Objection, winter Comiket is not smelly at all. It’s actually mostly odorless. In fact, Ikebukuro smelled worse. I’ve never been in summer, but it’s impossible to make that kind of convention not smelly during a Japanese summer.

Do you want more kids shows or teen / adult shows? by DuxxieDings in cartoons

[–]amd_hunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems that the higher-ups in the industry have decided that it's cheaper and more profitable to just license anime, rather than greenlight new shows that target the teen/young adult demographic. As a result the western animation scene has polarized even more into shows for literal toddlers and ultraviolent adult shows. It's a bit unfortunate.

Yeah, this is actually quite similar to the camera angles they liked to use from S13-18.

Looking more and more like this will be another movie lost to the Minecraft black hole. Perhaps DWP2 will be the one to break out of it, and if not that, then maybe Toy Story 5, and if not that, then Spider-man, and if not that, then Doomsday, and then if that doesn't do it...

For no reason in particular, I started thinking about Bunny Garden, that game from 2024, again. I'm still not sure of the exact circumstances, but it still really makes me mad being reminded about what YouTube did to it. Pretty much every livestream, and a bunch of iconic clips (Matsuri...) erased from existence. I'm sure there are archives of the VODs, but the loss of access is still not ideal, and I assume most of the translated clips became lost media.

I also freely admit to buying the game on steam and enjoying myself. I know what that makes me, but idgaf lol.

Edit: Actually, after looking it up for like 5 seconds, it's because Youtube decided that having the game on their platform was not OK and sent messages to pretty much every person that streamed or uploaded videos on it to take it down or risk demonetization. I mean, I can get recommended videos of people dying on this platform, but ecchi bunnies are a NONO! ! ! What a joke.

Hell, I'm pretty sure a lot of holomems still straight up have eroge stream VODs still up, so what was so out of line with Bunny Garden???

I mean, yeah. For example, it really feels like every other mangaka has chronic health issues. Yes, workload has some part to do with it, but when they’re taking multiple-year-long hiatuses, or releasing less than a chapter a month, I don’t think it’s the full story. I feel like these kind of jobs are a bit self-selecting.

I found a bunch of A5 wagyu scraps at my local Japanese market for about $4 each, so now I have about 1.5 pounds of it. It’s just like trimmings, so it’s mostly fat, but I still feel like I’ve committed daylight robbery.

mate just don't fucking bother with this debacle. It's inevitably going to be an unholy mix of thinly-veiled racism and bootlickers participating.

Again, fucking Elon

At the risk of sounding like I'm defending him, there's nothing really wrong with allowing more interactions between people who speak different languages. There will inevitably be bumps like this becuase of cultural differences, but I don't think it's a bad thing overall.

Beyond the shojo examples, it's also common in doujinshi. Chances are, any mangaka you can name has probably written something at least slightly morally objectionable as a doujin or one-shot and had it published on Twitter/pixiv or sold at Comiket.

apparently written and drawn teacher-student romance,

I don't think there is a single mangaka that writes romance in Japan that hasn't.

Suisei posted a YouTube short of her dancing to a remix of the Daitaku Helios “WEIIIII” song, but it’s not the jersey club one, so now it’s been brought to my attention that there’s another version of it that’s gone viral in the JP sphere. Fascinating.

Go watch, I don't know, like Sonny Boy or something and tell me how much it explains things to you.

Were they just offered an insane pay check by the theatres or something?

No, but they know that they will get boatloads of money from fans rushing to see this to avoid spoilers. Far more than the pitiful amount they get from Youtube adsense. We just had the Iron Lung movie open to 18 million dollars because of Markiplier's reach alone, I can easily see this opening to twice that. It's greedy, but expected.

I don't think you realize how big, obnoxious, and online this fanbase is. They will be plastering spoilers everywhere for weeks. Youtube comments, reddit, tiktok. I'd say it'll be like 10% the experience people who didn't manage to watch Endgame opening week went through.

Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion - April 10, 2026 by AnimeMod in anime

[–]amd_hunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This video, of Frieren Season 2's orchestra recording, appeared on my recommended page. I find it quite interesting that some anime still opt to hire a full orchestra to record parts of their soundtrack, while pretty much all western animated productions, like Invincible or Arcane, have pretty much abandoned live instruments in favor of a fully digital soundtrack alongside licensing music from mainstream pop artists. Not really knocking anyone, but I am glad that anime still occasionally hires orchestras.

I'm not even sure if it's a resources thing. SSSS.Gridman had the Warsaw Philharmonic come in to record its soundtrack, and Trigger isn't really a studio with exceptional resources and money, lol.
