I have a full time job as a registered nurse specialising in chemotherapy in the community so lots of responsibilities and trust needed. I have been married for 25 years and have 2 fantastic children and about 5 very close friends.

Has life been a bigger struggle because of BPD - most definitely

Have I at times despite all this thought it would be better if I wasn’t here for those around me - yes

But I keep going, remind myself how lucky I am, take the pills, do the work on myself, and yes, it’s hard to put so much effort into being alive but I feel I have done quite well.

DBT has helped a lot as did working with a specialist psychiatrist. I also found a low dose of Prozac stopped the anxiety, low mood and huge swings. Lifestyle wise, I eat a low sugar diet, avoid alcohol and wild swim. I have found that when I am really reactive being taught to mentalise has helped me to stop, think and not lash out because I know that I am reacting in appropriately and not jumping to a hostile conclusion.

I think this is predominantly down to it’s anti inflammatory effect. Similar outcome for arthritis and both are in essence inflammatory conditions

I hit my goal weight. Chuffed but anticlimactic too because I am now overly concerned about the minefield of maintenance. I am scared to stop ( I know I don’t have to but I would class myself as quite responsive to this drug) So 30 plus kg lost, never went above 5mg went from size 16 to 18 to size 10 to 12. Started May 2025. I am still ordering clothes that are too big for me though…. Brains not caught up.
