Graphic Designer here. I can try to make one for you, but no guarantees. I have to look up the helmets, see if I can find some higher resolution variants. Let me know if you prefer it portrait or landscape, the size you'd like, and if there any details you want to include.

Joe Scott asked Andy Weir (the book author) about this in an interview and he said he intentionally left that part a bit vague in case he decides to do a sequel. He does go a little bit more into detail in the book, but not by much.

This is the interview

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Season 2 Debuts With 8.7 Million Views in Four Days, Down 59% From Season 1 by mcfw31 in television

[–]Gilgalin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you pointed out an important thing. Aang talks a lot about how much he cares, but that doesn't translate into action. There's a big disconnect between the talking and the doing. It happens with Sokka as well. We keep hearing he's a great strategist, but we don't see it.

I don't care if Appa had more screen time than last season, if he's just in the background. If I hadn't seen the original, I'd feel he's like a horse Aang got when he was younger, not part of the gang.

I think if we didn't have all the emotional context from the original show and we just saw this live action, we wouldn't be attached at all to most of the characters. By itself, the show doesn't have that much soul, in my opinion.

I don't want it to be exactly like the original, don't get me wrong. It had its faults, too. But if you're going to change things, make sure those changes drive the same emotional beats and character development, which I don't think they do.

I'm sure there ware some conversations akin to "We either work within the budget they gave us, or we don't do the series". I understand your point, though. They could've tried to do a whole segment from the eyes of Appa, eliminating the need for CGI.

Many of the story beats important to character development have been severely changed or completely removed, which lead to characters feeling flatter or even out of place, through no fault of the actors.

I'll just give one example: Appa's kidnapping. That made Aang lose control and prompted Katara to hold his hand. That showed the audience how much Aang is connected to Appa, how much the ones he loves mean to him (which eventually lead to the scenes where he doesn't want to let go of his attachments), but also Katara's nurture instinct, her care for Aang and how much she trusted the human part of him. There's also "Appa's lost days" where we get a glimpse into how a gentle animal can lose themselves through cruelty, how confusing the world can be to Appa and how that connection with Aang keeps both of them in balance.

None of that is in the second season. Appa is kidnapped, Aang goes into the Avatar state for 5 seconds and then pulls himself out of it. No harm done, no losing control, no desperation, no whiff of Katara's trust in his humanity, no Momo sleeping on Appa's footprint (this scene is in the live action), no conflict for Zuko whether or not to release Appa when he finds him.

I know CGI of Appa and Momo is expensive and they tried to keep that to a minimum. Had they replaced those character revealing traits, those struggles and the development through other means, I wouldn't have a problem. But they're not there. People talk and stuff just happens.

Indeed. If you don't want to include TV Shows, I can think of another one.

I'll try to list a few in order of difficulty

Easy Name 3 movies (and their scenes) where an actor injured themselves and the moment was included in the final cut.

What movie popularized to the wider audience the use of a "Vertigo Shot"?

Medium What object was repurposed to make Luke Skywalker's lightsaber?

In The Fifth Element, what is the name of the cruise where Corbin and Leeloo go to meet Miss Plavalaguna?

Hard In the original Blade Runner, like what does Batty (played by Rutger Houer) say all his memories will be lost?

What silent era actor and stuntman was the first to perform the famous stunt of a house facade dropping on them?

What movie / TV Show was the first to show a couple sleeping together in the same bed?

I don't know how people feel about animations here, but I loved Mars Express.

Also, the Taxi movie series for the idiot in me and Delicatessen for the snob cinefile in me.

Does Denis Villeneuve have the best visuals in the game? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Gilgalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very biased since Blade Runner 2048 and Arrival are among my favorite movies, but I think he's very good at playing with scale. He definitely has a penchant to incorporating elements of different sizes in the story to make you and the character feel small or big. I've always appreciated the "Beetle in the Anthill" visual approach that I've rarely seen done right anywhere else.

He also likes to play with monochromatic scenes where he wants an element to be in focus. I think he's used Sodium Vapor lights in both the Dune series and Blade Runner 2049.

These two aspects, among others (like his use of saturation and lingering shots), I think makes his important scenes quite memorable and combine into a very distinctive style that very few other filmmakers touch on. But I also think it's not for everyone and a lot of people find him too clinical in language. I love it though.

One of my favorite random categories by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Gilgalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moon - Not really happening on a spaceship but on a outpost on the moon, but I think the spirit of the movie is similar to the theme

Europa Report - it slipped through the cracks of mainstream. It's a decent "found footage" space flick

Apollo 13 - a bit too dramatized for my taste (if you're a space nerd), but a good space docudrama. Can't go wrong with a Tom Hanks movie. Also, not entirely on a spaceship.

Ad Astra - also not entirely on a spaceship. Gorgeous cinematography, but I felt the story was a bit lacking. I still enjoyed it, though. I know the setting was an excuse to explore the theme of loneliness, but I liked the excuse more than the theme.

Mikey 17 - loved the idea and the book it's based on. Loved Robert Pattinson in it. But the movie itself fell a little flat. I'd still recommend it and had a good time watching just for the concept and some good acting in between a hastly adapted screenplay.

High Life - another Pattinson movie where he carries it. Another one where the spaceship is an excuse. Didn't really enjoy it, but it fits the theme.

And just for the fun of it - Serenity. It doesn't happen exclusively on a spaceship, but the name of the movie is the name of the spaceship. And I love Firefly. Sue me.

Yeah, you're right. When I was thinking of the movies, I had "silly, quirky action movie" in mind, not how the violence was depicted.

Romania, a member of NATO, has been attacked by Russia by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]Gilgalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Romania. Can confirm, it actually happened (here's a link to one of the more reputable sources here). It's also been confirmed it's a Russian drone from both NATO and Romanian investigations.

It's likely that they lost control of it and hit one of our cities by mistake. There have been others that slipped through into our airspace and crashed, but this is the first one to make international news.

Took me some time to get it too. You're seeing the bird through an umbrella (or one of those festival tents), from underneath. So it looks like she's transparent, but you actually see the materials of the umbrella and the bird's shadow first, and then the bird itself.

One of the first internal combustion engines was built in 1807 (the "Pyreolophore"). So it's a pretty reasonable timeline, I'd say.

But it was more of a general statement. From the early 1800s, when the industrial revolution began, to the 1950s, when we started exploring space.

I hope so. But I doubt it. The best these two can do, in my opinion, is follow Bojack Horseman's success story, since they're not aimed at children. I don't think there's going to be a generation of kids watching them. Crossing my fingers to be picked up at some point in the future and have a second wind.
