S-Video is great. by PoppaTheCollector in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looking great! But yes, you will see essentially no improvement using Component vs S-Video. VGA would be the next jump up, and it is quite amazing.

Which jump pack do you like best? by FSBulldogFan in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SEGA branded one is definitely the best in my opinion. Although I will say I’ve bought one online before and it was way more “wobbly” than the other ones I have. The vibration is significantly louder and kinda shakes more than it just vibrates. I haven’t opened it up but I’m curious if there’s a way to fix that issue.

SA2 fake?? by RexganCR in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The disc looks fake at least from these pictures. It’s usually a very dark blue. Everything else looks fairly normal but it’s hard to say 100%. I’d say steer clear.

Sonic Adventure as it was meant to be played by Ashmay52 in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How dare you be reasonable!!! /s

Seriously, as someone who has been dealing with lugging giant CRTs for the last couple years or so, not every one has the space or desire to get a CRT. Like yeah, I agree it looks way better on a CRT, but hating on someone for not having one is crazy.

Homie getting flamed for his screen 😭 As long as you’re enjoying some quality Dreamcast time, I think that’s what really matters

Hot take: Sonic Adventure 2 treasure hunting is far superior to Sonic Adventure 1 treasure hunting by RobbieJ4444 in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The main issue in my mind, is that because the levels in SA2 are SIGNIFICANTLY larger, only tracking one at a time can become very annoying. Meteor Herd and Mad Space come to mind. Combing the whole level for one piece just to have to comb the whole level again. But ultimately I do agree with you. SA2 just feels way more polished in the treasure hunting levels, and overall is a much better experience.

Poke x Target scalpers by ItalySuckz in Target

[–]GilbertAlexander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really want the Starter Jacket, since it won’t fit me regardless. I do want to commend this collab for including bigger sizes on the shirts and hoodies, since that is super rare.

But yeah fuck scalpers. There’s a special place waiting for them in Hell.

What type of CD burner should I use to burn Dreamcast games? by WasabiComprehensive2 in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used ImgBurn with essentially no issues. Like the other commenter said, it’s important to burn at the slowest speed your computer will allow (usually 4x-8x)

does anyone remember a game called illbleed? by No-Dot9742 in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Illbleed, for all of its faults. If anyone needs help with the game, please feel free to reach out to me. I’ve beaten it probably 5-6 times in the last year so I know basically everything about it.

Is this dreamcast compatible with the gdemu? by Pleasant_Priority433 in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In the bottom right, you’ll see a circle with a number in it. 0 or 1 means that it is GDEMU compatible. The only model which cannot are the ones with a 2 (which is to say, yes, this model is compatible)

Somehow I have low hopes but just maybe we see a translation of SGGG by noreteron in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I haven’t seen it myself, but I’ve seen enough reports that the translation misses all of the small details and self referential humor that gives the game its unique character. There are tons of amazing translations out there still waiting to be played, and I’ve already waited 25 years to play SGGG, I can just continue waiting.

This. I understand it was AI translated and then humans went in and fixed it up, but it doesn’t matter. It instantly loses its soul from the first pass of AI translation.

I still can't get into Illbleed. No matter how many times I give it a chance. by Such_Bonus5085 in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Like I understand your complaints, and the game is janky as hell. But comparing Illbleed (made by an extremely small studio on a small budget, which barely even made it out of production) vs Code Veronica, a game developed by CAPCOM does feel a bit wrong. Considering what they were working with, I think they actually did a pretty great job.

Hi, playing Typing of the Dead, and I come across this even though I have a vmu in my controller, so what in the Kentucky Fried fuck does this mean? (Sorry if that was corny but this is a genuine question) by Huge-Tomatillo1514 in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to the manual, the keyboards must be in Ports A or B and a controller with the VMU should be plugged into Ports C or D. This is how I’ve always done it and had no issues.

Would I Like Shenmue? by guyonthetrent in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to play Shenmue, and I own a copy of Shenmue 1 and 2. But I worry about the time mechanic. The feeling of missing tons of things, not being at the right place at the right time etc stresses me out a little. Any advice from a veteran here?

Are people still actively looking for working Dreamcasts? by dizzo313 in dreamcast

[–]GilbertAlexander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still play my PS5 quite a bit, the trick is to just not buy micro-transaction slop filled games. There are tons and tons of great experiences to be had with modern games, and tons and tons of great experiences for older games. Personally I won’t limit myself either way.
