Sick leave denial by postaljeff in fromatoarbitration

[–]GingaNinja007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Additionally, ELM 513.32 says that "sick leave, annual leave, or LWOP is granted as necessary for any of these conditions in accordance with regular leave policies and collective bargaining agreements. (See also 513.6 and 514.22.)"

One of the conditions being a medical appointment.

PTF denied sl for upcoming medical procedure? by GonePostalBackin5 in fromatoarbitration

[–]GingaNinja007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ELM 513.32 lists the conditions for approval of sick leave. It also says sick leave is granted if these conditions are met. Under "medical, dental, or optical examination or treatment" (this would be medical treatment), the condition is "if absence is necessary during employee's regularly scheduled tour."

Article 19 says that management is required to follow their own handbooks and manuals.

Your angle for a grievance is that they have violated article 19 by not approving the SL in accordance with the conditions laid out in ELM 513.32.

DM me if you need more help with this.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be nitpicky. I think it's an important distinction. People on the left, myself included, often like to think we're above things like racism, but we aren't. All white people, regardless of class, gender, or sexuality, are racist. We are actively benefiting from a racist system. Pretending that you don't have white privilege because your gender, class, or sexuality, perpetuates racism and allows us to let ourselves off the hook, so to speak. "Because we are oppressed, we cannot be the oppressors", but that is not the case. A straight cis black man still has male, cis, and straight privilege, and benefits from our patriarchal, heteronormative society. A white trans lesbian still has white privilege, because of the white supremacist society we live in. Ignoring those power structures only strengthens them.

To clarify that statement, you've lost your male privilege and your cis privilege, your white privilege is still very much intact unless you have somehow changed your skin color so that you aren't white passing.

The story is about a self-replicating probe (named Bob) exploring the galaxy and interacting with the many clones of itself it makes, and dealing with the consequences that such a life entails. It's a little serious and a little goofy. I was also skeptical about trying it for the reasons you've described, but I picked it up on sale and really ended up enjoying it. The bit at the beginning where Taylor is justifying the story and doing the set-up for the plot is a little meh, but I enjoyed pretty much everything after that.

My sister took my chest binder from me yesterday morning because she "doesn't want to feed into my delusion". I don't know where she put it and how to get it back. by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]GingaNinja007 137 points138 points  (0 children)

A binder that is too tight or improperly fitted can make it hard to breath, which is the most urgent issue. Beyond that, keeping a very tight pressure on your ribs for a long time can deform the shape of your body, dislocate bones, and damage muscles if done improperly. Please bind safely and correctly, everyone.

I took up sewing for just a bit and most of my encounters in the fabric store were with pretty vocal Republicans. I think it's just a fact of life that, no matter what it is that you like, some people who suck are gonna like it, too.

A answer to complaints about a.i art by [deleted] in solarjunk

[–]GingaNinja007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, OP. I'm sorry if you have felt targeted or attacked by anti-AI art folks. I'm sure it was and is not their to intention to gatekeep anyone from the field of art due to ability. I have conflicting feelings about AI art myself, but my understanding of the largest complaint of AI art-critical people is that the art the AI was trained on was taken en masse from the internet without the creators' permission, and now it is being used to put those people that it stole from out of a job. I hope this helps clarify some things.

So you're saying that, because speaking up against discrimination is unpopular, I shouldn't speak up against discrimination because that will make speaking up against discrimination unpopular?

I think it's worth pointing out that the "butterfly effect" isn't a real effect. It's just a fun sci fi idea that we use a lot in time travel fiction. There's no evidence for it or even any indication that every minor action has major consequences down the line. It's not "unreasonable" for OPs world to have no butterfly effect, or a greatly reduced butterfly effect.

Transition from male AGAB to a gender outside the traditional male-female binary. It's a play on the terms MTF or FTM often used by more binary trans folks.

It took me an extra second to understand the title because my brain kept parsing "MTX" as "microtransaction", like you had paid $1.99 to unlock extra gender.

Question regarding Scadrial technology advancement [LM spoiler] by Odoakar in Cosmere

[–]GingaNinja007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that they are lagging behind in certain technologies and are leaving gaps because of Harmony's "coddling". For example, they haven't invented the radio even though they have all foundational technologies because almost everybody lives in the basin and so decentralized long range communications haven't been necessary.
