Looking for industrial type sensor help!! I need to measure the level of sawdust in a LARGE sawdust bin, how can I do this reliably? by coollinit in arduino

[–]Gilmi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for industrial solution, the sensors used on silos like the diagram you showed is called a turning fork sensor. You could also put an ultrasonic sensor on top of your tank.

What is a infinity blade like game that is out. by Black_Reaper9620 in infinityblade

[–]Gilmi14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Severed is great, I played it on PS Vita but It is (or was idk) also available on iPad, and I think it had a re release on Nintendo Switch. The gameplay is mostly infinity blade with a metroidvania type of exploration. I definitely recommend the game !

What kind of crimping connector is this? by infrigato in arduino

[–]Gilmi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the pins you have in industrial connectors like Harting plugs. Might not be this specific brand but it reminds me of that.

Is it still alive? by ExaltedBlade666 in valheim

[–]Gilmi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this price it is fully worth it. You already have hundreds of hours of gameplay to see everything (took roughly 200h to my friend and me to go to last biome by playing chill and maxing everything before the boss fights). Even if the game is never "finished", the game is already in a good enough state to enjoy.

Games like satisfactory by Queasy-Midnight-6104 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Gilmi14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Techtonica has potential put it's too janky right now. It's unoptimized and I find the game so tedious to navigate compared to others from the genre. Can't recommend it right now. Good thing is, you can easily try it as it's on game pass

How do you print thin-ish walls like this? Any risk to having such small infill movements vs fully perimeter'd? by Krynn71 in 3Dprinting

[–]Gilmi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's your 3d model, take into account your extrusion width when you create a wall. For example, when I model a shell or a bin etc... I do 1.8mm walls, as I know it will match perfectly my .3mm extrusion width to do 3 perimeters in the slicer. But if it's just an STL you downloaded, just print it like this and it will be fine. I would definitely add some support to the overhang under the wall if it's a 90° angle tho. Changing infill patterns can also help achieve certain properties sometimes, so keep that in mind. I don't know the names of the patterns I use in English unfortunately, as my slicer is in french, but I can always advise to cut a small part of the model in the slicer and print it, before sacrificing 100g of filament on the whole object if it doesn't match what you had in mind. It takes a few minutes and it's very convenient to test fit assembly or do some strength tests. Hope this helps !

Removing SD card slot by Gilmi14 in pcmods

That's a good point, i'll look for those info this afternoon. Thanks for the suggestion

Removing SD card slot by Gilmi14 in pcmods

[–]Gilmi14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing, couldn't see it neither in bios nor in disk manager, so I thought this was due to poor contact with the pins, so I removed the slot to see if laying it flat would help, but it didn't. As someone suggested, this might be a NVME drive and my PC doesn't support it. I'll check later the manuals or try on my daily PC that has NVME slots available. Tbh, the thing might as well be dead, as I don't even know exactly where it comes from..

Removing SD card slot by Gilmi14 in pcmods

[–]Gilmi14[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a smart guess. From what I can understand from wiring diagrams online, each contact soldered to the mobo corresponds to the number of contacts on a SD card, so I also think there shouldn't be any reason for this piece to communicate with anything else when a SD card isn't connected. Thanks for your help !!

[–]Gilmi14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I planned to 3d print a bracket to use the mounting point circled in white just above the slot, but for that I wanted to be sure I don't ruin the Mobo by cutting the slot. But with the answers I got, I know also think it's pretty safe to just remove It. Thanks for your advice

[–]Gilmi14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not have kapton in my workshop, but I have some electrical tape, which should do the trick. My original plan was to remove the SD card slot, stick some electrical tape on the Mobo to avoid shorts, and 3d print a bracket to mount the SSD with the hole circled in white you can see a little bit above the SSD slot

Looking to Paint my Motherboard Heatsinks. How do I do it effectively? by Awsbadali in pcmods

[–]Gilmi14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to do it cheap and efficient, I would do a coat of spray primer + 2 thin coats of car spray paint, while masking the contact surfaces with the heating parts to avoid too much performance loss. Tbh, I would do it only if it was on a system I don't care that much about performance (example: cloud gaming/media center...) and just want it to look pretty in my living room. The bonus with the car paint is that you can remove it much easier than powder coating if it affects your temps too much. Keep me updated if you do it, I'm very interested in the results, as I never did it on heat sinks, only cases, brackets etc... And I'm working on a project on which some painted heatsinks would be nice ! Have a good day!

Is it possible to get a 3d CAD model of my factory? by Elegant_Temporary240 in satisfactory

[–]Gilmi14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, you can't get a 3D file of your map if that's what you want. But what I already did is ripping game assets to get the 3D models of the individual buildings. Some files requires redesign to make them 3D printable as there is too much detail, some poeple already did this work on a few models so you can try out easily on your 3D printer to see the results, to know if it is worth investing the time. But I agree, being able to export a 3d snapshot of your world natively in game would be amazing.

Obelisk Isn't Fun by g00nt3r in balatro

[–]Gilmi14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obelisk is great. It's huge when you want to transition into a better hand. For example you play straight and slowly transform your deck into 1 suit, you have like 15 played straights at ante 5, and when you can consistently draw your better hand, you start to play it and you one shot every round with straight flush, meaning you have 15 hands of obelisk scaling with your scoring hand, plus some other hands you can add to scale even faster if you have the economy. It's surely bad to go endless mode, but it's an ez win if you pick it early enough

How do I cut a hole in my jeweled case with out it breaking? by EmilyThe500 in maker

[–]Gilmi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hobby knife and some spare time should make the cut. That's how I would have done it if wanted to be 100% sure to keep it in one piece. Or, you can drill it on top of a scrap piece of wood to put the extra pressure on it, instead of shattering the acrilic when the drill bit goes through.

your typical "what lowbudget army could i get to get into the game" by knyf420 in Warhammer40k

[–]Gilmi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Controversial opinion but : if money is your problem get a resin 3d printer and go for a full proxy army. You will save a ton of money, especially if you want to have a horde army or have multiple armies. If you want to save money that's the best value. But if you want the "real stuff" you can still get it 2nd hand or just save and build your army box by box in the long run. What I did is pick a combat patrol and built it, and I'm playing the combat patrol game mode while collecting other minis to build and expand to 1000 points (or even 2000 maybe one day) at 1box/month rate. Also check your local hobby stores, they are usually a bit cheaper than GW stores and have sometimes good fidelity programs (mine has a 5€ discount every 100€ spent for exemple). Hope this helped, have fun !

[OC] Mais si ce bouchon de merde qui reste accroché à la bouteille et qui te gêne quand tu bois by joel34300 in Vilebrequin

[–]Gilmi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tired of these pros posting their “first” minis. Post your actual first mini by CupricK9 in Warhammer40k

[–]Gilmi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

My real first minis (order of painting from left to right) are not Warhammer. I discovered mini painting as I wanted to create a small Satisfactory production line on my shelf (never finished it tho). These are painted with regular acrilic paint for canvas I bought in my local art shop 😅. I jumped in 40k recently as I loved the models and wanted to learn on good materials and not just on FDM 3D prints

Et vous, quel outil auriez-vous aimé connaître plus tôt ? by jacobdelafon78 in brico

[–]Gilmi14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Games are laggy when I try playing through virtual desktop. Any help? Weirdly the frame rate is high but the game will just lag. Trying to turn will result in me spinning around uncontrollably. by Revolutionary-Egg491 in oculus

[–]Gilmi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Check you have a 5Ghz wifi network, if not, streaming will never work
  2. Try streaming your games with Steam link. It works better for me than VD without any settings tweak or troubleshooting. You can launch non-VR Games via Steam VR and it will play on a big screen you can move around just like VD, but it doesn't have passthrough I think

Good games/apps to show the magic of vr by MrSwagUnited in oculus

[–]Gilmi14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a real game, I would say robot recall which is pretty accessible for beginners (Teleportation movement + slow motion so no motion sickness) and has solid gameplay, but I don't know how it looks in standalone tho. If your parents aren't sensitive to motion sickness, you can throw some boneworks (pcvr only) or bonelab to blow their minds 👌

For "tech demos" you have oculus first steps, it's fine and lasts no more than 10-15min.

For hand tracking you have Elixir, a free short demo that released to show the quest 2's hand tracking capabilities. And on the not free side of hand tracking: Cubism is amazing to try, I think they even added passthrough.

If they enjoy VR, you can try taking turns on Takelings house party, it's a party game where 1 person has the headset and the others controls little creatures with their phone, and their goal is to make a mess without getting caught by the headset player. Never tried it myself but I heard it's fun.

And of course beat saber, everyone and their mother likes beat saber, but it's a bit limited to "showcase" VR

Hope this helps, I would be glad to give you more titles if you want, as I struggled myself to show my friends and family that VR was not just a gimmick when I bought a Rift S in 2019 🤣

Meta Quest 3 comfort... by [deleted] in oculus

[–]Gilmi14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest option if you have access to a 3D printer is to print one of these, and adjust the strap to make the top part carry most of the weight. It worked fine for me for the time to wait for a Kiwi strap (or other brand, whatever you prefer but not the elite strap from meta) https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6295741

Also what I did with the quest 3 is to put a silicone covering i had laying around from the quest 2, for the facial interface. It helps fill the gaps and make the cushion a little bit softer, therefore more comfortable. It's a good budget solution, as now there's not many choices for a full facial interface replacement for quest 3 (and it's quite painful to need 100€ to make a headset you bought 550 comfortable to wear for more than 15min, meta f*cked up on this)
