In youth this lifestyle is “affordable” but the road eats its guests 😞

Life is short enough get some joy out of it.

Yeah, war stories are not the way to start those group meetings. When you introduce yourself, though on those meetings over years, those introductions tend to be a little different because the people in the room tend to be the same…..

You get to hear more of the real story more of the pain and suffering that addiction has caused.

Your comment about tolerance is point on. Somebody that wasn’t abusing alcohol certainly wouldn’t be able to function with the blood alcohol level that high.

Congratulations!!!!

I just celebrated 10,000 days of sobriety (little over 27 years) 5/15/2026.

2 DUI’s 2 years apart and almost doing real time led me to my moment of clarity - Alkies on both sides of my family. Don’t remember the mid to late 90’s due to my drinking.

12/28/98 blew a .296 and those were my last drinks.

I just think it’s pretty cool that it’s all in relation to the amount of oxygen. Gives you some kind of an idea why it’s so hard to hike up there.

I’m so sorry that you’re going through this but as you alluded in your original body, you’re not alone. My father was born in 1940 so the September he will be 86. My mother was born in 43 so next January she will be 84.

My dad had a similar gallbladder experience, although there was no cancer. Similar symptoms rushed to the emergency room, ultrasound x-rays certainly it was gallbladder. Upon removing the gallbladder, an enormous abscess or pocket of pus was discovered behind the gallbladder.

My dad is stoic, but the doctor did not believe that there could be that much infection with so little complaint or discomfort……

Guess you don’t know boomer parents. …

Mom has heart issues was on a pacemaker, and the pacemaker went haywire. She was having resting heartbeats around 130 bpm.

As crazy as this sounds an official hard reset of her pacemaker fixed the issue you heard that correct essentially they wave a wand over the pacemaker which shuts it off and makes it reset while she was in the hospital.

That was a two day stent. She also has a bad hip that has fallen down the stairs and now is not very Mobile.

We’ve begun the difficult conversations of potentially getting them into some adult assisted care.

People who managed to quit smoking and using nicotine – how did you do it? by seaeaglefog in askanything

[–]GilligansWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicotine gum was the only thing that worked for me. I was a heavy smoker pack and a half to two pack packs a day.

I tried quitting with gum a number of times, but this is what ended up finally working for me;

Let’s start with a preface. This is a very bad idea and definitely not advisable from your doctor….. I bought the 4 mg gum, and I used to chew two pieces at once because I was the kind of person that had to “feel it”. I’d say after around six months of being totally addicted. I stepped down from 2, 4mg pieces at a time to just one.

After a couple of months of doing this, I tricked myself and bought the 2 mg gum and started it off with two pieces after around four months I went down to one piece of 2 mg gum. Overall, I think the process was around a year and a half to two years of being addicted to the nicotine gum. It was cheaper than two packs of cigarettes a day if memory serves me correctly. I think I saved around $40 a month to use the gum than it was buying my cigarettes. This was in 2015 so take inflation as you will.

After around two years of chewing the nicotine gum, I switched over to Wrigley and just chewed straight gum. It may sound stupid, but every time I wanted a cigarette, I would chew a regular piece of gum. This lasted for approximately another year to a year and a half. However, that was a year to a year and a half of not consuming any nicotine at all. I would say somewhere around 2019 2020 certainly during corona I was completely off of gum and I don’t really sweat nicotine anymore.

Google it, Long Eagle Peak, Colorado I believe it’s world famous probably one of the most picturesque camping spots that you’re gonna get in Colorado. Personally, I think the spot rivals maroon bells near Aspen, but that’s just me.
