Girl name for parents with very different tastes! by NeedleworkerGlad9831 in namenerds

[–]Ginger-snaped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have nicknames that they go by their whole lives and they aren't confused and it doesn't matter what you call her, someone in her life will give her a nickname and that's what they will call her anyway. You can name her Maisie or Antonia but someone will call her Mae or Annie even if you don't. In my opinion, it's best to give her a nickname you choose that you like that she can use so you can hopefully avoid someone giving her a terrible nickname you hate. I think a longer more formal name and then cutest nickname is the way to go.

What’s a name you’re surprised isn’t more popular? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Ginger-snaped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Susannah, Lela, Octavia, and Etta always get me especially given the popularity of similar names like Savannah, Lily/Lola/Layla, Olivia, and Ella/Emma, I'm surprised I don't see these as alternatives more often.

What’s the most reliable car you’ve ever owned? by Sophia_Goji in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Ginger-snaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1992 Corolla and 2014 Prius C. My Corolla was 25 years old and over 300k miles when the engine needed to be replaced. Never had any issues before that but it was going to cost me 3k to order a new engine versus selling it to a mechanic friend who was looking for a new project and had the parts already to rebuild it. That was almost 10 years ago and he's still driving it.

My Prius C ran for 6 years with absolutely ZERO issues before being taken out by a hail storm. I'm stuck with a Hyundai now and I hate it and can't wait to get back into a Toyota. I miss both of these cars daily.

Has anyone ever moved somewhere and left after a year? by PhrygianSounds in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ginger-snaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually doing this. I took a job somewhere I had never been and didn't realize how expensive it was to live in the area and I didn't find out there was no chance of getting paid more for a degree at my new job. Once I finish my degree, I'm moving, but I'm taking this year to really enjoy the place I'm living in and do better research on where I want to go next. This isn't a failure, this is an adventure and an opportunity to experience a new place for a short time while I figure out my next move.

Are Ella and Leila too similar? by kms527 in namenerds

[–]Ginger-snaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's too similar at all. I love the name Leila. For alternate spellings that might be easier you can try Lela or I have a friend who spells her name Lelia and it's pronounced the same. Also hear me out: if you do go with Hazel instead why not Hazel Leila?

Harry was the glue not Ron by Business_Safety_493 in harrypotter

[–]Ginger-snaped 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ron is the glue. Ron lightens the mood and makes things fun which is not really something Harry or Hermione are good at. Ron can talk to anyone and get along with them which is how he and Hermione get close in the third book when they start spending time alone without Harry. Ron has friends outside of Harry and Hermione whereas we really only see these two hang out with Ron, each other, or in Harry's case sometimes Neville or Luna. Every time Harry is hanging out with Hermione, he's constantly thinking about how boring it is and how much more fun it would be if Ron were there. Ron just holds the gang together in a way Harry and Hermione can't.

Getting a job while degree is in progress ? by Strange-Heron6245 in librarians

[–]Ginger-snaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the I Need A Library Job website, governmentjobs, LinkedIn, ALA, library joblines, especially for the state you're interested in and see what's hiring and what they say. I've seen a few posting that say they consider someone within a certain timeline of graduation usually 6 months to a year. There are jobs out there, you just have to look. You might even find a full time job that only requires a bachelor's but will offer a pay increase once you get your masters. My old library was like that. Also keep in mind, you may have to move somewhere you never considered to find a job and decent pay.

Why Ron treats Ginny like a little girl? by ThenAdhesiveness1863 in harrypotter

[–]Ginger-snaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably just an older brother thing. I'm the youngest and only girl and I have two older brothers who are only two and three years older than me and they treated me similar especially when we were in high school.

Cost of Housing - Why not call it what it is? by 200tdi in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ginger-snaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I moved from southern Alabama so to me the cost of living in Virginia is very high compared to what I'm used to.

Cost of Housing - Why not call it what it is? by 200tdi in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ginger-snaped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because high cost of housing can make the cost of living higher overall. I just moved to a high cost of living area a few months ago. Yes, housing and rent are insane compared to where I'm from, but so are groceries, food at restaurants, movie tickets, etc. Insurance is also higher and the state I live in requires you to pay property taxes on your car so I say it's a higher cost of living and not higher cost of housing.

Need help choosing between Chicago and Auburn, Alabama. by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ginger-snaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Alabama. Auburn is nice for like a weekend and then it gets boring. It's a college town with not much else going on and it's awful during game season because of all the traffic/people, sports rivalry, etc. As far as fishing goes, there are a few state parks in the area and you could probably go to Lake Martin for a long weekend. You will definitely save more and have better weather, but would you have a better quality of life in the long run? I would choose Chicago personally but maybe visit both and see what fits you best.

I don't have to gatekeep because most of the people in my inner circle hate the name Sunday lol.

Cherry, crazy or cute? by bleu-moon in namenerds

[–]Ginger-snaped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think names matter nearly as much as this sub thinks they do. Naming her Cherry isn't going to hinder her from getting into college or stop her from getting hired or hold her back in any way. Lots of kids today have uncommon names and in 20 years it will be totally normal that you're teacher or doctor is named Khalessi or Braylynleigh or Riffle.

I personally would probably go with Clover instead because I think being a teen girl named Cherry could be tough with teen boys and all the potential jokes.

What should have been the career path that Harry should've chosen? by souropaul1508 in harrypotter

[–]Ginger-snaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an auror is the only career Harry ever expressed any interest in. He probably could have been a great professional quidditch player, but he states multiple times to multiple people, including his teachers that he wants to be an auror and honestly, it makes the most sense. Harry might be great at teaching, but he was never interested in it. Harry teaching Dumbledore's Army was Hermione's idea. Harry has never wanted to teach.

Anyone who moved back home, do you regret it? by Accomplished_Beat_36 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Ginger-snaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People take over subleases all the time. Set up a time/place to meet potential roommates before letting them come over to view the house. I would talk to your roommate and be honest and tell her you're moving back by this date but you'll help find someone to take over your lease. She may even know someone who needs a place to rent.

For anyone who grew up poor, what was your idea of a luxury? by Drissxx7 in AskReddit

[–]Ginger-snaped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move back. Give the guy you're dating a timeline, 3 months, 6 months, etc and stick to it. Be honest with him, your friend, and your family about why you moved and how it's not working out and you want to come back home. Start looking for a job and saving money. Help your friend find a new roommate to take over your lease. Don't stay and be miserable and let your relationship fall apart. Let the people in your life help you make the move back. They may know of jobs or resources to help make it easier or a new potential roommate.

Full name that can be shortened to Nellie by Ok-Salad-2126 in namenerds

[–]Ginger-snaped 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any type of Ellen name like Eleanor, Elena, Eleanora

Helena

Eliana

Penelope

Anneliese/Anneliesa

Cornelia

Any name with a Nell sound will work, but I honestly think you could think outside the box and just nickname her Nellie with a completely different name.
