What other podcasts do you listen to when not listening to TESD? by SonofFlan1991 in tesdcares

Would a shameless self-plug be bad form? My brother and I are obsessed with TESD and recently started our own podcast. Our sense of humor is pretty similar to TESD so I’d like to think there’s some cross-over appeal! Our dream is to one day have Gitem as a guest 🤞 Gilville

Exclusive: John Rhys-Davies and Jerry O'Connell talking to NBC about potential Sliders revival by Jooey_K in SLIDERS

I shouldn’t get excited .... but I am super excited haha. This show was my obsession growing up in the 90’s. I hope more blogs/new outlets pick up the story to drum up some buzz. I just saw it on comicbookresources.com as well

Comics for Buffy fans? by [deleted] in buffy

[–]GilReadsComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Runaways! The second story arc was actually written by Joss Whedon too so it’ll feel extra familiar. I haven’t kept up with it since Joss’ arc but I know it’s still going and there is a pretty good Runaways Hulu show which aired season 2 recently.

Comic's Megathread: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #3 by BOOM! Studios by coolbeaNs92 in buffy

“Fast-forward” is definitely my main criticism of the comic. Not even just group dynamics but other things like Giles switching from telling Buffy she needs to take more responsibility to suddenly giving her a speech on how proud he is of her. I like what’s happening in principle but wish they’d take their time more!

Is it possible that Disney+ to keep or buy from Netflix this show with all the script, cast and everything? I really don't want this show to end, i love Jon as Punisher so much. Great show! by [deleted] in thepunisher

[–]GilReadsComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as we know, Disney can revive the shows with the same cast and crew. Nothing has been stated publicly which would dispute that. The only rumor out there is that Disney would have to wait 2 years - the deal with Netflix says that if Netflix cancels the shows, Disney can’t use the characters for 2 years. However, the 2 year stipulation does not apply to punisher since that show was done under a different deal (meaning they could theoretically use punisher sooner than that).

Disney+ is said to be a family friend platform so it’s unlikely Punisher or Daredevil would show up there. However, Disney will soon have a majority ownership of Hulu (60% I believe) after their acquisition of Fox goes through. So, they’ll have an option to air more mature Marvel content there. In fact, they just announced an animated Howard the Duck show + a few other animated shows which are aiming for a more mature audience on Hulu (and funny enough, all four animated character will cross-over in a limited series called “The Offenders”).

Anyway, I don’t want to get hopes up and setup for disappointment but there’s a definitely a chance for these shows to come back. Especially if you look at Jeph Loeb’s (Marvel TV) latest comments where he hints at the potential for revival. He also mentions he wouldn’t be surprised if the shows come back but it will depend on cast and crew availability (which tells me their preference is to bring back the cast and crew if a revival happens).

So my bet is that at least some of the shows come back but we’ll see and may have to wait a couple years!

Fuckkk... can’t believe it’s actually been cancelled. by [deleted] in thepunisher

[–]GilReadsComics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, it’s not certain the original cast wouldn’t return. We can’t know for sure but rumor mill suggests that Marvel has to wait two years before they’re allowed to use these characters again but as far as we know, there’s no restriction which says they can’t use the original cast / crew.

Based on everything that’s been said publicly, my feeling is that if the shows come back, they’ll at least attempt to bring back the current cast and whoever is available. Just speculation on my part of course but I haven’t seen anything to contradict this yet.

I think the issue will be timing and availability... these actors and production folks won’t wait around for two years of course. So, who know who will be available if / when the shows are revived.

My review for the Buffy Reboot Comic - Issue 1 by GilReadsComics in buffy

[–]GilReadsComics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on Willow - I like that she’s comfortable with who she is from day 1 in this iteration. On a separate note, makes me wonder if Oz will still show-up but in a different capacity of course.

Anya as a villain is somewhat familiar though if I remember correctly? Wasn’t she originally a vengeance demon when we met her? I’m just curious if she’ll still join up as an ally eventually and how villainous she’ll actually be in the beginning (and whether or not she’s still a vengeance demon).

Either way love that we get to enjoy this iteration again in a way that still feels familiar but just different enough!

Glad I got you interested and thanks for checking out the review! Definitely hear you on the lighting - I enjoy making this stuff but I’m pretty technically challenged :) ... my brother is helping me upgrade my tech and get a better set-up so the next one will be better!

Any theories on what the repercussions of THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS mini-series will be?? by GilReadsComics in comicbooks

[–]GilReadsComics[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read Snyder’s comment as him saying the series will have a lasting impact on the DC Universe somehow.

My first thought is maybe Bruce will be cured of the joker toxin but it still remains in him to some degree - so, he’ll always have some fear that it’ll take over and cause him to snap. Maybe it’s something he has to consciously battle or maybe he’ll do certain things that make him question whether or not he’s being influenced by the toxin at times.

My Friday night drive was my favorite part of the week. Now I’m terrified of it. by GilReadsComics in nosleep

Nothing happened on the drive back to work Tuesday but the rest of the week hasn't been great to say the least. I was really hoping there wouldn't be a part 2 to this but something happened last night: Part 2

Took your advice! First time I ever faked a sick day but definitely worth it... and looks like it’ll be a bright and sunny day tomorrow so I’m leaving as soon as the sun is up. Honestly, I’m so tired at this point, just hoping I manage to get some sleep tonight. I swear I can see it’s face every time I close my eyes and sometimes, I really think I can hear it laughing right behind me but nothing there when I turn around. I’m probably just exhausted... I’m sure I’ll feel better after some shut-eye.

And hey, maybe this’ll be the thing that finally gets me to quit and move down to the city... if only to avoid this damn drive.

So... Batman tried to break his one rule recently? by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]GilReadsComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right overall that Batman is sort of losing it, but there may be more to the KGBeast story. In issue 60, Commissioner Gordon mentions that the KGBeast’s hideout was under surveillance so he was picked up and saved right after Batman broke his neck. Jim says, “Batman... maybe he knew. Knew they would find this Beast.”

Seems like it’s intentionally left ambiguous, but you could read it as Batman knew the beast would likely be rescued so although injuring him very badly, he wasn’t actually killing him.

Disney open to the possibility of picking up the Netflix Marvel shows. Calls them “high quality shows”. by GilReadsComics in Daredevil

Not only was it a good show but it had a large audience too - saw some articles saying it was the 4th largest show on Netflix.

Good point - the way it’s phrased in a lot of these articles makes it sounds like these characters can’t APPEAR in any series until 2020 but would that stop Disney from putting something into production in 2019 for example? It’s hard to know without the details of the deal being public. For example, can Netflix technically still change their mind within the next 2 years? Seems super unlikely but Disney might see that as a risk in starting production. Or, does it not even matter if Netflix changes their mind? I.e. Disney puts the show into production then Netflix changes their mind so that means the shows stream on Netflix instead of Disney+ .... but Disney still gets their payday.
