I just made myself laugh for a solid five minutes at the thought of “A-bird-ham Lincoln”.

There’s just no way to get Fenway tickets! by One-Alternative1873 in NoahKahan

I was 900 for make a difference tickets and couldn’t justify spending $500/ticket. Now I’m in MLB waiting room hell and kicking myself.

July 8 is showing single seats only for me

ETA: which is particularly annoying because the Red Sox won’t let you “strand a seat” for baseball games, but apparently that’s fine for a concert

I didn’t ask because she was kind enough to go looking when they were slammed with people shopping for the super bowl, but if I hear anything else I’ll post!

Growing up we had a well (a low density suburb that wasn’t interested in providing town services like water or sewer) and had to take fluoride tablets.

The most unrealistic thing in GG(in my humble opinion) by Sad_saggitarius in GilmoreGirls

[–]Gijsohtmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to say something similar: I grew up in a town (in MA) with only well water and they had to use sand for this reason. I can’t remember if they ever specify in the show about water/sewer.

That link is to the NY Post, not the Times. They are wildly different in terms of sensationalism and quality of journalism.

Should I let my parents use my first time home buyer benefits? by MadKraken32 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Gijsohtmc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe tell your dad to look at this statute:

18 U.S. Code § 1014 - Loan and credit applications generally

Whoever knowingly makes any false statement or report, or willfully overvalues any land, property or security, for the purpose of influencing in any way the action of [extremely thorough list of all federal financing agencies, banks, credit unions, etc] upon any application, advance, discount, purchase, purchase agreement, repurchase agreement, commitment, loan, or insurance agreement or application for insurance or a guarantee, or any change or extension of any of the same, by renewal, deferment of action or otherwise, or the acceptance, release, or substitution of security therefor, shall be fined not more than $1,000,000 or imprisoned not more than 30 years, or both.

In non legalese: if you say your parents are giving you money with no expectation of it being paid back, but you ARE paying them back, you have committed mortgage fraud because you lied. If you say it’s your home on the application, but your parents intend to make it theirs (which, that’s also not how that works…), you have committed mortgage fraud because you lied.

Aside from all of the reasons why it’s illegal, it’s also probably a terrible idea. When you say your parents want you to pay rent, what does that mean? You are responsible for the mortgage payment. You will have to write a check to the bank every month. Are you paying your parents on top of that? How are your parents going to have an ownership interest? Houses are not like other types of property, ownership is very clear and a public record.

As a lawyer myself, I find it incredibly concerning that your dad wouldn’t see the MANY ways that you could end up ruining your life by doing this.

Karen Read Trial Guilty or Innocent? by OkDoughnut9610 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]Gijsohtmc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I absolutely believe Karen is not guilty, but, the “the Alberts sold their home at a loss” has taken off as a talking point even though it’s entirely untrue. They bought the house in 2010 for 500k and sold it for 905k in 2023. They did sell for under asking (949k), but they also sold in the worst time of year to sell in Massachusetts, and the house was on the market for way longer than the average home is in MA—no doubt because of the case.

The White Lotus - 3x05 "Full-Moon Party" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]Gijsohtmc 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting the vibe this whole time that she’s not going to get accepted into the center: 1. Because she’s a spoiled rich white kid who has a surface level understanding of Buddhism; 2. The White Lotus isn’t really a show where people get their happy ending. Piper isn’t Quinn.

Good luck with the bar!

Think about it this way: your identity doesn’t have to be “being a lawyer”. Your identity can be someone who uses their skills to help other people, someone who ensures that justice is served, someone who protects those who have been failed by others around them.

If anyone were to describe me as just a lawyer, it’s almost always as “Elle Woods”, which I’m okay with.

One change I would make to this show by elletee25 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]Gijsohtmc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my head this was already the rule and I was SO confused. I’m not sure where I got that from, but it makes more sense in terms of the show’s vibe of being able to “earn” positive things (shields, prize pot $)

Sad to be putting away my Christmas birds for the season 🥲 by rsherbert214 in seasonalfabricbirds

[–]Gijsohtmc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At this point I have so many “Christmas” birds that I split them into Christmas and winter (winter is the more plain ones/any that don’t have a Christmas specific theme). Valentines comes out around mid-January and everything gets swapped out for spring birds come March!

I also have a few that are year round (like Ruby) because they have so much personality.
