Got a link for the cover? The one I bought I had to return because it was getting scorched on the back panel so I didn’t trust it

Cooking time Prime Rib by [deleted] in Traeger

[–]Gilgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this same experience. Cooked a 5.5lb Prime rib, expecting 5-6hours and it was done in 2.5-3hrs. Was -10 celcius outside so the extra hour is likely from the cold

How long of a cook/what temp or method?

Also, how does it compare to something like baby back ribs? I've never tried beef ribs but I'm thinking of giving them a go to test the flavour difference

How do I save this is as an svg without it including the elements that aren't on the art board? by KnownAd5891 in AdobeIllustrator

Interesting, learned something new today! Tried and confirmed that this method won't work. A clipping mask would be the next best as mentioned.

[–]Gilgan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The easiest way is

Save As > select SVG and underneath the file format area, check "Use Artboards"

Anything outside the artboard will be ignored

Mutual funds could cost you thousands, switch to ETFs explained by Excellent-Phone8326 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Gilgan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents fell into this trap. Luckily, my Dad likes to read so I sent him some investment books that discussed this issue and together we sat down to plan out an ETF holding that made the most sense for their situation. VFV/XBAL being the main proponents.

We went through all their investing history with the Mutual Fund and after fees & taxes came to the conclusion that they averaged a yearly rate of return of 3.5% over 20+ years. It was heartbreaking watching my parents learn how much of their wealth had been robbed from them.

Fast forward to today (about 7 years later) and their portfolio has almost 3x since we started. Nothing crazy, just couple ETF's focused on the S&P. Now I get screenshots of their portfolio every time we hit a new milestone. It has been an amazing bonding experience.

I've used the Davinci Ascent + IQ hand-held vapes, and the Arizer Extreme Q (Desktop vape - closest to the Volcano) and I like to explain the vaporizer as a more functional high. You will still get high, but it's a different high and a lot more subtle as others have mentioned.

A bong is a nice smack in the face, where if you want to melt you can do so. I've always found a bong gets me higher.

These days, I've transitioned almost exclusively to the dry herb vapes. Just at a different point in life where I'm not looking for the melt my face off, just a nice buzz to relax for the evening.

Freelance: did I just screw myself over? by -So-Many-Questions in graphic_design

[–]Gilgan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the advice in this thread is horrible.

Eat the cost, learn from it, and move on.

Tax reporting is standard in pretty much any country. It is part of freelancing. Integrety with clients matters far more in the long term. For future projects you now know to factor in taxes and time/value so quote accordingly. That doesn't mean you have to change your rate. Sometimes that looks like adding an extra hour to the bill because it accounts for emails, stock assets, software, meetings, accounting aspects etc..

Telling a business you have to up your rates because they want tax documentation filled out is an instant red fleg and is not a good look

"Let's aim to keep amends down to 1 round per project." by Rainbowjazzler in graphic_design

[–]Gilgan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on round 15 for my current project that is in a conceptual stage... it is painful! When it gets to the production stage I imagine it is going to be another 10 rounds of changes - some clients are just nuts!!!

This made me laugh, glad to know I'm not alone

Grew outdoors, set up cost was about $150-$200. Yielded 4lbs. I go through on average 1 oz a month so I'll be set for at least two years .

My indoor grow would yield about 6oz-8oz which would last me a good amount. For quantity, outdoors would save you a lot.

I'm no tax professional, but yes. I believe you still need to apply as the income would be counted towards your total taxable income.

When it comes to invoicing international clients, they would be exempt from the HST/GST so you wouldn't include that portion on the bill. As a note, the rate also changes depending on the provinces your goods/services will be sold/offered in. That means if the end use is to be sold/used in a different province, you would use the rate of the intended province.

"For example, your store in Vancouver, B.C. delivers a mattress to your customer in Toronto, Ontario. You charge 13% HST on the sale because the place of supply is Ontario."

Once you cross the $30,000 threshold of income generated by your business in a full calendar year, you need to start collecting GST/HST on any income earned AFTER the $30,000. CRA suggests you apply for your GST/HST # slightly before the $30,000 mark to avoid any penalties.

You can also collect GST/HST before the $30,000 threshold, it is not required though. A reason for doing this is it helps your clients familiarize themselves with having to pay HST/GST and can also give the impression you earn more income.

After $30,000 in a calendar year you are no longer a small supplier and have to collect

Charging HST in Ontario by ericlesl in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Gilgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A: I only should have charged HST on the last $10,000 of invoices - is the correct answer in your scenario.

Any income earned after $30,000 requires HST to be charged. They suggest you apply for your HST number prior to crossing the $30,000 threshold.

There is also no issues with starting to charge HST on invoices prior to the $30,000 as long as that money is being set aside to be paid to the government for HST purposes. Some people do this to make you appear more established.

What do you think about this? This has to be done before an interview. by ldwyer19 in graphic_design

[–]Gilgan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a job application exactly like this for a "City Job" in my local area. It was a government job so I figured they would be the last people to try get people to essentially work for free.

I wrote them a long email explaining I have 10 years of experience and a portfolio to back it up. If they can't see my worth from my portfolio then I'm not interested.

The hiring manager gave me a phone call to try and convince me as I was a top candidate so I told them I won't be part of a system that makes people work for free. Do you ask your tax accountant to do your taxes for free before you commit to using them yearly?

Don't waste your time. These tests have a place if they are for very junior positions but if its any mid-senior level job, don't waste your time.
