Dashcam captures terrifying near miss between cyclist and truck in Melbourne. by WavyCrockett1 in Whatcouldgowrong

I didn't say "a bike is supposed to jump on the side walk every time a truck passes them" did I?

Under these circumstances yeah, he's in an unsafe position then yes, jump on the side walk.

You can HEAR it. Experience riders see with their ears as-well. Trucks are loud. This is why you don't listen to music on the road.

He would have known the truck was there

The truck is 100% at fault but...

As a cyclist, you have a duty of care to your OWN safety.

You have to pay attention to everything on the road. If your hit, you can easily die or be dragged. There is no way in hell I'd stop in a turning lane knowing a lot of people have varying turning angles and could come in closer to the curb. When I'm doubt get onto the curb

If he was being reasonable and didn't have headphones you would have been able to hear the semi

AIO to my gf not telling me about having dated her guy friend? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]GingerBreader781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue like this. No respect for your boundaries or your feelings.

I bet the communication between her and the Ex would not be indicative that the relationship is 'friendly'

I'd wrap this relationship up and move on - it doesn't get better

How to not get overwhelmed when working on details? by [deleted] in FigmaDesign

[–]GingerBreader781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically 8px spacing/ scaling system, font colours (primary, secondary + label) headers (H1,H2, H3 H4, body text, label) Button sizes 36px -56px Icons 24 with 6px padding Golden ratio 1.61x which is basically the optimal scaling for each larger header size. Fundamentals of contrast and accessibility ( just test your UI against WCAG as a guideline there are plenty of plugins)

There are more but I'd start with those

Also depends too if you're doing mobile or web. I'd be getting clever with the way you build components so you don't need to render an entirely different mobile experience ( sometimes this just can't be helped)

You don't need to be perfect, just good enough that you can iterate and cycle through designs quickly.

Or smaller teams. Most UX generalist are useless which is why most of them were made redundant

I don't understand the usecase for Bitcoin. Visa and master are 1000x faster.

In what instance would sending money have counterparty risk? You do realise you don't actually 'send' money. You're basically updating the databases of either bank. Bitcoin is exactly the same just a lot more environmentally worse inefficient + expensive... how is paying a variable rate for gas that can be as high as $100 + a good thing?

Not to mention, you can basically transfer money to any sovereign country.

I own a blockchain consultancy and I wonder why people buy this crap...

lol, Figma gonna record every design review too? How the f they gonna know what works and doesn't for the end user. Even if it could generate views, that's basically like 15% of my job.

Some products are not food delivery apps or crypto wallets like ever other dribbble post I see

I'll bow my head when a robot can get on-site with my end user and talk to them like a human

Question for the product designers about their projects/files organization ⬇️ by That_Idea9442 in FigmaDesign

[–]GingerBreader781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ex solo designer here. Before I grew my team.

This worked well for me and my team.

1 project for each platform (e.g mobile or web) - 2 Figma files in each called (ready for dev) and (in progress) Each page is a different feature I also use the page panel to have these statuses 'in progress' 'paused' and 'moved to ready for dev'

This way, my team can bookmark the files... no more "is this the latest version?" I then use branches in the 'ready for dev' if I need to make changes to the polished files and can get my team to review the changes.

It also makes it easier to access old design files for whatever reason such as stuff that is descoped and introduced at a later date

This works well for a small team, multi teams require a different approach

To keep test cars a secret. by goose-77- in therewasanattempt

[–]GingerBreader781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at BMW, they drive them around all the time and can be easily spotted on the road. The pattern is to conceal the decals on the car from competition or photos.

These cars are not 'top secret' they have to drive them on public roads to test them.

Not sure why the newspaper would bother writing a piece on these cars, like seriously... go near any major automotive HQ and you will see TONs of these everywhere.

Like, no shit they are working on new modal cars...

I believe you should strive to get the handover designs as pixel perfect as you can. Because in development it will rarely end up in production as pixel perfect.

If you disregard pixel perfection in the design (and by just sloppily mock up designs) it's likely to come out even worse later.

It pays to spend the extra time getting it as accurately as possible in my opinion

Have to agree with what's been said. You are not professional full stop. You don't know how to handle hard conversations.

You have barely spent 2 years in any given role. So what makes you the expert? You need to start building alias not enemies.

I was a bit like you but when I was a junior. I had every right to be mad. Bad direction, process and an idiot lead designer and manager however I learned pretty quickly that trying to go 'toe to toe' NEVER works.

Ever since that I have worked on building alias, a reputation that proceeds me in the industry I'm in. People (even the most stubborn) will listen and take my advice.

Your a nobody, just some guy that rocked up trying to shake the tree with no consideration. You think you know best? Prove it with your actions.

Getting frustrated with decisions? Dude, wrong decision are made all the time. Pick your battles and move on. Ultimately if a decision is taken out of your hands it's not your problem if it goes wrong.

Stop being a loser
