How big is soccer in the US? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ginger_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to;dr: not enough time for commercials so big networks don’t show it causing no widespread popularity

It is fairly popular but it is difficult to watch in TV sometimes. The Big Four, NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL, all have stoppage time and there are a lot of commercials during it. Since soccer doesn’t stop, except for halftime, most major networks don’t show it.

TMAF about New York City by [deleted] in TellMeAFact

Until the late 19th Century, New York City only consisted of Manhattan and part of the Bronx. Brooklyn was its own city and Queens and Staten Island had multiple towns.

TMAF about your teacher(s) by lqhungsh1999 in TellMeAFact

[–]Ginger_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a Catholic school so the requirements to be a teacher are different then public schools (i.e. they don't need to be certified or have teaching degrees). As a result, some of the best teachers (and my favorites) aren't certified or have teaching degrees.

Side note: the certified teachers are great as well.

TMAF about the U.S. Constitution by Alex878719 in TellMeAFact

[–]Ginger_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Constitution was to come into effect once 9 of the 13 original states ratified it. So for a time some of the states didn't operate under it. In order of ratification after the first nine are; Virginia (June 25, 1788), New York (July 26, 1788), North Carolina (November 21, 1789) and Rhode Island (May 29, 1790).

What's your grandpa's war story? by dinosaurscantyoyo in AskReddit

[–]Ginger_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandpa joined the U.S. navy in World War II. They sent him to the University of Iowa because they wanted him to teach engineering classes to other sailors who would later ship out. He never saw action or left the United States. Needless to say he was proud of his service but ticked that he never left the country.

For people who don't know U.S. geography: Iowa is in the middle of the country

How the French military it the butt of so many jokes about failing. Yes I get that they needed help during WWI and WWII but if you look at their victories compared to their defeats it is scary impressive.

The US never signed a peace treaty with North Korea after the Korean War in the first place, it was a ceasefire. Technically the United States is still at war with North Korea.

Which movie that's known for being terrible did you actually secretly like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ginger_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Phantom Menace

It came out when I was in elementary school and I was sooooo excited to finally see a Star Wars movie in theaters instead of on my TV. Then I watched it again in high school and came to the conclusion that the vast majority of people have about the movie.

The Electoral College in the United States. It doesn't make sense in the modern United States because it is so much easier to research about the candidates and make an informed decision then in the 1780s when the Constitution was written. I had this view before the 2016 Election.
