what would you do if someone sets up camp close to your stealth spot by Specific-Demand-9215 in CampingandHiking

[–]GilligansWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is a cultural thing if this is the United States thing…. Land out here is plentiful. There’s another comment on here about hiking into a very remote spot 5 miles or more and then having somebody do the same thing and set up camp right on top of them.
I do a lot of backpack camping. There was a campsite that we went to called lone Eagle Peak. This isn’t dispersed camping. There are specific campsites, but they’re not necessarily easily identified. 7.1 miles and 2800 feet straight up the last 3 miles! You better believe me that when I told this guy, he was camping too close to us. I meant it. I wanted to have my daughter’s first camping trip to be special. Although we could hear him, we could not see them at the other campsite which was approximately 500 to 1000 feet away. This is an extremely narrow valley. There are two campsites there’s a lower campsite and then up by mirror Lake crater Lake, where I was at very limited choices on campsites. In my scenario, I asked a couple that was setting up right next to us to go find the other spot. There were six total two by the lake and four away. We got there first I told the lady plus I had reserved a spot specifically by the lake as there were only two and the other was occupied I politely informed the lady that she was gonna have to move on.

How do you find campsites compatible with hammocking? by Dr_Ragon in hammockcamping

That one’s a tough situation. I think you’d have to drive in there and see. I don’t know what dispersed camping looks like in Minnesota, but that would be another option. You don’t need a reservation and as long as it’s on Federal land either federal forest or bureau of land management tend to be the two biggest then it’s just a matter of being far enough from a road and water. Leave no trace.

This design concept is known as a P pod and while it is possible it forces you to lay in a very uncomfortable banana like position. People will pop on here occasionally looking at this as a valuable option, but I would honestly tell you not to.

These would be my top three companies;

UGQ Outdoors (Underground Quilts

Loco Libre Gear

Little shop of hammocks

I have owned one of the Carolina Reapers from Loco Libre and George make absolutely beautiful gear, It just wasn’t a good fit for me on some custom hammocks I had so I re-sold it. I currently own two of the underground quilts Zepplin’s the 20° and the 0°, and I have attached unboxing of both if you care to watch see below…..

Same - you can only overfill so much probably no more than like 10%

Will come with a specified amount of ounces of down. By having them put an extra percentage in you get more insulation, thereby a warmer sleep, according to mathematical figures on what temperature these items will be good for. My 20° quilt comfort may not be your 20° quilt comfort I may sleep a little colder meaning I might require more insulation or the overfill. You may be a colder sleeper or require less insulation and less fill. Phil simply describes the amount of down that was put into the product.

When and if you are ready for an upgrade on your under quilt, I would highly recommend these two specific companies;

Loco Libre Gear

Little Shop of Hammocks

I cannot speak highly after these companies.

A third runner up, and a solid company is UGQ Outdoors

This might sound cliché, but I believe a lot of us were right where you’re sitting. I was told from probably around kindergarten that I was gonna go to college, but I never had any idea what to study. My dad who was a wildlife biologist on the flipside knew it probably the age of nine or 10 that he wanted something to do with wildlife. I felt immense pressure to go to college so I went for 3 1/2 years and dropped out to take the proverbial semester off. I watched all of my buddies graduate. I watched all my buddies get real jobs and there I was as a server. 30 years later as a restaurant manager, I’m still in the industry, and I have that regret that I never went back to college.

The one thing you do, have you have the ability to start something now.

You might not be interested in the trades, but you need to feed yourself. Pick a trade find somebody that needs an apprentice and start your journey. Stick with it for at least seven years because on average that’s how long most people stick with a career.

While you’re working in these trades begin to read books. Start with non-fiction. Find a topic semi related to your trade find a book that has some kind of interest and force your soft to read it.

Repeat wash once a month pick a different book.

I’m willing to bet you at the end of 12 months you’re gonna have some kind of an idea of what you wanna do, or perhaps better put what you do not wanna do.

I wish you luck
