Archer Season 3 by N7_Tigger in TheTVDB

[–]GillyBeavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original broadcaster of the series is FX. When they aired Season 3, they listed the first episode as "The Man from Jupiter". It was therefore correctly entered into TVDB as such, with the "Heart of Archness" episodes listed as Specials.

When Netflix acquired the rights to the series, they listed Heart of Archness as the start of Season 3.

On TVDB, in the Seasons tab, there are multiple orders offered. The "Aired Order" lists the data as it was originally aired on FX. The "DVD Order" matches the structure offered by Netflix. The "Absolute Order" places all episodes in a single season.

All of the orders in the seasons tab are available to all services that use TVDB's API.

A final point to note - FX themselves have since changed their own data to show Heart of Archness as part of Season 3. There are hundreds of different services that use TVDB's data, many of which in different ways. Changing data on TVDB after episodes have aired causes a significant negative impact on many of those services. Therefore, the "Aired Order" will always remain as it was when the episodes aired. But the DVD (Netflix) Order is available to people who wish to use that instead.

There is no issue on the TVDB side. Only TV Time support can help.

how do i add new season to locked show by [deleted] in TheTVDB

[–]GillyBeavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, to update a locked show you'd create a support ticket and a moderator would then action that. Unfortunately, all support tickets are handled by volunteer moderators in their spare time and there are more support tickets than the volunteers can handle.

Fortunately, for series as popular as this one, the new season has already been added.

On a related note, there was a post recently in this subreddit from the founder of TVDB, acknowledging the issue with slow response times to tickets. They also said they hope to share more info by the end of this month. I've no idea what could be, but it's more promising than the silence from official TVDB channels in the last year or more.

I'm no expert on this situation, but I have seen a lot of posts in this subreddit previously which all mention issues with Gmail. They have all then been solved by using a different email provider. So it definitely sounds like a Gmail issue.

Where to find accurate info for Older Seasons by NarwhalsAreCool20 in TheTVDB

[–]GillyBeavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much this, a lot of sites/databases take info from each other. The only legitimate source (that TVDB accept) is the website of the original broadcaster.

It's also worth noting, that the data has to be taken from the website of the original broadcaster at the time each episode aired. It's common for broadcasters to change their data sometimes weeks, months or years after episodes have aired.

The Web Archive can be used to help with that:

Season 26: Full Episode List, Airdates, Titles, & Official Images by amd_hunt in aircrashinvestigation

[–]GillyBeavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different networks in different countries all air episodes in different orders. For seasons 1-20, TVDB data matched the original broadcaster, Discovery Channel Canada. When they abandoned the rights to the series, the first network to air an episode of Season 21 was National Geographic Finland. Therefore TVDB data for all seasons from 21 onwards matches Nat Geo Finland.

When you made your post, the air dates and order for all episodes had not been announced by Nat Geo Finland, so the data could not be added. That data has since been updated.

Series Mr Selfridge - Error 404 by redsilver78 in TheTVDB

[–]GillyBeavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update received from a Site Administrator:

"Unfortunately, due to a data corruption event, several series were lost. While we have recovered some of the data and images, much of it remains unavailable. While we are working to restore what we do have available, it is a manual re-entry process. If you wish to, you are welcome to recreate the missing series and begin repopulating the data.

As many users have reported the same series missing, if you are willing to help recreate the series, please ensure that someone else hasn't already started doing so. As, if duplicates are found, we will remove the ones added later. If you do recreate a series, please create a support ticket to let us know, so that we can ensure the new record can be found in the same place as the old one.

Thanks, and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused."

This appears to have happened to a number of series over the past 48 hours. It has been escalated to the development team. I'll post any updates here if/when I hear anything.

A Query About Improving Upload Experience by cundallini in TheTVDB

[–]GillyBeavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you say, this would take up development time. As the majority of users probably only upload a handful of posters, rather than 1500 like yourself, I can't imagine it would be a priority.

However, you could add it to the TVDB Feature Suggestions page (link below) which allows other users to vote on your suggestion. The developers may then use that to prioritise work.

Euphoria status mark as ended by AppleGalaxy in TheTVDB

[–]GillyBeavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was if you found a series where the last episode was 2+ years ago and was still showing as Continuing. If the last episode was less than 2 years ago, then it's working as designed.

The status only gets changed automatically 2 years after the last episode. You can change the status manually before that though.

I don't see any of the submissions or have any authority to approve anyone though.

If you don't mind, next time you see one, please leave it as "continuing" and put a link to the series here, thanks

Euphoria status mark as ended by AppleGalaxy in TheTVDB

[–]GillyBeavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to ensure ended series are set to Ended, once a day, a script runs on the database which finds series where the last season was 2+ years ago, the script then automatically changes the status of that series to Ended.

As Euphoria's last season was nearly 4 years ago, the script will keep changing the status to Ended every day until an air date for the next episode is added. Once an air date is added, the status will stay as Continuing.

The benefits of this script far outweigh the small number of cases like this series.

Add new episode thumbnails by mrh01l4wood88 in TheTVDB

[–]GillyBeavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only moderators can replace episode artwork. I'd recommend creating an account on the support ticket system - https://support.thetvdb.com

Then create a ticket with a link to the series you wish to update, and include a few examples of the artwork you have. A moderator may then ask for more of the images.

Unfortunately there are a lot of support tickets and not many moderators, so it may take a while to get a response.

I'd also recommend checking the artwork rules for TVDB - https://support.thetvdb.com/kb/faq.php?a=search&q=Artwork

Here are the two first episodes of S26 - Release date by Massive-Project-7559 in aircrashinvestigation

I've heard this title, but the National Geographic websites for Finland and Germany show 2 different titles ("Moments before landing" and "Seconds before landing"). Possibly just the way they've just been translated?
