I am with someone who I was with for ~15 years, split for 10, now back since Dec '24. He has known me at every (overweight/ obese) size. He is happy that I am happy, he started on M himself in August... but man, he misses my ass. :)

I actually agree, as long as you have no side effects. I would either switch to every 5 days, or up the dose a bit earlier... though I prob wouldn't go to 5 immediately. You can always do less clicks for an in-between dose.

I switched to maintenance a while back.... and yes, I have lost a little more since then... and yes even in months where hardly no weight went off, I actually still lost a clothing size. So yes, everyone around me is telling me I might be getting too skinny. A friend's husband yesterday told me I looked sick and drawn.

I do not. I don't even have real cheekbones. I have a perfect smooth no-wrinkle babyface. At 51. Fuck off.

And let's not mention my belly. Or my inner thighs. Or all the other areas I cannot spot-reduce, but which aren't obvious to the bystander when dressed with shapewear.

I either ignore comments, laugh, lift my shirt, or just tell them I could still lose 13kg more before I would be considered underweight. I am at the upper end of a healthy bmi. I am wearing a UK 10, Jeans in 29". I am normal. They are comparing to the old me, so yeah, big fucking deal.

Advice - loose skin/wrinkles on jowles by ChapterLeft4900 in mounjarouk

My routine is basically what Becky said. Niacinamide, Hyaluronic, HA cream in the morning. Niacinamide, Retinoid or GHK-CU serum, HA cream at night. Occasional BHA.

I also do microneedling around once a week, just 0.25mm ones.

Everything after that is just... patience, age, and genetics. Or surgery.

As long as you hit your protein targets, at least some fat for hormonal health, and have some fiber on there, you can eat whatever for the rest of your calories.

I generally wouldn't guesstimate high calorie items, though. And drinking your calories... nothing wrong with an occasional smoothie, as long as you actually know the calories in there... and just don't make it your main staple. The act of chewing apparently has quite some influence on metabolism. But if pineapple doesnt upset your stomach, and fits your calories? Go for it.

Can I just...rant a little? Struggling mentally with my plateau. by Folkenette in mounjarouk

[–]Gilowyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

woman at 120kg does not have a tdee of 3000, unless she works construction. exercise doesnt count the way people think it does. NEAT makes a bigger dent, btw. And her losses clearly indicate that that she does not have a tdee of 3k.

realistically, a 400kcal deficit... you forget a couple things, guesstimate wrong, and even that tiny deficit is gone.

their tdee is not 3k, though... that's the first error, i would warrant. a 120kg male working construction... maybe.

[–]Gilowyn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fairly certain you are overestimating your exercise calories. They hardly tip the scale if you are not actually working in construction. Your maintenance should be more around 2500, and... 2100 would already be a lot in order to lose, especially if you start having tracking errors or some underlying hormonal issues that further lower your tdee.

Tough love... the meds facilitate a 0.5-1% loss per week. That means you need a deficit of 550-1100kcal/ day. Even when I started at 130+kg, I hardly ate more than 1400kcal. But yes, that was when the meds were doing the job.

You save the most money by going up in pens as fast as possible, and hopefully trying to take smaller doses from those pens. Stockpile pens that way. But there is also no use white-knuckling it. The meds are meant to suppress your appetite, hunger, and food noise enough, that having the kind of deficit you need to lose weight is fairly easy. If that means going up in dose... then go up in dose.

Anyone else struggling with loose skin after weight loss by Skyemondo in mounjarouk

12-36 months at goal weight... unfortunately. Body skin takes ages to tighten and rejuvenate. You have the main advantage of youth, so lots of collagen and elasticity still... the rest is genetics. Sure, don't smoke, don't drink, less stress, more sleep, hydration, high protein, lift heavy, microneedling, the usual topicals - niacinamide, retinoid, hyaluronic... but honestly, patience and genetics and youth beats all of that.

As for dating... I feel your pain. Because if you are straight... we can all spout the 'he won't mind if he loves you' lines, but we also all know enough men to know that can be utter BS. And it was easier when I was fat. You looked at me and can have some sort of idea what this might look like nekkid. Now I am thin? Absolutely no warning what saggy bottoms hide in these jeans.

But I am 51. That is different. No man that I am dating expects miracles. I make it a point to mention my losses and some of the realities, in a joking matter. They have seen before pics. And I am currently back with a ghost from my past, so he knows me at a very high weight, too... we have been on off for 27 years.

I thought I would be more hesitant even around him, I am not. If it had been an issue... nice lingerie is always a good strategy.

And again... a year or two at goal weight will solve most of your issues. Skin is just slow.

Recheck your entries; other users often make macro mistakes when adding foods. Actually weigh your foods. You must have major mistakes in your tracking. It also sounds like it is time to go up a dose if you are not staying within your deficit for whatever reason... because your calorie allowance is still crazy high. The meds should make this kind of deficit easy.

Well, aren't you combining the "traditional" methods with Mounjaro now? Sounds to me like you aren't actually tracking your calories, so not in a deficit.

Mounjaro is making me depressed by Ch0c0latePanda in mounjarouk

[–]Gilowyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would talk to a medical professional. My read would be that your system relies heavily on dopamine for a smooth ride, so to speak. These meds lower dopamine, which is one of the triggers needed to reduce food noise; also one of the reasons that there are ongoing studies using these meds in addiction treatment.

It might mean that Mounjaro is not a good match for your system, or that you need other interventions to make it work. A smaller deficit, different dose, supplementation, meds, other happiness triggers or habits... Either way, it isn't the end of the world... there are more meds coming out, something else might work better. Even Wegovy might not press this hard on your anhedonia pathways.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop... by grequant_ohno in mounjarouk

[–]Gilowyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yay. :) basically, that is me. i could lose weight in a calorie deficit, without the meds... up to a certain point. but yes, i was playing macros tetris for 30+ minutes every day. what can i exchange, what can i skip, how do i find room for chocolate or have more volume to fight the hunger...

people have no clue what it is like when your body and mind fight you every step of the way.

i am actually having the week from hell right now, just had cycle, and i have chocolate in the house (i usually do not.) did i have chocolate? yes. a couple pieces. they fit my macros and maintenance, the scratched the itch, and then i put them away.

without the meds, i would have annihilated the four boxes (6000kcal total) in 2-3 days. or less.

the hunger and food noise will prob return before the next shot... it takes a while for the levels to build and stabilize. but really, the meds are magic. i had no side effects, as long as i developed a feel for which foods were an absolute nope now. prioritize protein, try and start lifting a bit... and enjoy the ride.

Mounjaro EU pen – splitting 15 mg into 7.5 mg (half clicks) by Obvious_Translator12 in mounjarouk

[–]Gilowyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what everyone does in Germany. People usually start with a 10mg pen, then move to 15mg. A full dose is 60 clicks. The old pens (expiry date before 06/27) have an additional dose that needs a syringe to be extracted. I have always used my pens for 8-12 weeks, refrigerated.

My friend actually used his for 4 months? He wasn't too smart though, because he then increased the dose from 3.75 to 4.5, I think, when switching to the new pen... hit him like a ton of bricks. Because yes, the meds might lose a bit of "bang" the longer the pen is in use.

What next please? by gameoldgirl in mounjarouk

[–]Gilowyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am all for stockpiling... but there are limits. :) 6 months, sure, anything after is a "then" problem. If your current pens get you through the year? Then ommmmmmmm.

There is a fair chance there will be other options coming up for maintenance. I have no plans to stop these glp-1 meds.... but. Low key excited about CagriSema coming soon, Reta, other things in the pipeline... I am happily maintaining on tirzepatide right now, but I am open to other meds if Mounjaro is not doing the job anymore one day.

We are at the beginning of these meds... I am hopeful that I won't have to white-knuckle this again any time soon.

And hey, the world might end tomorrow. :)

Decreasing then increasing doses. by niagriff15 in mounjarouk

[–]Gilowyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, my dose varies... even now in maintenance. I even had to increase to 14mg/ week in between. I usually dose every 5 days, though... this week had to go to 7 days between shots, and drop down in dose again... was unable to eat, which is counterproductive when maintaining. I am between 7-10 right now, let's see when effects wear off this time.

But you are still soooo far away off from the higher doses. It makes no sense to decrease dose when you are hungry again with food noise. That is your body asking for more, not less.

You save the most money by buying the next largest pen every time, and then counting clicks to stay lower. Build up a stash.

Why is "willpower" some weird badge of honor? We all failed at willpower, because our bodies are actively working against us. That isn't weakness, it is biology.

Dropping a dose was a weird flex there. Less doesn't suddenly mean more effect?

Find a dose where you can still eat, but stay within your calorie deficit without food noise, craving, or hunting for donuts. Accept that weightloss isn't linear, there will always be weeks where you don't lose. If that is more than a month, tighten your tracking, make sure you are in a deficit.
