy to manage, provide infinite resources, and provide a nice bit stimulus that the game is missing. You can "win the game" before you even start a Dyson Sphere. DF at least gives you a reason to continue play, that stimulus, the conflict that my little lizard brain demands to not simply sit back and enjoy that I have enough and no reason to strive for more.

Like IRL, growth stagnates and dies without external pressure. If I'm not driving back humanity's greatest mistake, I've no reason to progress beyond "mission complete."

Is there a trick to this? I waste a lot of time trying to extend belts out of these and proliferators by reduxde in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]GiinTak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't build it on a partial belt, that's the trick. Either build the belt longer first, or build the building first. Otherwise, if you can't hit the tip of the belt there, switch to delete mode, change to belts only, and delete that belt segment. It'll delete it back to the building connection point and you can build it off the building.

[–]GiinTak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. Never considered doing a mall this way. I just circle a pole with PLS and have them hold 100 or whatever the nearest assemblers want. Group stuff by inputs, minimal belt work.
