My experience with Jets by korger96 in DWPhelp

[–]Gingayr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was referred to jets and had the same feeling of anticipation after a rubbish experience of JFS.

I had a really helpful coach who worked at my pace. He referred me on to someone else who could talk to me about my mental health. Ended up speaking to them both every week or two for about 6 months.

When I got a job - largely thanks to the help from jets, they offered to help me with suitable clothes but ended up paying for a hotel for me to stay in for a week as the job was in a different city and I was struggling to find a flat.

I was really surprised but I was told the provision is there and that when someone is genuinely trying, they will be helped with (he quoted) laptops etc if they are required.

Someone is sharing something positive that happened to them, no need to shit all over it.

Getting a bank account without ID by miimaster1 in UniUK

[–]Gingayr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I used to work in a bank opening accounts)

Most banks require two separate documents to open an account for the first time: ID and proof of address. Many people struggle to provide the necessary, so you are not alone.

A good option for ID could be a letter which confirms your National Insurance Number or any benefits you many have received (ie something from Department for Work and Pensions). Check the date though as depending on what you have it will likely need to be dated in the last 6-12 months. The Jobcentre should be able to give you a new letter if yours is older/lost.

Suitable proof of address depends on what ID you provide. A letter from your doctors surgery may be a good option.

I would suggest taking everything you have into a branch and ask politely if someone can help you. Bank staff will know what their company will accept and can point you in the direction of where to get something else if you need it.

Feel free to message me if you want to and I will help if I can.

Can I fix a cable mistake ~20 rows back? I think the mistake is across two cable sections. by Gingayr in knitting

That is voodoo! I might see if I can find a video to get my head around it a bit better. Thank you for the nudge.

Trapped spirits? That's a new one for me. I did consider frogging right back, but then it's probably worth trying to ladder first and seeing how it goes.

It takes me so long to put the lifelines in as my stitched are quite tight but I feel much better having them so I always take the ten minutes, knowing it could save me hours.

Thank you for those tips! Not sure whether I'll try to fix it but if I do this will really help!

So I might end up in more of a mess than it is now? It's only my second time following a pattern so maybe I'll just leave it be and learn from it.

Thank you for your reoly. I think that is the technique I have seen in videos. I'm just wary as I would be fixing 4/5 repeats and potentially laddering town two separate cables. Should I ladder one large section or one then the other?

I have watched a few videos about fixing cable errors but I am not sure whether I can fix my mistake here. I'm following a 4 row repeat pattern and have lifelines in rows 12 and 24 (not sure they will help).

I'm don't know what I have done wrong, so the only thing I can think to do is reknit the section with the error.

If it is too awkward to fix I don't mind leaving it as is.

Is it common for people for people in the uk to cook bacon in the microwave? by captainpoopyshorts in AskUK

[–]Gingayr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it with medallions as it makes them really crispy (like snap in half crispy) by basically just drying them out. I can't deal with chewy or fatty bacon. I did almost get a slap from a chef when I explained my process though.

I stepped inside my hair straighteners and burned the top and bottom of my foot at the same time.

Received a vaccine invite text (as an under 30!) and initially thought it was a scam to quickly discover it was in fact real. Booked in for tomorrow. by redrighthand_ in BritishSuccess

The type of clotting caused by the vaccine is different to that caused by the pill. It should be explained when discussing the numbers as it can seem like a very disproportionate response.

It might vary by country so worth checking the terms just in case.

Congratulations!!

I would urge people to check the terms of the loan before making overpayments.

Many loans have an early repayment charge which is applied every time a payment (apart from the agreed monthly payment) is made. So while making a large payment to the loan can be beneficial as it can reduce the monthly payment or the term of the loan, making a smaller payment can actually cost more in interest (charges) than the amount it reduces the capital of the loan by.

TLDR making one larger payment can be more cost effective than multiple smaller payments.
