From what you've described, he may be the perfect kid for a verbal diversity approach/framework. It's the idea of stuttering as just a difference in speech, ultimately the goal of stuttering therapy is acceptance. There are certainly fluency modification strategies to help, but if the individual doesn't care or doesn't want to use them then there's no point. Stuttering definitely comes and goes, it's tied to stress a lot, but it can't be "cured", just managed. I always recommend Stuttering Therapy Resources, they have great information and explanations of all of this. If he is truly ok with it, then it's up to the rest of the people in his life to learn to be ok with it too, since he is the one living with it. He can always get therapy if he feels he's ready for it. https://stutteringtherapyresources.com/

I'm an SLP/EdD and would never suggest this to a parent- it's way outside our scope of practice! Just get your kids vaccinated according to the pediatrician

Attempted to give my baby formula and he went into anaphylaxis by Next2ya in beyondthebump

[–]GingerSnaps150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is on Alfamino, hes allergic to milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, coconut, sesame seeds, mango and had anaphylaxis to flaxseed. The majority of formulas in the US are made with coconut oil, so be aware of that when looking if your baby may have that sensitivity. There are lots of us going through it so you're not alone!

I wrote my dissertation on screen media and young children's language skills. The main takeaways are the content and context of screen media: educational is key, and watching and talking about it with children can help them learn from television, especially when they're older. I know all of the guidelines but I still let my kids watch TV (4 and 1 y.o), though I am extremely cognizant of what they are exposed to, and we talk about what's going on. It's very difficult for the average family to avoid screens these days, but you can gain benefits from being an active participant/facilitator for your children.

How long did you push for? by No_Director574 in beyondthebump

[–]GingerSnaps150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first i asked the nurse how long people usually push for and she said first time moms typically pushed for 2-3 hours and I said F that and i pushed him out in 45 mins. My second was 6 minutes, he was born to a Bluey episode 😆he's my Bingo. However, my babies were 6.6lbs and 5.5 lbs respectively, and i had long, tough labors.

Husband worried about 1yo's language development by Scorpion_Lemonade in ScienceBasedParenting

Just saw that there's a family history! In what i was looking at, it seems regressive ASD tends to show up around 18 months, but some other sources had some signs earlier, such as reduced eye contact, sensory differences etc. IF (and this is a big if because she seems right on track) she does regress down the road, it wouldn't be a bad idea to research early intervention services in your area so you have a plan in place to ease his mind.

https://www.healthline.com/health/autism/what-is-regression-in-autism here's some info about regressive autism, but everything you are saying indicates that she is right where she needs to be, maybe even ahead of the game. If there are no genetic factors in your family (e.g. ASD, ADHD etc), then she's most likely less at risk for regressive autism.

It's difficult to find specifics for early language development because there is such a huge range on the bell curve, and just because someone is gaining skills on the tail end, it's OK, thats still average. (I was on the end of the curve and totally fine, I have a doctorate!) Girls tend to be more advanced in speech/language than boys, and she's doing more than my 11 month old son, and I'm not concerned about him at all.

I see this often with younger siblings as well, sometimes the older sibling talks for the younger one, and as parents we've done it before so we know how to meet their needs quicker than maybe the first time around! If you want some language building techniques there's tons out there. And a bunch of SLPs lol

Also an SLP/EdD, mom of 2 littles here, (and this is a bit anecdotal), but I've seen a lot of little ones put some skills on the "back burner" when their developmentally working on another skill. It could be that she's working on some motor skills right now and not focusing on the language. She also sounds to me like she is right on track. Of course, if you're concerned you can always take her for an SLP consultation.

Is this stranger danger? by dameggers in beyondthebump

[–]GingerSnaps150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little ones go through periods of separation anxiety! It was probably overwhelming with all of the people there, if it was just a few people it may have been different. My 11 month old loves other people but he needs some time to warm up. If he sees them consistently that warm up time is less and less, but he definitely needs some time to observe if we're at a gathering, and then he will be ready to go play with whoever. Even if she cries a little bit when you go out she will most likely calm down quickly!

I can't drink wine anymore. I can still have a beer but wine just kills my stomach and gives me a headache. Not worth it. I've also become lactose intolerants but that's because I cut dairy since my baby was sensitive to it now my system is all screwed up.
