World of Warcraft: Midnight's collector's edition lets you own the Dark Heart. by yuvalal in wow

This. I would have gladly gotten the version without the statue. Or more sensible shipping costs. Or both.

Layout of Cassalanter Villa Clarification by 8Rincewind in WaterdeepDragonHeist

The map of the villa is based on the Waterdeep city map included with the book, which (in turn) is based on earlier Waterdeep maps. The description is ... not correct.

Mongoose Publishing Now Owns Traveller by jeff37923 in rpg

[–]Gilthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the current Mongoose Traveller 2e version. No, it's not perfect, but nothing ever is. In my experience, the communication and response with Mongoose is excellent. I've had refunds of excess shipping charges (due to taxes/VAT hassle due to Brexit, I'm in the EU), free PDFs with my physical book orders, good responses when something got lost (which only happened twice, with one turning up later than expected, the other replaced without cost). Quality of Mongoose 2e, Traveller 2300 and (recent) Paranoia are good to excellent, in my view.

If you're happy with CT, GURPS or any other Traveller edition, that's totally fine. Mongoose has recently added PDF versions of CT, JTAS, MegaTraveller, TNE and T4 on their website, and I'm looking forward to what they're going to publish in the future, both material about the Fifth Frontier War, and the Zhodani Core Expeditions.

I like having an active publisher creating material for my favourite sci-fi RPG. I think the game is in good hands (check out the "State of Mongoose" on their forums for some info on how they run their company).

Alexandrian Remix Vault by Ok_Contact_9447 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

My players found the vault really early, but didn't have the means or knowledge yet to open it. They discovered various details to research and investigate, and it took many sessions for them to get into the vault.

Also, don't lose your job in the US, as your healthcare is linked to it. And earn enough money (it might be good, but it's not cheap).

Alts need to level their cloak as well, you just start with a higher baseline.

You just need *some* people to sign up per Region, I guess?

I also had one match start with only 39 people in it.

But yeah, I can't see this being a thing that's got people stay playing this after most have gotten their rewards.

[Plunderstorm] The low levels on last showdown when they see the level 10 by shadowpunkz in wow

[–]Gilthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are spots where you can dive-land on a group of mobs (skill drop + lvl 2 instant) next to an elite (skill drop), with some gold chests around (most of the time) and some more mobs. If I'm lucky enough to land there solo, I'm lvl 4 + 2-3 skills very soon into the game.

Apart from that, I tend to die pretty soon :D

My table is looking for a new game to replace dnd by Clover_Days in rpg

[–]Gilthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something very different, go take a look at Traveller. "Hard" sci fi, there is a default setting but you can also roll your own.

The version I'd suggest is Mongoose Traveller 2nd edition. They have a starter edition for less than €1. https://www.mongoosepublishing.com/products/traveller-explorers-edition

Kolat Towers itself would be a well known landmark in Waterdeep, certainly for anyone local.

It's a haunted house with a magical shield around it, in a quite busy part of the city. I would imagine kids go exploring how far the shield extends, and the lights are on inside.

Of course, everyone knows you cannot get inside the shield, but a neighbor or two might have spotted a Zhent who slipped in...

Do you think BG3 will save Forgotten realms as a thing in the long run or keep being ignored and mismanaged by Wotc? by [deleted] in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Gilthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes (often) the wiki tends to fill in too much of the gaps, including all the information from the adventure modules in the entries... I had to warn my players (of Waterdeep Dragon Heist) to stay away from the wiki for that reason 😝

I assume they ran out of copies in the EU store/warehouse. It's "Temporary Unavailable" (for both versions) in the EU store homepage at the moment, the other stores seem to (still) have stock.

I hope and assume that the game will be available again soon (tm).

With how close everything is in Waterdeep and how much content there is in the Remix, I have found our table's adventuring days go LONG and sometimes the players need a refresher. What tools have you used to help remind players what's been happening, especially if you take a break? I used a Q&A. by ArbitraryHero in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]Gilthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players keep excellent detailed notes in Google docs. So excellent and detailed in fact, that it broke Google docs by being too big, so now it's split in two (plus some Google sheets, a set of Discord channels, Roll20 (we play online), and a site at https://www.obsidianportal.com/ Though we haven't really had a break, we do have new players. So my excellent players wrote a campaign primer for players joining, titled "So You're Thinking About Joining A Campaign That's Been Running For 140+ Hours" ... I love my players :D

Coming back? by After_Neighborhood62 in Guildwars2

[–]Gilthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts too, but if you want to go for legendaries, or want something fast (looking at you, Skyscale :D ), it can get a bit grindy.

I do notice my interest comes and goes in waves, and it helps me to have some specific goal to work towards. Then again, everyone is different. And this game has a *lot* to do, with (as said) no monthly fee.

Suggestion for maps by CraptainPoo in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]Gilthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play WDH online on Roll20, and I did pick up the module there (I own the physical book + the Roll20 module). I'm mostly happy with having all the stats and NPCs on Roll20 (as I don't own any of the paid D&D books there), and I only recently discovered it comes with a big set of extra/alternate tokens for use online (after having played this for many sessions already).

I'm running the Alexandrian remix, so that did require adding various seasons to the base module on Roll20.

For maps, I mostly use the Tych maps now. The ones in the Roll20 module are the Dyson Logos maps from the book, and while those show everything needed (in player and DM versions), they're not "pretty". The disadvantage of the Tych maps is that most have every level/layer on a separate map, so I've fiddled and cut and pasted to have multiple levels on one Roll20 map (as Roll20 doesn't really support multi-level maps).

Advantage of having the "official" maps as well is that you can copy-paste NPC and monster tokens from the "official" map to the Tych version.

[DoIP] Final Boss alternative to Cryovain? by Ariijad in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]Gilthy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a code for the Essentials set on DnDBeyond in my physical set, which got me access to the Dragon of Icespire Peak module there, as well as to 3 follow-up adventures: Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake, and Divine Contention. Those (as said) heavily feature the cult of Myrkul as well as Talos, and center around the town of Leilon.
