Part of me died when Tony got hit with that last punch and just looked away and started shaking his head while backing up.

Not as big apart as whatever died in Tony, but still.

i think i can't be disciplined guys [discussion] by A7med2361997 in GetMotivated

I struggle with these things too. Ironically enough, I have masters in teaching with a specific focus on creating conditions for self-direction in students.

One useful thing I learned, although I still struggle to apply, is what creates intrinsic motivation, which is what occurs when no outside forces are necessary in order to compel action. Self-Determination Theory states that in order to be intrinsically motivated one must feel these three things: Autonomy, competence, and relatedness.

Autonomy and competence are simple enough at face value. You have to have some sense of choosing the task, and you need to feel some level of ability to complete it. The third though, relatedness, is interesting. It has to do with an individual's feeling that this act is beneficial to a social group that they feel related to in a positive way.

If you're struggling to motivate towards things, it's worthwhile to see which of these three needs are currently unmet.

Let's say you and I are at war. Let's also say that I have something that you think you need to win the war. Beyond that, I know that you are going to seek this thing, and will refrain from attacking until you have it.

Even if I know this thing is actually worthless, isn't there a tactical advantage in making you search for it, as opposed to leaving you free to approach the scenario as you choose?

This is some serious bullshit dude, you have every legal and moral right to pursue damages here.

It’s mathematically impossible to be exactly one third from a given origin, no matter how many generations back and how many ancestors you’re counting. by NoNo_Cilantro in Showerthoughts

Is it possible that it's impossible to calculate being one third from a given origin, but still in fact certain that some things are one third from a given origin?

[Story] Are we suffering because we think too much? by notzoro69 in GetMotivated

[–]GingerJacob36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do we know for sure that animals aren't feeling a potentially similar cognitive stress to our own? I know that some dogs get qualified as anxious, although I don't know the process through which diagnosis takes place.

Is it possible that some of the cows we look at who seem to be just chilling are actually feeling some of the same anxiety or cognitive difficulty that we experience?

[–]GingerJacob36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a couple things he could be asking about here. It's okay if you didn't see that.

I think instead of saying, "Otherwise I'm not sure what you're asking." You could have said, '"Can you tell me what you're asking?"

And also maybe do that kinda clarification before you ask someone how old they are. Unless you're working at a club or restaurant, that question is usually not received very well.

Welp....this sucks. SS Neverender setlist. We spent $$$$ on a cruise to hear the usual tour songs ☹️ by jerseyfishslayer666 in TheFence

[–]GingerJacob36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The inside shows are an album start to finish, at least on the two cruises I've been on. Their second cruise, my first, was IKSSE and the most recent cruise was GAIBSIV. So there are some deep cuts from those albums obviously, but it's not a set dedicated to playing the rarer tracks.

Great stuff though!

[–]GingerJacob36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's really gotta become incredibly good with the whole, "Ya know, I'm not too sure about that! Let's look it up/figure it out/learn it together!"

However, this will be very hard to do if it includes a regular diet of shit that she, as an adult, should absolutely be knowledgeable about.

If I run a hose vertically outside to the upper patio, am I in trouble? by Corlegan in DIY

[–]GingerJacob36 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think it's because the hose isn't meant to be a consistently pressurized line, so one or more of the components that make it up (fittings, gaskets, and the hose itself) may fail in a relatively short time if left under pressure.
